    KEY CLUB'S DOMINO EFFECT

    By Winnie Lu10, Secretarys Assistant

Just from the one school year I've been a member of Key Club, I

am constantly reminded and made aware of the huge impact of

Key Club International. From being a part of this club, anything

Kiwanis or Key Club International related immediately jumps out

and catches my eye. Even when I was on vacation in Glenwood

Springs, Colorado this past June, I was pleasantly surprised to see a

Glenwood Springs Kiwanis banner advertising an event. That's when

the reality really hit me that Key Club International is an organization

that has the incredible capability of improving communities nearlyeverywhere you go, and even in places you may never receive the

chance to visit. But that's the real beauty of Key Club; oftentimes,

you don't need to physically visit third world countries in order to

help their living conditions. Service projects that we create and

support in Key Club, such as the ELIMINATE Project, give people the

opportunity to help someone somewhere that is half a world away.

It's the small things you do here that make a tremendous impact on

others thousands of miles away. The domino effect of Key Club is a

positive one. One that allows a group of people with a common

interest in service to continue passing it on to more and more

people. Key Club and Kiwanis are like one big happy family.

Everyone has hearts full of love and service to give to those less

fortunate. And when more people are persuaded into becoming a

part of this family, the overall impact only increases. It's amazing to

me that wherever you may be when you discover Key Club related

signs or events, you already have a hundred things in common with

these fellow members you've never met. Somewhere in Glenwood

Springs, Colorado, there's another member who is just as passionate

about Key Club and it's incredible capabilities as you are. Key Club

is not just about the volunteering and the service, but it also unites

all of us who believe in transforming our world for the better, one

volunteer at a time. I'm honored to be a small part of Key Club

International, an organization that is slowly, but surely, improving ourfuture as we know it and bringing positivity to not only those around

us, but also to those half a world away.

Service in the Sun!Summer Service by Vivian Young11, Historian

Its summer, and as we all know, here in Texas, it can get extreme

hot. As a result, a lot of us can find it hard to motivate ourselves t

even function outside, let alone volunteer. However, even in this

hot weather, there are still some fun, summer-filled, water-loving

fundraisers and service projects that will be perfect for the heat!

Dont let the temperature outside stop you from serving the

community! One idea for a summer volunteering event is the

classic car wash. Throughout the school year, car washes have

been an important fundraising event for projects such as

ELIMINATE and have proven popular amongst volunteers and

drivers, contributing a hefty amount to fundraising. With a car

wash, you can help raise money for good causes over thesummer. This is a great way to serve over the summer and keep

cool with fellow Key Clubbers as you spray cars with water and g

wet in the process. This way, you can serve the community while

still keeping cool. Another fun idea for summer service is to have

fundraising socials at places like Menchies. What better way to

cool off in the summer sun than eating some delicious frozen

yogurt? Menchies is one example of places that have programs

to help organizations with fundraising for their causes.

Organizations that partner up with such companies get a cut of

the profits earned from those who mention the name of the

organization. This is an easy way to relax and have fun during the

summer while still earning money for causes such as the ELIMINAT

project. Finally, one last way to volunteer over the summer is to

simply volunteer indoors! Air conditioning is one of the greatest

inventions of mankind, and we should utilize that while

volunteering. Stay inside and keep cool as you help out others,

and dont worry about sweating around in the hot outdoors. Tha

way, you can get away from the heat and enjoy your time

volunteering. You cant let the temperature discourage you from

volunteering over the summer! There are many ways to voluntee

and have fun during the summer, and hopefully, the heat wontprevent you from doing so. You can still fulfill your duty as a Key

Club member over the summer while still staying comfortable an

refreshed. Keep up the Key Club spirit over the summer! Make su

to kee cool, kee volunteerin , and have fun!
