2017 ANNUAL REPORT Dear donors, On behalf of our board, I would like to thank you for your outstanding financial support. Without your generosity, Panhandle State Foundation would not be able to continue to provide financial assistance to Panhandle State and its students. Because the cost of a college education continues to rise, Panhandle State Foundation’s focus remains on providing scholarships to needy and deserving students. For 2017-2018, we were able to award over $425,000 in various forms of scholarships to OPSU students. If you could read the thank you letters from our scholarship recipients, you would know the incredible impact these scholarships are making on Panhandle State students. We are honored to continue to provide this support through the Panhandle State Foundation Scholarship Program. Panhandle State Foundation also handles many accounts for OPSU including the OPSU Housing Fund, Shooting Sports Complex Fund, Football Fence Fund, the Walking Path Fund and approxi- mately 50 student club or campus organization accounts. In addition, the Foundation paid for goods and services on behalf of Panhandle State totaling nearly $300,000. Recently, Panhandle State Foundation received the largest private donation to OPSU athletics in university history! Keep an eye out on campus for the various athletic improvements planned. The Foundation also received three grants this year. The first grant is used for scholarships to education students during their semester of student teaching and as a grant to OPSU faculty who are engaged in professional development. The second grant is used to fund events or projects on campus. Three applications were funded this year: a concert, a play and library improvements. The final grant will be used towards the purchase of a new smokehouse for the Firestone Meats Lab, which will allow better preparation of students in modern curing and smoking procedures and more uniform products available to customers. Last year, the Panhandle State Foundation board showed its dedication and support of OPSU with a $250,000 matching grant towards the renovation of the president’s house. It is a great pleasure to announce the house remodel is nearly complete! We greatly appreciate our donor’s remarkable support of this project and look forward to collaborating on the upcoming dorm renovation project slated next in line in the campus housing renovation schedule. Once again, I thank you for allowing Panhandle State Foundation the opportunity to assist Panhandle State on its journey towards excellence. You, the donors, make progress through knowledge attainable. As always, donations to Panhandle State Foundation are tax-deductible and can be directed to the fund of your choice. Sincerely, Doris Looper, EdD Executive Director

2017 ANNUAL REPORT

Dear donors,

On behalf of our board, I would like to thank you for your outstanding financial support. Without

your generosity, Panhandle State Foundation would not be able to continue to provide financial

assistance to Panhandle State and its students.

Because the cost of a college education continues to rise, Panhandle State Foundation’s focus

remains on providing scholarships to needy and deserving students. For 2017-2018, we were able

to award over $425,000 in various forms of scholarships to OPSU students. If you could read the

thank you letters from our scholarship recipients, you would know the incredible impact these

scholarships are making on Panhandle State students. We are honored to continue to provide this

support through the Panhandle State Foundation Scholarship Program.

Panhandle State Foundation also handles many accounts for OPSU including the OPSU Housing

Fund, Shooting Sports Complex Fund, Football Fence Fund, the Walking Path Fund and approxi-

mately 50 student club or campus organization accounts. In addition, the Foundation paid for

goods and services on behalf of Panhandle State totaling nearly $300,000. Recently, Panhandle

State Foundation received the largest private donation to OPSU athletics in university history! Keep

an eye out on campus for the various athletic improvements planned. The Foundation also received

three grants this year. The first grant is used for scholarships to education students during their

semester of student teaching and as a grant to OPSU faculty who are engaged in professional

development. The second grant is used to fund events or projects on campus. Three applications

were funded this year: a concert, a play and library improvements. The final grant will be used

towards the purchase of a new smokehouse for the Firestone Meats Lab, which will allow better

preparation of students in modern curing and smoking procedures and more uniform products

available to customers.

Last year, the Panhandle State Foundation board showed its dedication and support of OPSU with a

$250,000 matching grant towards the renovation of the president’s house. It is a great pleasure to

announce the house remodel is nearly complete! We greatly appreciate our donor’s remarkable

support of this project and look forward to collaborating on the upcoming dorm renovation project

slated next in line in the campus housing renovation schedule.

Once again, I thank you for allowing Panhandle State Foundation the opportunity to assist

Panhandle State on its journey towards excellence. You, the donors, make progress through

knowledge attainable. As always, donations to Panhandle State Foundation are tax-deductible and

can be directed to the fund of your choice.

Sincerely,

Doris Looper, EdD

New scholarships

Dr. James A. Countryman Scholarship

The Dr. James A. Countryman Scholarship was established by donations from friends and family as

well as memorial donations. The endowed scholarship will be available beginning with the 2018-

2019 year. It will be open to an OPSU student who is a Junior or Senior with a minimum 3.5 GPA.

Applicants must be Pre-Vet majors planning to attend a veterinary medicine school after completion

of their bachelor’s degree. Financial need and community service will be considered during scholar-

ship selection.

Kenneth and Maxine Woodward Agricultural Scholarships

Kenneth and Maxine Woodward, of Texhoma, set up this endowment to fund four scholarships each

fall to OPSU students classified as seniors majoring in Animal Science, Ag Business, Agronomy and Ag

Education who maintain a 2.5 cumulative GPA. Student activities, leadership, and participation in the

judging team will be considered during selection. The Kenneth and Maxine Woodward Agricultural

Scholarships will be open for application at the end of the year and the first four scholarships will be

awarded for the 2018-2019 year. Kenneth and Maxine are generous supporters of Panhandle State

and outstanding contributors to Panhandle State Foundation.

Oklahoma Panhandle State University, the Alumni

Association and Panhandle State Foundation are

sharing the expense of a new software database

program. This is just one of many ways the three

separate entities work together towards

a common goal.

Our Mission:

Panhandle State Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)3

organization with the mission to aid Oklahoma Pan-

handle State University beyond the funding it receives

from the State of Oklahoma. It was founded in 1961

to assist OPSU and OPSU students. Panhandle State

Foundation continues to play a vital role in support-

ing the mission of OPSU to provide educational expe-

riences that are designed to enrich the personal lives

of students and to prepare them for roles in agricul-

ture, business, education, government and industry.

All donations are tax-deductible.

Oklahoma Panhandle State University

offering early college credit, master's degree

in agribusiness

Oklahoma Panhandle State University will launch a pilot

program next fall to give qualified students the chance to

graduate from high school with a college degree.

President Tim Faltyn said high school students who enroll in

the program will start as first-semester sophomores with two

courses and will continue earning college credits each spring,

summer and fall of high school for a total of 62 credits.

First master's program

Also coming to Oklahoma Panhandle State is the university's

first graduate degree program, a master's in agribusiness that is

being offered primarily online. Faltyn said OPSU graduates

about 100 agribusiness majors each year.

"Next up will be a master's degree in education," he said.
