People often claim that one of every three large-scale software systems gets canceled mid project. Of those that do make it out the door, three-quarters are never implemented: Some do not work as intended; others are just shelved.
Why you can’t understand your computer
Something unique to software, especially new software: no experts exist in the sense that we might speak of an expert machinist, a master electrician, or an experienced civil engineer. There are only those who are relatively less ignorant.
