YOU ARE INVITED….
This Friday 2nd March at
10.30am Stage 1, accompanied
by Miss Gorham and Mr
Murray, will be performing at
the Neighbourhood Centre.
Parents and community
members are invited to come
and watch and enjoy morning
tea.
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
Congratulations to our amazing CPS swimmers who competed at the PSSA
District Swimming Carnival last Friday in Boorowa! Miss Dunk and Mr Riches
were very excited to report on how well everyone swam and how many
personal best times were recorded. Special congratulations to Samson
Miller, who was named 11 Years Boy Champion and to Zoe McKay who
was the Junior Girls Champion! The 14 CPS students selected in the District
team will now compete at the Western Region Swimming Carnival in
Dubbo on Friday 16th March. Good luck to all students involved!
At last Friday’s whole school assembly our 2018 Student Representative
Council members (SRC) and Library Monitors were announced and
presented with their badges! It is wonderful to see so many students putting
their hand up to take on a leadership role within our school.
Congratulations also to our “Aussies of the Month” for February – Lawson
Wood (Infants) and Braith Amos (Primary). Both Lawson and Braith
demonstrate excellent behaviour, application and effort across all areas
of their schooling and are terrific role models within our school.
On Wednesday after school, staff participated in a 3 hour professional
learning session which focused on “Trauma Training”. This was presented
by Cathy Matthews from Western Area Health and focussed on the impact
that complex trauma can have on a student’s wellbeing and their ability
to engage in learning. In addition to this, teachers also looked at our 2018-
2020 school plan and devised a series of ‘milestones’ to ensure we stay on
track with our focus areas of improvement throughout the year. I would
like to thank the staff for their time, dedication and professionalism as we
continue to work hard to improve learning outcomes for all of our students.
Tomorrow we will be participating in the annual “Clean Up Australia Day”
program. Stage 1 and 2 will be focusing their clean-up efforts around the
school, whilst Stage 3 will head down to River Park after lunch and clean
up around the playing fields. All students will be supplied with plastic gloves
and staff will be closely supervising the clean-up effort. It is fantastic to see
our kids looking after our local environment!
Tomorrow we also welcome Jay Allen, guest speaker from the Melanoma
Institute of Australia, who will be presenting a half hour talk on Sun Safety
to the Infants and primary groups. At CPS we constantly reinforce our Sun
Safety policy and ensure that all students and staff wear a hat whenever
they are outside in the playground. Students who forget to bring their hat
to school are requested to play in the shaded areas only. We appreciate
all parents’ support of our “No Hat Play in the Shade” rule as we work
together to keep all of our children safe.
Have a great week….

CPS Wellbeing Wrap
Welcome to the first edition of “CPS Wellbeing Wrap”. I hope that everyone is enjoying their first few weeks of school and that
everything is beginning to settle down. My role at CPS this year, is a new and exciting position that I am really looking forward
to. Already I am finding the challenge of being out of the classroom a little unusual. I do get to have my fix of face to face
teaching though, as I still teach Wiradjuri Language classes with Aunty Esther Cutmore every Tuesday. I’m also spending a lot of
time with the Infants classes and I am really enjoying getting to know all our beautiful Kindergarten kids.
As this is my first ever “CPS Wellbeing Wrap”, I will briefly explain some of the happenings at CPS;
PBL Acknowledgement
We are currently in the process of up-dating our PBL Acknowledgement activities. In the next week or so you will see a number
of different sized stars on the back wall inside the auditorium. Each star will be allocated a certain “Acknowledgement” and
when a star is completely covered by spots then that “Acknowledgment” will be achieved. This will give our students a stronger
visual on where we are and how far we have to go in order to achieve our next “Acknowledgement”. The PBL team, in
consultation with SRC students, will determine appropriate “Acknowledgement” activities and these activities will be displayed
above each star. The spots will be replacing our current “ticket” system.
Cowra Information and Neighbourhood Centre
Cowra Public will be continuing our close association with the wonderful people of CINC and the Cowra community by
showcasing our fantastic and talented students. Every second Friday at 10:30am, a different class from CPS will present a special
performance at the CINC. The performance will be followed by a lovely morning tea (free) and friendly chat with staff and
community members. Parents are most welcome to attend and are also invited to share in the morning tea. Staff at CINC will be
in attendance and will be available to talk to parents. This Friday 2nd March, Miss Catherine Gorham and Dyirridyirri 1G will be
putting on a fantastic song all about bushrangers.
Personalised Learning Pathways and Learning Support Plans
A huge thank you to parents and carers that gave up their time to attend our PLP and LSP meetings. The teachers of your
children really appreciate your continued support and we hope that you gained a lot of insight into child’s learning needs and
ways that you can help at home. If you were unable to attend your PLP or LSP meeting and you received a letter from your
child’s teacher requesting a meeting, I strongly encourage you to make an appointment, as soon as possible. To make an
appointment ring CPS on 63422400 and ask our lovely office ladies to put you through to me.
New Enrolment Morning Tea
It was exciting to see all our new students, their friends and our new parents enjoy a delicious morning tea last Thursday. We
really appreciate you giving up your time to join us and get to know other new members of our school community. The quiz was
a popular activity with great debate regarding which teacher was voted most popular. A huge thank you to Mrs Long and Mrs
Meiklejohn for organising invitations and the yummy tucker.
Forensic Science Workshop
Don’t forget that our Forensic Science Workshop will be held on Thursday 29th March for all our Primary students. The workshop
is designed to encourage a love of science and show students how science plays an important role in the real world beyond the
classroom. Students get to examine crime scene and analyse evidence including impressions, fingerprints, DNA, animal tracks,
scatology and uncover hidden clues. This sounds like a fantastic opportunity for our students to experience something totally
new to Cowra Public. We thank the Cowra PS P&C for funding this workshop so that all of our Primary students can attend free
of charge.
So that’s the end of my “CPS Wellbeing Wrap” and I hope that the information provided gives you a little bit of an insight to
some of our programs and activities on offer this term. If you are experiencing any problems or would like to chat about
anything that may be impacting your child’s wellbeing then please give me a call on 63422400
Cheers
