“The topic of today is very basic for any MaterialsManagement professionals.

Inventory for a production man is the stock neededfor production.

For a Finance guy it is a current asset.

Marketing guy would need inventory of all items atall the time.

For a cost accountant it is inventory carrying cost.

Top management would want JIT inventory to havezero inventory holding cost.

However, Customer demand changes frequently.Customer expects prompt and immediate supply andservices.

You may control your breath through yoga but to makeoptimum control over thousands and millions of itemsis a very challenging, dynamic and complex problem.

We have today with us Mr. Jayanta Chakraborty to helpus understand the basics and provide us some tools andtechniques to rationalize the inventory using time testedmethods. Mr. Chakraborty is a Mechanical Engineer withGraduate Diploma in Materials Management fromIIMM.

EXECUTIVE HEALTHWE BORN TO WALK LET’S ENLIGHTEN OUR OWN HEALTH BY WALKING

DR. K.M. ANNAMALAI, M.P.T. (CARDIO-RESPI)DIRECTOR - ALLIANCE PHYSIOSOLUTIONS

[email protected]

A few main reasons why I’m so fond of explaining aboutwalking, also known as moving frequently at a slowpace. First, it’s all-inclusive. Absent debilitating injuryor infirmity, everyone can walk. No excuses (unless youhave one).Second, the necessary equipment is rightdown there. See those bizarre appendages underneathyou? That’s what you walk with. See that horizontalsurface stretching into the horizon? That’s what you walkon.Third, it’s the foundation for good health and makeslife better. It’s this last point that brings me to the meatof today’s post: all the ways in which walking enhancesour life.

Let’s go: It keeps your buttocks engaged with the world.

A wise man once said that excessive sitting causesbuttocks inactivation and weakness. This is true, but it’snot like simply standing is enough to keep them strongand engaged. You have to walk, and walk often. To makesure the way you walk is actually activating your butt, place your hands on each glute. You should feel yourbutt tense up a bit with each footfall as it accepts theload, and that same glute should tense up even morewhen you push off to take another step so that yourhand gets a little “pushback.”, making sure each glute isworking

It modestly reduces body fat. : Frequent walking willhelp anyone with two functioning legs and hip and kneejoints, spine and arm swing that allow movement whowould otherwise meld into the couch lose some bodyfat. That’s pretty cool, I think.

It improves glycemic control, especially after meals. :Just 15 minutes of walking after eating improved theblood glucose control in older people with poor glucosetolerance. Try to keep the walk as close to the meal aspossible to aid in weight loss.

It improves triglyceride levels and lowers bloodpressure, especially after meals.

Whether short (ten 3-minute bouts of brisk walking) orlonger (one 30-minute bout of brisk walking), brisklywalking after a meal lowers postprandial bloodpressure and triglyceride levels.

It’s well tolerated by people with arthritis (and couldeven improve their condition). : Arthritis patients haveit tough on the exercise front. They won’t get any betteravoiding exercise, but exercise tends to hurt. What todo? Walk. Walking is gentle, particularly if you performit with proper form. And one study even found thatwalking (and weight lifting) improves balance in olderadults with osteoarthritis.

It’s good for your brain. : Walking does much more thanwork the area underneath your neck. It also hasextensive cognitive benefits, improving memory inseniors, cognitive control and academic performance inpreadolescents , boosting creativity in the young andhealthy. The farther an older person can walk in sixminutes, the better he or she performs on memory andlogic tests; folks who perform poorly on the walking testtend to have reduced grey matter volume in certainsections of their brains.

It reduces stress.: What do I do when I need to get awayfrom a particularly stressful day in “civilization”? Go fora walk, preferably in a natural setting. For me, it mightbe the woods or even a park. Sure enough, going for awalk in the woods is a surefire way to lower cortisol.

It boosts immune function.: Several lines of evidencepoint to the benefits of walking on the immune system.First, a “mere” 30 minute walk increases killer T-cells and other markers of immune function. Second, among free-living Japanese elderly, higher daily stepcounts correlate with improved mucosal immunity. Finally, among postmenopausal women involved in a
