18 LAST DAY FOR STUDENTS
JANUARY 2014
29 Students return
of our school and often the
contribution they have made over the
years.
As mentioned at the infants
presentation assembly we will also be
saying goodbye to Mrs Bowen and
Mrs Blackmore this year as both ladies
will be retiring. The contribution to
children over their combined 74 years
of teaching is hard to fully appreciate
and measure, with the experience
and professional approach displayed
by both ladies being something that
we have relied on for many years. We
wish the ladies the very best in their
retirement and hope to see them
both back at the school as often as
possible.
Lastly I would like to wish the entire
Cowra Public School community the
very best wishes over the Christmas
period. I hope you have a very safe
and enjoyable New Year and holiday
break with your families.
School will recommence on the
Wednesday, 29 January 2014 and we
look forward to seeing everyone back
for another exciting year.
Regards
Brad Tom

dancing and a formal presentation at
8pm and the evening concludes at
8.30pm. Year 6 have been looking forward
to this evening for a long time with lots of
practise in the department of dance.
The next event is the street market which is
being held on Friday night. The P&C will be
holding a stall and we invite everyone to
come along and participate in the
evening.
On Friday, 13 December, the school will
be operating with limited staff between the
hours of 8.30 and 11.30am. Long time staff
member Mrs Deborah Cobcroft lost her
husband John who passed away on
Saturday 7 December after a battle with
cancer. 90% of the staff will be attending
the service on Friday starting at 10am and
we will only be operating with minimal
supervision. No regular lessons will occur
during the morning period. Although the
school will be open during this time it
would be greatly appreciated if parents
could assist on the day by retaining their
children at home (if possible) until
11.30am.
Next week the students will be
participating in a host of activities to
celebrate the end of a very successful
year. Activities will range from class
parties, excursions, to the annual Year 6
v’s the teachers softball game.
On Wednesday, 18 December Year 6 will
also have their farewell ceremony starting
at 2.30pm in the auditorium. Parents are
welcome to attend and be part of the
final farewell of Year 6. With this farewell
we also say a very sad goodbye to many
long term families whose children have all
gone through Cowra Public School. We
say a very fond farewell to these families
and thank them for their ongoing support
Dear Parents
What a wonderful week. Our
presentations went exceptionally well
with a fantastic parent turnout to
commend the award winners at both the
junior and senior assemblies. It was lovely
to see the faces of the children who
received awards and their surprise in
being recognised for their efforts. I was
very pleased with the response of the
attendance gifts and we look forward to
again promoting strong attendance
across the school in 2014.
This week the children have been
involved in several activities including
assemblies, Christmas craft, excursions in
Stage 2 and sport. The classes have also
been working hard at regular lessons with
Christmas themes to celebrate the
season.
Tomorrow the school will be running the
last Adventure Group of the year and in
total we have had 76 students in the
groups this year. These activities are
something that all children in Stages 2/3
have had the opportunity to be involved
with and is a highlight of the year for
many involved. I would like to thank Mrs
Kelly for assisting during the year with
these excursions. To date the children
have mountain climbed, climbed
waterfalls, gold panned, bush walked,
swam, gone caving and had a great
time. The school is also looking forward to
two special events in the next few days
including the Year 6 social on Thursday
evening. Students are to arrive at 6.30 at
the auditorium. There will be bush

PREMIER’S SPORTING CHALLENGE
All of our students K-6 participated in the Premier’s
Sporting Challenge this year during Term 3. This is a
program initiated by the State Government and is
designed to encourage greater levels of activity in
children and to raise awareness of the benefits of
exercise in our community.
The program also provides $1000.00 to support physical
activity at Cowra Public School through the
maintenance of our sporting equipment and the
purchase of new resources.
All students who were at the school during Term 3
received their certificates this week. Congratulations
and well done CPS.
HOW DOES OUR GARDEN
GROW?
Very well! Despite the unreliable weather our gardens
are blooming and the garden club is working hard to
keep our plants healthy. We would like to thank Mr Nigel
Hazell for his generous donation of mulch for both
gardens.

burning meat!), grandparents or carers who would like to
help out on this night, please contact Rob Webster. We will
need assistance probably from 5pm to 8pm, in cooking
