    QAI GLOBAL INSTITUTE

The Software Certifications Program is Proudly Administered by the QAI Global Institute.

The Certied Quantitative Software Process Engineer (CQSPE) certication aims at developinprofessionals who have gained the requisite knowledge & skills to help dene & implementan organizations measurement program using Quantitative Software Process Management(QSPM) techniques.

An organization needs to consistently control and improve its processes to deliver productsthat meet customer requirements and remain competitive. QSPM is a framework that integrat

the concept of measurement with software process management. QSPM provides an approach through which objective insighinto an organizations goals and the capability of its processes can be determined.

The QAI Global Institute, formerly QAI Worldwide, was established in 1980 as a professional association formed

to represent the software quality assurance industry. The rst certication began development in 1985 and the rsformal examination process was launched in 1990. Today, Software Certications, administered by QAI Global Institute, has a multinational reach. Sits inception, Software Certications has certied over 35,000 IT professionals in 43 countries on 6 of the 7 continents in the world.

CQSPE certication demonstrates that the certied individual has the knowledge to:

Realize the signicance of managing a process quantitatively

    Formulate a measurement action plan

Apply techniques to collect, verify, and organize the process data

Apply statistical tools to organize, analyze, and interpret process data Analyze and control the performance of a process

Initiate and sustain process improvement activities

A distinguishing mark of a profession is the acceptance of responsibility by its members to the interests of those it serThose certied must maintain high standards of conduct in order to effectively discharge their responsibility. An applicant for certication must subscrto the Software Certications Code of Ethics that outlines the ethical behaviors expected of all certied professionals. Software Certications programinclude processes and procedures for monitoring certicant adherence to these policies. Failure to adhere to the requirements of this code is grounddecertication.

In 2008, Software Certications selected Prometric, a world leader in assessment testing services, as its partner for theadministration of certication examinations. Prometrics international network of testing centers provides the framework

needed to support Software Certications global needs. This partnering will allow candidates to easily schedule their exam via the Internet and take it aa Prometric Testing Center in or outside of the United States. However, some global locations will remain paper-based (Sponsored Exams) and delivereon a quarterly basis please refer to the Software Certications web site for specic location details.

NOTE: All candidates must rst register to take the certication examination through the Software Certications Customer Portal (www.

The two hour examination tests the candidates knowledge and practice of the skill areas dened in the Principleand Concepts and Recommended Reading sections of this brochure. Candidates must attempt the exam at least once in the rst twelve months afteapplying. Those who do not successfully pass the examination may retake the examination up to two times by submitting the on-line retake applicationand paying all required fees. Quantitative Software Process Management (QSPM) is an approach that integrates the concept of measurement with process management.

This approach provides an organization with an objective insight into its goals and the capability of its processes. This facilitates the identication

of gaps between the actual and desired output from the process. QSPM enables an organization to measure the capability of a process and

use the process data to set realistic performance goals. In addition, it helps to analyze the consistency in process performance and predict the

expected output of the process within a given range.

The principles and concepts that are covered by the CQSPE examination are:

The signicance of managing a process quantitatively.

Formulation of a measurement action plan for the quantitative management of critical organizational processes.

Collection, verication, and organization of the process data corresponding to critical organizational processes.Selection and use of an appropriate statistical tool to organize, analyze, and interpret process data.

Methods to analyze and control of the performance of a process and sustain the controlled state of the process.

Initiation and maintenance activities for improving critical organizational processes.

The principles and concepts that are covered by the CQSPE examination are reviewed in the following eLearning course available at

The Software Certications Board strives to maintain the highest degreeof integrity within Software Certications. To maintain this integrity, acerticant must maintain a current knowledge base of quality principles, practices, and technical knowledge as the information technologyindustry advances and technologies become obsolete. By requiring thatthe certicant maintain and increase their level of competency throughvarious avenues of education and activity, the board is assured that thecertication standards of integrity are being met and the value of the

    certication designation is being maintained.

To assure that the certicant is maintaining knowledge and skills that arestate-of-the-art in the eld, the certicant must demonstrate continuingprofessional education (CPE) activities. This may be done by:

Submitting a Recertication Journal of qualied ContinuingProfessional Education activities

    or

Taking an Examination for Recertication to demonstrate yourcompetence and skill in the certication competency domains.
