TheCustomerTechnicalEducationCenter(CTEC),locatedjustoutsideCincinnati,Ohio,providestechnicaltrainingtocustomermechanics,powerplantengineers,GEemployeesandotherrepresentativesonadailybasistohelpensurefleetreliability.Morethan4,000customerstudentspassthroughthedoorsofCTECeachyear.
CTECemploysastaffofworld-classenginetrainingexpertswhodelivernotonlytechnicaltraining,butalsoreal-worldapplicationinstructionsforeachoftheGEandCFMengineprograms.
CTECalsoprovidesregularcustomertoursofthetrainingfacilityaspartofitssupportforcustomers.Inaddition,monthly“VoiceoftheCustomer”lunchesareheldtobetterunderstandcustomertrainingandtechnicalneeds.
On-siteclassesarealsoavailabletocustomerswhodesireaprivatecourseforalargenumberoftheirmechanics.
AEMTC
TheAeroEngineMaintenanceTrainingCenter(AEMTC)—acooperativetraininginstitutecomprisedofChinesepartners,Snecma,CFMInternational,andGEAviation—specializesinmaintenancetrainingforGEandCFMcommercialaircraftengines.
Since1996,thecenterhastrainedmorethan6,000studentsfromairlinesthroughoutAsia.LocatedonthecampusoftheCivilAviationFlightUniversityofChina(CAFUC),AEMTCisatwo-storybuildingcontainingsixclassroomsandashopwithsixtrainingengines.TherearefourinstructorswhoconducttrainingclassesforCFM56-3,CFM56-5B,CFM56-7B,andCF6-80C2linemaintenance,borescopeinspectionandadvancedenginesystems.
AEMTCkeepsclosetieswiththeCFMtrainingfacilitiesatGEAviation(CTEC)andSnecma(CTC)bysharingthesametrainingmaterials,qualitycontrolmeasurementsandinstructorbestpractices.AEMTCalsokeepsclosecontactwiththeGE/CFMFieldServiceteaminChinainordertotailorspecialtrainingandseminarstoanairline’srequirements.

TheGEAdvancedTechnology&ResearchCenter(GEATRC)islocatedinDoha,Qatar,intheMiddleEast.ThisGEAviationtechnicalcustomertrainingfacilityispartoftheQatarScience&TechnologyParkwithinEducationCity.
The13,400-square-meter(144,238-square-foot)facilityincludessixdigitalclassrooms,aswellas14engine/toolingbaysforthe“hands-on”portionofthetechnicallearningofferings.Inaddition,GEOil&Gas,GEHealthcareandtheGEGlobalResearchCenterwillbelocatedwithinthefacility.
Thefacilityopenedin2010andfeaturesafullassortmentoftrainingonvariousenginemodels.PopularclassofferingssuchasLineMaintenance,Borescope,EngineChangeandModuleAssembly&Disassemblywillbeavailabletoqualifiedcustomers.

Level I General FamiliarizationPersonnelmustbefamiliarwithcurrentequipmentandhaveageneralknowledgeofturbine-poweredtransportaircraft.LevelIprovidesabriefoverviewoftheairframe,systems,andpowerplantasoutlinedintheSystemsDescriptionSectionoftheAircraftMaintenanceManual.
Level II Ramp and TransitPersonnelmustbefamiliarwithturbine-poweredtransportaircraft,digitalelectronicequipment,andhaveexperienceinramp,transitandturnaroundactivity.LevelIIprovidesabasicsystemoverview—adescriptionofcontrols,indicators,andprincipalcomponents,includingtheirlocationsandpracticaltrainingonservicingandminortroubleshooting.
Level III Line and Base Maintenance TrainingInadditiontorequirementsforlevelsIandII,personnelattendinglevelIIItrainingshouldpossesstheknowledgeandexperiencerequiredtomaintainturbine-poweredtransportaircraft.LevelIIIprovidesadetaileddescription,operation,componentlocation,removal/installation,BITEandtroubleshootingprocedurestomaintenancemanuallevel.
Level IV Specialized TrainingPersonnelmusthaveconsiderableexperienceinthefieldinwhichtrainingwillbereceived.LevelIVprovidesadetaileddescription,componentlocation,in-depthtroubleshooting,adjustment,testprocedures,rigging,enginerun-up,in-depthuseofwiringdiagrams,schematicsandengineeringdata.Entrylevelisdefinedbysubjectmatter.
Level V Component Overhaul TrainingPersonnelmustmeetprerequisitesestablishedbythevendor.Specializedmaintenance/overhaultrainingisconductedbyairframe/engine/avionicsmanufacturersand/ortheirsuppliersand/orairlinestoacomponentmaintenancemanuallevel.Entrylevelisdefinedbysubjectmatter.

e-Learning/Digital Training CourseEFAMTheseelectronicfamiliarizationcourses(e-Fam)provideclassroomcontentonenginearchitectureandsystemsviatheWeborCD.ThisenablesGEtoprovidegenuineOEMtrainingtoeligiblecustomerswhodon’thavetheopportunitytocometoourTrainingCenters.Formostproductlines,thesecoursesarenowprerequisitesforanysubsequenttrainingattrainingcenters.
DIGITAL TRAINING AIDS (DTAs)DigitalTrainingAidsaredesignedtoprovidethemechanicwithinformationaboutspecificmaintenanceproceduresthathavebeenlinkedtocriticalerrors.Thisinteractivelearningallowstheusertoviewproceduresstep-by-steporasacontinuousvideo.Thecautionssurroundingcriticalstepsarehighlightedandsummarizedandtheuseristestedonthesecriticalstepsuponcompletion.

Ourprimarytrainingmissionistoprovideclassroomandhands-oninstructiontoairlinecustomerswhoownandoperateGEAviationandCFMproducts.CustomersmusthaveaGeneralTermsAgreement(GTA)orotherservicesupportcontractsallowingthemtobeeligibletoattendtrainingcourses.
TheGTAorothersupportagreementswillspecifyifacustomeriseligibletoreceiveidentifiedtrainingatnocostand,ifso,assignanumberoftrainingcredits.Thesecreditsareusuallyinunitsofstudentdaysandaredeductedbasedonthelengthofthecourseandnumberofstudentsattending.Forexample,twostudentsattendingafive-daycoursewoulddeduct10student-daycreditsfromthecustomer’strainingentitlements.
Customerswhohaveusedalltheirtrainingentitlements,orthosewhosecontractallowsforreceiptoftrainingbutdoesnotprovidetrainingcredits,maypurchasecoursesatthecurrenttrainingrate.
