A Message from the CEO

Keith HenryAtBC, Chief Executive Officer

The Aboriginal Tourism Association of British Columbia (AtBC) continues to be a world leader

in the development of authentic Aboriginal cultural tourism. Together, AtBC, our stakeholders,

and Aboriginal communities throughout British Columbia have continued to demonstrate the

collective ability to work together and produce significant growth in Aboriginal cultural tourism

which benefits the entire tourism industry.

Over the course of the next few days stakeholders and partners will review the achievements

made by the AtBC board and management from this past fiscal year (April 1st, 2012 – March

31st, 2013) as well as receive updates and discussions regarding important current items and

industry initiatives. The AtBC team has continued to implement The Next Phase 2012 – 2017,

which was a Stakeholder designed road map from 2012 – 2017. The objectives of this plan have

been clear; support increased revenues for Aboriginal tourism business from approximately

$42 million in 2012 to $68 million by 2017, create 4000 jobs in tourism by 2017, and have no

less than 100 market ready Aboriginal tourism businesses in British Columbia by 2017. AtBC

continues to push forward on six key areas to support these broad objectives for the Aboriginal

cultural tourism industry in British Columbia.

AtBC continues to reach targets and the organization is achieving strong stability. Funding

partners continue to ensure support and AtBC continues to increase our international profile as

a world leader in the development and marketing of authentic Aboriginal cultural tourism.

AtBC acknowledges our Stakeholders, numerous partners, and Aboriginal leaders who continue

to recognize the tremendous opportunity. The Aboriginal cultural tourism sector provides for

employment, cultural revitalization, and economic benefits for communities and entrepreneurs.

AtBC looks forward to hearing your ideas and input as we collectively promote and develop

Aboriginal tourism in British Columbia.

Thank you,

About AtBC

Get Involved!

Become a Marketing Stakeholder Become an Associate Stakeholder

Aboriginal tourism is the fastest growing sector of the tourism industry in British Columbia.

Exposure during the 2010 winter games was phenomenal and AtBC has worked to capitalize on

the afterglow of the games. It is an exciting time to be a part of the Aboriginal tourism industry

in British Columbia. We hope you’ll join with us and become an AtBC Stakeholder.

The Aboriginal Tourism Association of British Columbia (AtBC) is a non-profit, Stakeholder-

based organization that is committed to growing and promoting a sustainable, culturally rich

Aboriginal tourism industry.

A sustainable Aboriginal tourism sector with diverse products in communities in every region of

the province is recognized as one of the major focuses for achieving the target set by the Premier

to double tourism revenues in B.C. by 2015.

Through training, information resources, networking opportunities and co-operative marketing

programs, AtBC is a one-stop resource for Aboriginal entrepreneurs and communities in British

Columbia who are operating or looking to start a tourism business. AtBC works closely with

tourism, business, education and government organizations to help B.C.‘s Aboriginal tourism

businesses offer quality experiences and actively promotes these cultural experiences to visitors

and local residents.

If you or your organization are providing an

Aboriginal cultural tourism service directly to

the public and want to participate in AtBC’s

marketing programs, then you should apply to

become a Marketing Stakeholder. Marketing

Stakeholders are subject to additional eligibility

requirements to ensure a high standard of

professionalism and authenticity.

Learn More at AboriginalBC.com/corporate/info/become-a-stakeholder

If you or your organization are involved in

Aboriginal tourism within BC or have an interest

in supporting Aboriginal tourism in BC, then you

are probably eligible to become an Associate

Stakeholder with AtBC. Associate Stakeholder

status is the right choice for artists, performers,

craftspeople, industry partners and community

organizations, or for businesses that don’t meet

all the eligibility requirements of Marketing

Stakeholders.
