2011 Marco Simoncelli Memorial, Coriano, Italy with Alice Bianchi architectAfter the tragic death of MotoGP racer, Coriano has commissioned this monument to commemorate the city champion.Located in the heart of the town, near the staircase to the church, it was decided to widen the walkway with a small square visible from the arterial road as well as the pedestrian path, creating a place of rest and thought.A bench performs the dual function of containing the hill behind and deposition, in the recess formed in the backrest, of many flowers that people still leave on the steps. The shape of the bench invokes a motorcycle circuit: a straight, then a curve, indicated by a “curb” with the containment function of the ground.A “deconstructed” podium is the other strong element which characterizes the project; bronze sculpture by Renzo Jarno Vandi depicts the champion stands in the highest step.White granite stone for the bench, the podium and the curb, 8x8 cm blocks of porphyry as a continuation of the existing pavement, the only two existing materials, to highlight the simplicity of the young boy champion of the world and humility.

2009 ANC PENTAMARK - Competition for the redevelopment and enhancement of urban expressway Ancona Passetto PortEvolution of a landmark“From sea to sea”. Almost 100 years after the homonymous town plan that attempted to merge the Port to Passetto, PENTAMARK connects them mending the old town center with residential areas adjacent to the Victory Avenue, reaching the Passetto war memorial and the sea to the east.PENTAMARK is a variable pattern, born on the geometric shape of the pentagon Vanvitelliana Mole, landmark of the city of Ancona, The PENTAMARK shares the shape of the Mole, symbol of the city, one of the most important points of the waterfront in Ancona, so the PENTAMARK will also be a highly recognizable and familiar element along the Porto-Passetto.Pentamark enables the citizen through the form, the use of green with its seasonal colors and materials used, with a clear readability of the entire urban expressway. The Port now is closer to Passetto. The pattern application suggests a different mode and pace along a linear space, creating new opportunities, new meeting places and staging, but also economic growth to the present activities along the axis. The project seeks to vary the appearance of the four urban areas of intervention by modeling space as needed, but especially by creating new atmospheres to dive to enjoy the city. Ancona has moved away from the sea over the years, suffering the condition of being a city in the margins of tourists crossing the Adriatic. The Pentamark makes a perfect splice between urban and nature:continuous movement of the sea is taken along the line due to the grasses swaying to every breath of wind and water tanks burst of green alternating with terraces on Corso Garibaldi, Piazza Cavour becomes the new urban park of Ancona, Victory Avenue a system immersed in living color and green. The director is not just a simple linear element but a living space, meter by meter.PENTAMARK is outdoors, an accelerator of social life.

2009 RLP Brique de Bois - Architectural competition for the construction of a school complex, Rueyres (Swiss) - with AMA officeThe project born as a part of the fundamental principle : “school is a factor to achieve socially integrated.” The project proposes a series of simple volume recalling the basic geometric shapes that kids know, “Brick Wood.” This game is the concept of our project.“Brick Wood” allows a correct relationship, a report to the extent of the child. Cubes are arranged in the sites gave way to rhythm and dynamics. The landscape offers by this region is fabulous: the mountains that make neck-crown, the roofs of buildings in the town, the lush green views. The combination of these suggestions were brought to sculpt the massing of the project that will integrate with the context, leaving him as free as possible and at the same time re exalt the characteristics of the place. There is a desire to create volumes that each have its own identity independent enabling of use. About the vitality of the intervention, the latter is characterized by a rotation of volumes at the corners. The residue thus serve to areas for specific functions. Sometimes the choice of maintaining green spaces for recreation and outdoor sports in school and enrolled on a sweet in its con-text. Circulations superimposed mark the position of the stairs and is presenting a series of distances traveled in successive discoveries. The project includes a main entrance, a secondary and a direct connection to the gym. The intervention is on two levels, classrooms, halls and handicrafts infant classes are oriented south, special rooms and hallway di-stribution are oriented north and spaces benefit from ideal condi-tions, without penetrating light or reflections.

Archilab exhibition, Villa Renatico Martini, Monsummano Terme (IT)Martini Villa, today public property, is located just outside the town in a place called Renatico the road that goes to the castle. It was built for Ferdinando Martini around 1887 by architect Cesar Spighi, according to the Tuscany eclectic taste of the late ninete-enth century. The villa is now in its eighteenth century appearan-ce of two-storey rectangular building, and is characterizedby a double row of windows and a double stairs flight to access. The villa is surrounded by a large park, famous for its precious plant species, including oaks, redwoods and camphor.Inside, many rooms are decorated with elegant coffered ceilings with round ceramic polychrome.Aim of the project is to make a permanent exhibition schedule with the benefit of making a building of architectural history of our territory such the villa Renatico Martini The program of activities of the Museum emerging as the primary need is to have a flexible and adaptable system to changing exhi-bitions that the Museum will host.Temporary exhibition in fact is dominant compared to exposure of the permanent collection.A semi-transparent wall follows the perimeters of all the exposure rooms to a height corresponding to the frame of the original wall. This solution emphasizes the size of the room showing us the score windows and doors due to its translucency. The artwork will be hung at any point of this system through a wall with metal brackets mounted behind the work that will be the picture on the wall without any visible means semistrasparen-te.The central hall with staircase rising form the lobby of the mu-seum, where a glass door will be made to equip the museum needed the double doors, the lobby will also be made through the guardaroda works of furniture and the bookshop. On the ground floor there is a multipurpose room with indepen-dent entrance and exit. The main characteristic from an aesthetic point of life of the wall will be that ofbe the projection screen or take the colorings needed by artistsonly through projection systems and lightingFrom a structural point of view the wall will be self-supporting and fi xed to the wallwall plugs through the wall to stabilize it.It ‘clear that this versatile technology Wall will performto a large number of requests made by artists housed in the Mu-seum

computerized survey Pastificio Ghigi, Morciano (IT)Morciano has launched an initiative for urban regeneration under Regional Law No. 19/98surface of approx. 149,000The Ghigi complex is in many respects a critical emergency in the life and image of Morciano. For decades it has indeed affected the economic development, source of comfort during positive growth, but also factor in the crisis in the ‘70s,A distinctive presence on the urban image, for the great deve-lopment of the horizontal block and vertical feed mill and the mill, which prevails over an urban individually ordered to mainly two-storey building. A very obvious and visible emergency in Val-conca valley, as to be called the “Morciano Castle”, for the shape of the embattled parapets up and for the impressive volumes of the different buildings, which interact with the settlements history of the surrounding hills and the ancient and famous Malatesta castle in Montefiore Conca. The ground floor consists of a large building of 2,500 square me-ters. of sales area, of which 1,500 square meters. food, and a dozen small to medium sized shops, covering an area of 1,000 square meters. The main car park of the shopping complex and office is located in the basementThe first floor is largely occupied by the multi-purpose space (in-tended for fitness, recreation and exhibition) and a complex multi-connected to the inner square by two elevators and wide scale. The entrance to public spaces is preceded by a small pedestrian square blanket, overlooking the broader in front of the mall. The body top of the mill, above the shop and exhibition space, is also fully intended to offices. Spread over four floors (third to seventh), with individual offices facing towards the sea, served by an open corridor to the courtyard of the complex. There are 16 apartments of various sizes, with prevalence of me-dium and small size, in the body to the south, on three floors. All apartments are facing south, looking over the hills. The body facing to the west is provided for 21 apartments in the three upper floors, with balconies on both sides.Outside the building retains the existing features, but with few significant changes:The internal part is instead transformed, with the creation of pe-destrian square, with commercial and public facilities inside, paths and square at the top level. The structure is characterized by a large structural mesh and a lar-ge coverage curvilinear, which unifies and characterizes the space of the theater and fairground, and then sends out.

Re-use of a rural building for residential use in the artist’s house with attached workshop and showroom. The internal layout of the existing, old rural building was redesigned for resi-dential use. This was done respecting to the relationship of lighting and ventilation. Corridors were eliminated in favor of a larger kitchen and living room, bathrooms added in the living room and masterbedroom.A new building of 180 sqm was constructed directly linked to the home and used as a temporary exhibition of works by the purchaser, taking the typical character of the place and the farm building opposite (wooden roof suppor-ted by trusses with double flap)The new block is marked and visible from two 12 meters high “glass-box” , one facing the arterial road, used as the main entrance and foyer for visitors as well as “light well” for the wing of exposiotion. The other towards the sea as studio for the artist. Part of this second box is on two levels so as to create a full-height space for large-scale works, two lower and more intimate spaces for small works. Both spaces have seaview. The exposition area as well as the artist’s studio are directly connected with the garden behind the house that becomes an open air museum for sculptures.

Sustainable Microarchitecture. Bird-watching hut L.I.P.U.The project includes a prototype of about 18 sqm of easy assembly modular upon tall trees, as proposed in the competition organized by L.I.P.U. in 2006.A careful study on the resistance of trees loaded by the structure was made, slip in wet or dry soil, bending or cutting crown of the tree and evaluating the strength of the wind, against horizontal and vertical structure simulations.

The module takes up the shape of a bird’s nest, from which it draws inspira-tion. It is also strongly attracted to the architecture of many primitive tribes of Central and South America as well as Papua New Guinea or some nomadic Mongol tribes.

It is built entirely of biocompatible materials such as stalks of bamboo for the frame, a material highly resistant to compression and bending, pre-compressed straw as insulation, bamboo leaf cut to contain the insulation. This prototype has made it possible to construct many platforms how the dia-meter of the trunk of the tree allows.

GraduationProjects2 November 2006 Master in Architecture

Page 72: Daniele Montanari Portfolio

The building is supported to the trunk of the tree through a particular structu-re Glimb named such the inventor Michael Garnier with which i was underta-ken an intensive exchange of ideas and suggestions. This bolting system resist to shear and compression, but not jeopardize the vital functions of the tree since penetrates no more than 14 cm in the cortex, which in a short course reabsorbs the “wound” supplementing it.Bolts are welded to the brackets to the beams, which finally support the platform.

Page 73: Daniele Montanari Portfolio
Page 74: Daniele Montanari Portfolio

The coverage and the facade circulated to “nest” are made integral to the platform by means of rings in which is passed the frame made from bamboo trunks, “drowned” in the compressed straw.

It has also provided a heating system with high efficiency solar vacuum tube for winter bird-watching sessions, though very rare.
