SUMMER TIME!

Things move a little slower. Not so many meetings. People on vacations. We can relax a little!

This is the June AND July Newsletter. We will send out a brief update in the beginning of July if needed

And, of course you will receive Covenant Connections each week.

A word about the new computer. It is great and will be even greater once we get used to it.

Thanks to all who contributed and especially to the jailbirds/lovebirds, Bob & Marjorie Borland.

Also many thanks to Brian Daniels for setting it up and saving us when things are confusing.

You will notice very few cute little pictures this time.I’m working on it!!

Erin VanGelder is helping out in the office during vacations and days off. Be nice to her.

Have a great summer but don’t forget to come to church!Remember – you may be out of cell phone range

but you are NEVER out of prayer range!!

See you in church!!

Grace & peace,

Office Staff

Worship Elders David Meyers & Carol Rich

For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them. (Matthew 18:20)

CHOIR CHATTER:   Heritage Day was excellent, and the choir members really enjoyed the reunion. I've heard from those who returned, and they all loved getting to see you and singing together again. We hope you enjoyed it too.

Now we're on to the next project!      We are working on music for our 20th Choir Tour! This year we will travel to Shallotte and will worship with Rev. John Causey and Shallotte Presbyterian Church. Tour will differ this year in that we will go after Labor Day in order to take advantage of the off-season rates at the motels in the area.

As usual, we will sing at a local skilled nursing facility and a local church. Choir Sunday here at Covenant will be on August 28th when you will hear the program which, this year, consists of favorite anthems selected by the choir from all the music done on past tours. (Look for other favorites on Sunday mornings – they will be marked “a tour favorite” in the bulletin.)

We're excited about this project and look forward to preparing it for Shallotte and you.

See you in church (or in choir if you can sing!)

CHILDREN AND YOUTH SUNDAY SCHOOL WILL RESUME SEPTEMBER 11TH. ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL CONTINUES THROUGHOUT THE SUMMER.

WOMEN’S BIBLE STUDY MEETS THROUGH JUNE. CHILDREN'S CHURCH

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU TO CAROLYN FLEMING!!!Miss Carolyn is no longer leading Children’s Church. So many youngsters have

benefited from her Children's Church leadership! They did crafts and learned Bible stories and that Jesus loves them. Another thing they learned was that Miss Carolyn loved them and they loved her right back!

In the meantime, Children's Church continues. We need volunteers to lead one or more Sundays this summer. EVERYTHING YOU NEED WILL BE PROVIDED! You won't have to make up lessons or crafts - it will be there for you. Sign up sheets are on the bulletin boards. Even choir members can sign up since Children's Church follows the anthem and you will be able to get back to the sanctuary in time for the benediction response.

Let's honor Carolyn by helping with this ministry that she loves so much. VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL

This year is St. Eugene's turn to lead VBS and they are trying something new. VBS will be Friday evening, July 15th, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Satur-day, July 16th from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This is only a few hours less than the traditional daytime schedule. If you can help with teaching, planning or other ar-eas, contact Linda Berry and she will let you know when meetings begin. Her email is [email protected]! MOVIES!

Come enjoy a movie in air conditioned comfort! No expensive refreshment stand fees! Beverages & hot popcorn provided!! Comfy chairs or your own snacks welcome.

June 11 at 6:00 p.m. we will see the new Star Wars movie! June 25th at 7:00 p.m. will be an adults-only movie: Spotlight – The award winning true story of how the Boston Globe uncovered the massive scandal of child molestation and cover-up within the local Catholic Archdiocese, shaking the entire Catholic Church to its core. Bridge of Spies is also in the works and is another adults only film.

CARVER ELEMENTARY SCHOOLBackpack Buddies:

The school year is nearly over but keep bringing in items for The Back Pack Buddy program. Suggestions for food items are listed on the bulletin boards, and the bin for contributions is in the narthex. If you hate to shop but want to help, gifts of money are welcome. Mark your check "Backpack Buddy" and place it in the offering plate. Focus for June – packets of oatmeal & small containers of applesauce.

Focus for July - canned soups and stews, pudding cups

Coming in August!“FEED THE FUTURE” August 14, 2016 @ 2:00 p.m. in Fellowship Hall

the Mission/Outreach Committee will sponsor a “bagging” event, where we will pack as many bags of food items as possible to help with the Back-Pack Buddies program at Carver Elementary School.

Look for sign-up sheets in the narthex, to volunteer to bringspecific food items, to help pack the bags, and to help with set-upand clean-up. Start saving your plastic grocery bags, because we will need lots of them!

If you can’t participate in person but would like to help with the project, monetary donations are always welcome. For moreinformation, contact Annette Kirk, Leta Thornton, or any member of the committee.

Matthew 25: 40 .”Inasmuch as ye have done it untoone of the least of these my children,

ye have done it unto me.”

FOOD PANTRY NEWSThe Wendell Council of Churches Food Pantry

feeds many hungry families in our community and is very grateful for our help.

Items always in demand are pasta & pasta sauces, dry beans & rice. Non food items are also needed: toilet paper, tissues, paper towels, soap, shampoo, tooth paste, as well as baby diapers, wipes, and feminine hygiene products.

We will get monthly updates from the Pantry to let us know what is most needed and highlight those items each month.

In June and July, let’s bring dry lemonade mix, crackers, hand sanitizer & bars of soap.

The donation bins are located in the narthex.

After a great year of activities including studying “The Bad Girls of the Bible”,

going out to eat, relaxing at a weekend retreat, Presbyterian Women are taking a little time off.

Meetings will resume in the Fall on the fourth Tuesday of the month.

Mark your calendars and be thinking ahead to the Annual Dinner and silent auction on November 5th.

Rebates to Covenant range from a mere 1% to 16%. (Restaurant.com gives 50%!) You can go on a cruise, get your hair cut, fill up your tank, fly away, see a movie - all using gift cards ordered through Covenant! And as you do, your church receives a percent!

VOLUNTEER UPDATE Thank you to our Volunteers who serve so faithfully every week. And a special thank you to some new faces!New greeters are Paula & Brian Daniels and Carol Rich.Amy Stevens is home from college and will be helping out with audio.

We could use some additional help! Children’s Sermon: There are two big folders in the

copy room with materials & ideas. Right now we have five volunteers which means your turn would be less than once a month.

Ushers: Right now we have five teams but two of those teams are short a member. Women & teenagers welcome! Duties: Hand out bulletins before theservice, sit in the back of the sanctuary to assistif anyone needs to enter or exit during the service

and collect the offering.Audio: This is the hardest job! You have to be able to

climb the spiral stairs to the audio room. Once there, I am told it is easy to learn the system. And, you get to look down on everyone else!

If you have an interest in other areas, you are most welcome!
