The program begins at 1100hrs. Special music by Brass 5. Keynote speaker is Alex Kershaw, journalist and a New York Times bestselling author of books on World War II including "The Bedford Boys: One American Town's Ultimate D-Day Sacrifice". There will be a book signing following the ceremony for his newest release, "The First Wave: The D-Day Warriors Who Led the Way to Victory in World War II". When all the candles have been placed, there will be approximately 3000 candles representing the "light of freedom" we all enjoy today due to the sacrifices of our Veterans and serving members. Ships docked in port will pay their respects before the ship emerges into the Solent to be met by a flotilla of Royal Navy vessels who will sail past her and salute with sailors lining the decks. Members of the public are encouraged to line key vantage points to wave off the veterans as they re-trace the journey they made in 1944.

To commemorate the 75th Anniversary of D-Day and to honour the men who spearheaded the invasion, the highly successful event which was first staged in 2009 is being repeated in 2019. On 4th June 2019, a group of 186 sponsored runners will set off from the site of Tarrant Rushton Airfield in Dorset and make their way into the New Forest and down to Portsmouth, covering 62 miles in under 24 hours. All participants must raise a minimum of £1,000 in sponsorship for The Veterans Charity. Each runner on the Run to Pegasus will represent a specific member of the Coup de Main group and will be issued with a commemorative t-shirt to wear for the final leg to the landing zone. The t-shirts will carry the name of the man they are representing. Some of the runners that have already signed up are relatives of men of the Coup de Main force.

• 1400hrs Unveiling of plaque on bridge over River Dives. The Veterans Charity will unveil a plaque dedicated to the thirty men of 22 Platoon who landed in no. 4 glider which went off course. The men had a very difficult time trying to reach their objective of Horsa Bridge, and faced intense enemy resistance and flooded fields for almost the whole 10-mile march back to rendezvous with their comrades. Three men lost their lives during the 24 hours and the platoon, together with approx. 15 other troops who they gathered along the way, made it to Ranville on 7th June with several casualties.

• 1500hrs At the war memorial in Couterne there will be a ceremony to unveil a plaque to RCAF Pilot Officer Robert Dunlop Davidson, shot down and killed in combat no 28th June 1944. He was the only Allied soldier to be killed in the commune of Couterne. Local officials and a Canadian delegation will be present but the public are also welcome. There will be a reading by local schoolchildren, a wreath-laying, minute of silence and national anthems to precede the unveiling. Afterwards there will be a reception the festival hall of Couterne, starting around 15:45hrs.

• All Day Normandy 75 - An International Conference (first day of 4-day event). The Conference will bring together scholars, students, and the public to explore this seminal event in detail and will endeavour to promote an interdisciplinary and international study of the Normandy Campaign by means of drawing upon the latest scholarship from a variety of disciplines. The conference will also serve as a forum for Second World War historians to discuss and debate the wide-ranging, international implications of the campaign and how it impacted other theaters and aspects of the conflict. Online registration for Normandy 75 will open in early September 2018 via the online store. The conference registration fee will include all keynote, plenary, and panel sessions as well as the conference dinner, a drinks reception, and daily breakfasts and lunches. • Time TBC D-Day Anniversary Cycle Ride. The Ride will take place over five days, and will offer two route options of approximately 160 miles or 230 miles in Normandy. It will focus on the D-Day landing beaches and key locations liberated in the days after the landings. Routes are designed to be enjoyable for both the regular cyclist and for the more inexperienced rider. Participants will meet at Southwick House just outside of Portsmouth on Wednesday afternoon, followed by an overnight ferry crossing to France. Participants will start cycling close to the time of day of the landings. In Fracne the base for cyclists with be Grandcap Maisy. On day three, a wreath laying ceremony will take place at the end of the day's ride. • 1030hrs Bolton Parish Church will hold its remembrance event on 2nd June. This will start at 1030hrs and will include a special service inside the church and a further commemorative event outside. Any interested parties are invited to attend, particularly ex-serviceman who served during the landings. • 1030hrs The Exmouth branch of the Royal British Legion is holding the service at the War Memorial, in The Strand. People from Exmouth and the surrounding area are invited to join the service with a special invitation issued to those who served in World War Two. A Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Devon will be present at the service which will feature music provided by ExmouthAir, and stories.

• 1000hrs Remembrance Bowl This summer, in commemoration of the 75th anniversary of D-Day, June 6th 1944, The Patton Alliance, Patton Legacy Sports and the town of Carentan are organizing a game of flag football featuring the "Screaming Eagles" of the 101st Airborne commemorating the Champagne Bowl "Game That Never Happened" in 1944. Helen Patton, granddaughter of General George S. Patton will be in attendance at the game which will take place at the stadium in Saint-Hilaire-Petitville. During the late fall of 1944, with Paris secure and ultimate victory inevitable, a football game reminiscent of America's Superbowl was planned for Christmas Day. The 101st Airborne Division paratroopers, who had already seen hard fighting in Normandy and the Netherlands, were stationed in Champagne, near Reims, the place of General Eisenhower's Allied headquarters. According to historian Stephen Ambrose, divisions held tryouts for the Champagne Bowl and practiced three hours a day. However, the game never took place, as the soldiers were recalled to duty in response to the German offensive in the Ardennes, and the 10,000 men of the 101st marched north in mid-December to the Battle of the Bulge.

• 1050hrs Families with a connection to D-Day are invited to Spalding Parish Church on Thursday, June 6 for the 75th anniversary commemorations. Spalding branch of The Royal Naval Association (RNA) will play a lead role in remembering lives lost during the Allied landings on the beaches of Normandy. The commemorations in St Mary and St Nicolas Parish Church will include standards marching in for a service of remembrance and re-dedication. For the first time, there will be a wreath laid at the new WWII Memorial in Ayscoughfee Gardens in remembrance of the Spalding servicemen who lost their lives during the landings.

• 1100 - 1600hrs D-Day 75th Anniversary event at the Museum of Aviation at Robins AFB. This is a Free Event. Movies will be shown throughout the day in the Scott Theatre including "Papa Said" at 1pm and a D-Day Documentary at 2pm. The B-17G Flying Fortress in the Scott Hangar will be open from 11am to 4pm. A Second World War memorabilia display will be set up in the Scott Hangar next to the B-17. There will be a Virtual Reality Simulator especially for the day - cost $7 for any ride. • 1830 - 2000hrs In the United States, we tend to think of "D-Day" as an inherently American undertaking. This overlooks the important contributions by the British Commonwealth. Three of the five beaches (Juno, Sword, and Gold) were assigned to British or Canadian divisions, and the Royal Navy provided the vast bulk of warships. Moreover, the Allies spent years encamped in Great Britain preparing for the cross-Channel invasion. This lecture by Dr. John C. Mitcham of Duquesne University and Britsburgh's History Society will examine Britain's role in the Normandy Campaign, from the planning and operations to its impact on British Society. Dr. Mitcham is an Associate Professor and Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of History at Duquesne. The 1 hour lecture will be followed by a 30 minute Q&A session. Coffee service included. This presentation is complimentary with paid museum admission.
