Main campus parking is very limited, so plan to get here early. J1and J2, the Jubilee Auditorium and ACAD parkade, and Level 1 in theP6 parking garage under Cohos Commons area on the south side ocampus, with access rom 14 Avenue and rom 10 Street. The city issues
tickets or unauthorized parking. Please see page 7 or parking rates.

FINDING YOUR ROOM
Sta and volunteers will be on the main oor o the Thomas RileyBuilding to assist apprentices on registration day. Your room number willbe in the confrmation letter you received rom SAIT Polytechnic. Pleasebring your letter to the frst day o class and keep it or uture reerence.
MONEYYou will need to purchase either books or modules and other items orclass. These costs can total up to $600. Do not buy modules ahead otime as they may be outdated by the time you attend classes, and theycannot be returned to the bookstore.
Be aware that you may not receive Employment Insurance payments
or as long as four to six weeks ater you start classes. Plan tohave alternative fnancial arrangements in place during this time.

1. Employment Insurance. Be prepared to wait our to six weeks orEmployment Insurance payments. Ensure you have alternativefnancial arrangements in place during this time.

STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT (PROCEDURE AC.3.4.1)
Students are responsible or conducting themselves appropriatelyand in the best interests o the Institute. They are expected to applythemselves to their studies and are required to conorm to theInstitutes policies, rules and regulations.
DISRUPTIVE CONDUCT
Students are required to conduct themselves in a manner that doesnot interere with the legitimate academic and/or business activitieso the Institute. This does not diminish the students assured rights asstated in the Canadian Charter o Rights and Freedoms. In particular,
disruption o scholarly activities by abusive or threatening languageor gestures, or physical intererence with another person or theirproperty may result in the immediate removal o the student rom theclass or activity and subsequent disciplinary action.
RIGHTS
Students at SAIT can expect the ollowing rights to be upheld:
all rights and reedoms recognized by law; reedom rom discrimination or any reason: place o origin,

In cases o misconduct, SAIT Polytechnic may take disciplinarymeasures including warning, community service, restitution, probation,restriction o privileges, notation, suspension, expulsion or legal action.Where disciplinary actions arise, students have a right o appeal as
described in the procedure.
RESPONSIBILITIES
SAIT Polytechnic maintains that students have individual and groupresponsibility or:
staying inormed o and respecting SAIT policies and procedures and
the exercise by SAIT o its legitimate authority; taking ull advantage o the education, training and services that
SAIT oers;
maintaining academic integrity and ensuring that work submittedor evaluation is the students own work. Any material or ideasincorporated rom other sources must be clearly identifed.

It can include behaviour such as: sexualizingphysical contact; making suggestive remarks or other verbal abuse;making degrading gestures or leering at a persons body; makingdegrading remarks toward a gender or a sexual preerence group;demanding sexual avours; or extending compromising invitations.

INJURY TO PERSONS/DAMAGE TO PROPERTY

Students are required to comply with saety measures identifed bythe Institute. Injury, damage or misappropriation o SAITs property,or threats (written or verbal) o injury, damage or misappropriation to
another person or his/her property may result in disciplinary action.
LIQUOR, TOBACCO AND DRUGS (PROCEDURE AD.2.2.1)
Disciplinary action will be taken in the ollowing cases: studentsviolating policy on the consumption and service o alcohol; studentsailing to comply with designated non-smoking areas; or students using
or distributing illegal drugs.
ACCEPTABLE USE OF SAITS COMPUTER SYSTEM
(PROCEDURE AD.2.7.1)
All members o the SAIT Polytechnic community who have occasion touse any o the inormation services o the Institute, including students(ull-time, part-time, continuing education), sta (ull-time, part-time,
contract and wages) and members o the general public are subject tothe Inormation Services User Code procedure.

ACADEMIC REGULATIONS
ACADEMIC MISCONDUCT (PROCEDURE AC.3.4.1)
SAIT Polytechnic is committed to academic integrity, which is based on
fve undamental values honoured by aculty members and students:honesty, responsibility, trust, airness and respect. Reasonablemeasures are taken to inorm students o the standards o academichonesty. All members o the SAIT community share the responsibilityand authority to address acts o academic misconduct.
Academic misconduct is the commission or attempted commission
o any action which alsely indicates the students level o academicachievement. Any student who assists another student in thecommission or attempted commission o academic dishonesty is alsoguilty o academic misconduct. Academic misconduct includes, but isnot limited to, acts o plagiarism and cheating.
Plagiarism occurs in situations where a student presents the work that
has been done in part or in whole by another person as the studentsown work; presents the words, ideas, images or data o another personas the students own without reerence to the original author ororiginal source; presents work done or another course or program atSAIT or elsewhere without the instructors knowledge or prior approval;or presents work that in any way compromises the integrity o theevaluation process.
Cheating occurs in situations where a student uses unauthorizedmaterials in examinations or other evaluations; communicates withother persons during an examination or other evaluation; alsifesdata or documents; views other students work during an examinationor other evaluation; or commits acts that in any way compromise theintegrity o the evaluation process.
Consequences o academic misconduct depend on whether it is a frst,second, or third academic misconduct oence. For a frst oence,the student will receive a zero grade or the assignment/exam. Forthe second oence, the student will receive a zero [ail] grade orthe course and a one-year suspension rom the Institute. For a thirdoence, the student will receive a zero [ail] or the course andpermanent expulsion rom the Institute. A student who is guilty oacademic misconduct will have the Letter(s) o Oence remain on his/her fle or a period o seven (7) years. ... continued on page 20

A student who is expelled rom SAIT Polytechnic as a result oacademic misconduct will have this indicated indefnitely on his/herpermanent record [transcript].
NON-ACADEMIC MISCONDUCTNon-Academic Misconduct behaviour that is subject to disciplinaryaction under this procedure includes violations o established civiland criminal laws, conduct that threatens the saety or well-being omembers o the SAIT Polytechnic community, and/or any behaviourthat adversely aects SAIT or its educational mission.
ACTS OF NON-ACADEMIC MISCONDUCT INCLUDE:
1. Intentionally or negligently disrupting any SAIT activity or SAITPolytechnic sponsored activity, particularly learning activities.
2. Use o orce or threat o orce against any person or his/her property.
3. Sexual assault.
4. Intentionally or negligently endangering the well-being or saety o
sel or others.
5. Harassment in any orm (spoken, written, graphical, etc.).
6. Discrimination (including discrimination on the basis o place oorigin, race, colour, religion, or gender).
7. Unauthorized entry into SAIT acilities.
8. Unauthorized use o or misuse o SAIT property, includingcomputers and data and voice communications networks (seepolicy/procedure AC.2.7.1 Inormation Services User Code).
9. Use, possession or storage o a weapon or dangerous substance(including but not limited to chemicals, freworks, ammable gasor explosives) on SAIT premises, whether or not a license has been
issued to the possessor.10. Illegal possession or distribution o alcohol, narcotics or other
mind-altering drugs on SAIT property or among members o theSAIT community.
11. Being under the inuence o alcohol, narcotics or drugs thatinterrupt the normal business o SAIT.
12. Thet o SAIT services or property, or ailure to speak up concerninginormation about such thet.

13. Possession o stolen property.
14. Intentional or careless damage to SAIT propertyor the property o others.
15. Violation by a student o any ethical codes governing the relatedproession, particularly during clinical courses, practicums, ordirected feld studies.
16. Violations o civil or criminal statutes or applicable laws, courtorders or orders o any administrative tribunals having jurisdiction.
17. Willul ailure or reusal to appear beore any designated SAIT
ofcial(s) and/or ailure to comply with directives rom SAIT ofcials.18. Violating the terms o this Student Code o Conduct.
19. Disorderly conduct on SAIT premises or at SAIT activities.

consequences and major consequences. Minor consequences includewarning/admonition, community service, restitution, probation, restrictiono privileges, and notation. Major consequences include suspension andexpulsion. Consequences are defned in more detail in SAIT PolytechnicsPolicy AC.3.4.1 Student Code o Conduct Appendix B.
Factors that SAIT may consider when choosing an appropriate consequenceinclude, but are not limited to, whether there has been a previous fndingo academic or non-academic misconduct with respect to the student; theseverity o the misconduct; multiple allegations o misconduct; personalcircumstances o the student; and court decisions related to the same case.
Either a major or minor consequence may be appropriate i there hasbeen a previous fnding o misconduct or i there are currently multipleallegations o misconduct, depending on the actors set out aboveand other relevant circumstances. A major consequence is most otenappropriate where the misconduct is grievous or repeated and, inparticular, in cases o physical or sexual aggression.
Any attempt to commit Non-Academic Misconduct will bear the sameconsequence as i the act occurred. A student who assists another studentin an act or an attempted act o Non-Academic Misconduct will also be
considered to have committed an oence.

THREE STRIKESThe intensity o the technical training portion o your programdemands ull-time attendance and application during your term atSAIT. Thereore, a three strikes and youre out practice has beenimplemented to reduce absenteeism, lateness and unproductivebehaviour.
Strike One: Perormance or attendance issues including lateness willreceive one warning rom your instructor to correct the problem.
Strike Two: I perormance or attendance continues to be an issue, youwill be reerred to your program Academic Chair.
Strike Three: I the problem is not corrected, you will be reerred to theApprenticeship Liaison Ofcer. Should the problem remain unresolved,
you may be withdrawn rom class.
