Curicosa

The Lost Colony

For a long time, the only inhabitants on the

planet were the native indigenous population and

the ancient remnant of a lost imperial founding.

Sometime during the early settlement of the

sector, Aelys was discovered and populated with

a small colonial fleet. The planet had a population

surge, following the establishment of several

mining communities, including the capital Halon.

Giant water-pipes were constructed to supply the

growing towns and cities, and took years to

finish.

Although the planet was covered with snow,

it hos ted many festivals in reverence to the

Emperor and the prime manifest doctrines of the

Imperium. When other, more fortuitous worlds

were terra-formed focus on Curicosa dwindled

until it was all but forgotten by the sector lords

and the Imperium greater.

Since the decline the population of Curicosa

has spli t deeply between the two factions - those

who adhere to the Imperial Creed and those who

have abandoned it in favor of local traditions.

Curicosan Culture

Curicosa culture within Halon has become

bastardized after the long centuries of abandonment by the Imperium. Few vessels ever

stop at the world since it has li ttle to offer the void

plyer. It's harsh climate and temperamental

weather storms disallow expansion without

intensive Mechanicus presence.

Outside, the scattered people of Halon

devolved into localized tribes as they were

absorbed by the indigenous natives. Pagan rites

mixed with Imperial trappings and created what is

now a highly unorthodox mixed bag of beliefs and

traditions. Some tribes range from simply

debased yet still acceptable behavior while

others have become far too corrupt and heretical.Because they have little power and almost no

access to more than basic technology, no sector

power has seen fit to take action against these

tribes other than the determined missionary that

arrives on occasion.

A world of Secrets

Curicosa is more than just a world covered in ice

and snow - it is a world that has had many epochal

ages buried in it. The world was settled long before

the great crusades. What secrets the original settlers

kept with them have been long buried beneath layers

of ice, rock, and more ice. Ancient bunkers and

buildings have been discovered during mining and

tantalizing, if not useful, artifacts have been reclaimed

over the ages .

Twice since the first proper Imperial colonization

have two truly great relics been uncovered - both

having been claimed and taken off world by proper

Imperial Adepta. Neither discovery has been

publicized, but both have caused the powers to be to

keep an open eye on the world, just in case.

The Occoviria of Halon

Halon is the last bastion of Imperial society on

Curicosa. Once ruled by a planetary Governor, the

city is now governed by an oligarchy known as the

Occoviria, each the leading head of house of the

collected Curia-families. Each family of the Curia drawdirect lineage from the last Adepta present on the

world and have formalized their families wealth and

work into extremely honorific and traditional heritages

that have intricately ingrained familio-monopolies of

trade and wealth.

While the oligarchs remain in control of the city,

each decade a single member of the Occoviria is

elected as the Primus. The Primus' role is simple in

theory - to settle arguments and hostilities among the

council of oligarchs. In practice however, the Primus -

Elect is a dictator with absolute control until the end of

their reign.

The current Primus-Elect is Carydas Bellum of the Ecclesiastic-Curia. Level-headed and motivated

by the scriptures of the First Families, she has in the

last three years initiated a resurgence of the Imperial

Creed and has successfully convinced the other

oligarchs to enforce these edicts on the wilders

outside the city gates. This has lead the Primus into

direct confrontation with the so-called Beast Queen of

the eastern tribes - Ahina the Relentless, who has

rallied her people in defense after Halon's firs t stri kes

devastated the coastal communities.

The cities Haruspex have cited dark omens about

the two leaders - when a blazing comet falls upon

Curicosa and the hammer strikes, the Beast Queen

and the Princess shall meet in dread confrontation.

One shall stand victorious, blessed by the stars, and

govern Curicosa to a new age of glory or sink it into

eternal darkness. Disturbing as the prophecy is, many

of the Haruspex are divided in opinion as to who

should be aided. No auger has definitively given clue

to who would bring the light, or would cast them into

the gloom of night.

The Seer of Noctis-Hostilia

Halon is dismissive of the wild tribes outside it's

gates save for one - the Seer of Noctis-Hostilia. To

the northwest the ruins of the city is home to the seer

Vhagarvittra, renown across the northern quandary

for her augers to be both accurate and dreadful. Thebrave and foolish alike have travelled to Noctis-

Hostilia to learn of their fates. Those who have

succeeded in bargaining for this favor have become

both successful and blighted - thei r worldly des ires

made hollow by great personal losses. Despite these

cautionary examples, every year sees new faces

willing to risk the odds.
