Dear Readers,
Greetings and I welcome you to the pages of Udghosh
We are very happy to share the Bi-Annual college newsletter issue Udghosh, which features all the engagements of the college ranging from academics,
achievements, college club and committee activities, articles from staff and students to all the latest happenings in the campus. Through this edition,
we attempt to make the readers get a glimpse of life at IBA. We attempt to reach a diverse reading audience right from our strong alumni, faculty and
staff, corporate world, students, parents and all the extended members of IBA.
It is indeed an experience for me to be a part of a newsletter committee, something which has always excited me from school days. Here at IBA, being
the secretary of the committee and working on Udghosh is in itself a great honor . Let me take you on a voyage which will give you experiences and pic-
torial representations of celebrations which is the life of IBA that range from corporate workshops, extended evening business plan projects, a lot of
industry exposure, visits by the top notch of the industry for guest lectures, avid faculty members dedicated towards nurturing smart minds, a series of
happening events, festivals, fests which our student committees and clubs handle. This edition covers all the campus news from June 2012 to December
2012. I would like to thank a lot of people who have been a support for bringing up this edition. My extended gratitude to our CEO, Dean and Principal
for the support. I would thank each and every member of the newsletter committee for putting up a commendable job and hard work inspite of hectic
Internship schedule. I would specially acknowledge the lady behind the scene for her efforts and tremendous support at the call of time, Ms. Richa
Sarna without whom this edition wouldn’t have been possible.
I invite you to join us by sharing your opinion and suggestions which we shall look forward to take as leanings. Please feel free to share your
thoughts by reaching out to me through [email protected]. I would encourage you to reach to the online copy of the magazine on the IBA’s web-
site.
Happy Reading !

IBA Alumni Meet – New Delhi – 3rd Nov, 2012
Every year 2 energetic batches of enthusiastic professionals, Entrepreneurs leave our campuses at IBA – Ban-
galore and Greater Noida. With the numbers increasing year-on-year, we would like to promote the sense of
belonging and ownership amongst the students, faculty members and the management teams. We are looking
at each one of us as the Brand Ambassador of a great institution called IBA.
IBA Alumni Association – Delhi Chapter conducted its Alumni meet on 3rd Nov, 2012 where above 125
Alumni of both Bangalore & Greater Noida campus participated with their family, kids. It is always a great
experience when we meet after years and revive the good old days that we had during our studies. The
changed faces, hair cut, fat tummy makes us realize that time just flies and we grow so fast.
Needless to say that the sense of belonging will be manifested in our participation at the program christened
at the Campuses, as well as our contribution to the activities of the association.

The Little Master
The rains had begun a week ago and the summer temperatures in Bangalore had dropped quite a bit to make the mornings chilly and pleasant .Another two days to go before 5th July 2015 –for the PGDM 15-17 batch to come into IBA. Placements for the earlier two batches had been extremely good and al-most a hundred percent. Admissions for the year were reportedly close to the figure of one hundred and eighty ,definitely great developments from all points of view. Well outside IBA-the metro line was woefully behind schedule providing me some interesting examples for the project management classes and Sachin Tendulkar ,the little( old) master had announced retirement from cricket (at last).
This was just my third day after moving into the faculty quarters at IBA, something I had been looking forward to. The commute to IBA from home was getting stressful with the abnormal congestion on the roads and the construction activities of the metro line. The prospects of avoiding these irritations and the opportunity to move into the campus and stay within the tranquil greenery was something I could not let go .Just needed two days to set up things and here I was, sipping a hot cup of early morning coffee in the balcony .There was music in the air with a few chirping birds ,and the grandeur of nature to watch in the form of a few drifting clouds and on account of all this ,the coffee was tasting wonderful.
It was just then that I saw from the corner of my eye ,something slithering on the balcony railing and almost impulsively and repulsively I withdrew my right hand which was on the railing. I then saw the movement closely and noticed it was just a centipede ,crawling slowly and steadily. It took a couple of minutes for me to shun the disgust one usually develops watching such crawling insects .I started to observe the centipede a bit more closely and now felt that it was not crawling but taking a leisurely regal walk with its multiple pairs of legs .I started wondering how it moved with such balance and grace de-spite so many pairs of feet whereas my own species would often wobble and limp with even just one pair of legs .
The color of this fellow was also a wonderful wine red ,something which would look extremely attractive on a sports car. Probably this fellow was a mind reader tracing my thoughts –because I saw it raising its head as if to question me –“Why are you so disgusted to look at me? I am just one more creation of God ,may not be as attractive as the clouds and birds to watch but I have my own distinctive features .Time you people realize that there is nothing insignif-icant in nature ,nothing which should be despised “.
A few moments of reflection and I felt all this was like a short play of the divine ,to restate some ultimate truth. It was like a lesson in philosophy for me ,like what the outcaste (Chandala) told AdiShankara –‘both these bodies, yours and mine, are composed of the five elements- earth, water, fire, air and space. The soul in me is however identical with the soul in you. So, I can’t imagine what you are shrinking from.’
I stayed respectfully rooted to the place I was standing ,watching my little master disappear into the nearby foliage reminding me that there are lessons eve-rywhere if we look around .From the deep recesses in my memory, this incident also made me recall that in the world of management and game theo-ry ,there is a Centipede Game named after this little master .
The shrill whistle of the steam cooker was just the high decibel alarm needed to wake me up from bed .It took a couple of seconds for me to realize that it was only the 25th of July 2013 and I was unusually late in sleeping the previous night ,reading a book on game theory .Well they say that dreams come true I would certainly be delighted if the 12-14 and 13-15 batches get placed well and admissions touch the peak capacity .But walking into the campus today ,I will certainly look out for my little master .
PS: In game theory the centipede game, first introduced by Robert Rosenthal in 1981, is an extensive
form game in which two players take turns choosing either to take a slightly larger share of a slowly
increasing pot, or to pass the pot to the other player. The payoffs are arranged so that if one passes
the pot to one's opponent and the opponent takes the pot on the next round, one receives slightly
less than if one had taken the pot on this round.

I had a dream of joining such an Institute having unique features with no comparison & no substitute .
The healthy environment with greenery all Around , Keeps our health always Sound, So, IBA is the perfect Ground . The wonderful tall trees with hanging coconut Tender , rejuvenate us with fresh air that they Render . Salubrious climate gives us feeling of Hill Station , AOL center provides us zeal to achieve our Destination. The Institute with excellent professionals generates enough quest for a constant Learning , which is always a fun Churning . The spiritual environment of the Institute Keep our spirit always High, Always we look to the sky with moral High .
When something wonderful happens, we can’t wait to tell them about it, knowing they will share in our excitement. They are not embarrassed to cry with us. Never do they hurt our feelings or make us feel like we are not good enough, but rather they build us up and show us the things about our self that make us special and even beautiful. There is never any pressure, jealousy or competition but only a quiet calmness when they are around. You can be yourself and not worry about what they will think of you because they love you for who you are. The things that seem insignificant to most people such as a note, song or walk become invalua-ble treasures kept safe in your heart to cherish forever. Memories of your childhood come back and so clear, it’s like being young again. Colors seem brighter and more brilliant. Laughter seems part of daily life where before it was often or didn’t exist at all. A phone call or two during the day helps to get you through a long day’s work and always brings a smile to your face. In their presence, there’s no need for continuous con-versation, but you find you’re quite content in just having them nearby.
I remember one person said about Love “Things that never inter-ested you before become fascinating because you know they are important to this person who is so special to you.” You think of this person on every occasion and in everything you do. Simple things bring them to mind like a pale blue sky, gentle wind or even a storm cloud on the horizon. You open your heart knowing that there’s a chance it may be broken one day and in opening your heart, you experience a love and joy that you never dreamed possible. You find strength in knowing you have a true friend and possibly a soul mate who will remain loyal to the end. Life seems completely different, exciting and worthwhile. Your only hope and security is in knowing that they are a part of your life.”
I I I don’t know more about Love life, but
once I promise someone that I will write something about Love here is my idea about love, “All individuals who are in this world love someone. They may be our parents, family, or someone special. I truly believe, we find someone who can completely turn our world around. We tell them things that we’ve never shared with another soul and they absorb everything what we say and actually want to hear more. We share hopes for the fu-ture, dreams that will never come true, goals that were never achieved and the many disappointments life has thrown at us . Vinayak Mehra

SelF cOnfidEnce - A naTure oR nuRtuRe!
This has become one of the hot burning issues that has been discussed over world-wide ~ starting from the top B-schools, media, social net-working sites, to the corporate board discussion panels. Today, the entire corporate world is laying emphasis more on the human re-source management. As because, change management has become an essential paradigm as well as a parameter for leveraging the growth and profitability factors of the business firms. The question is to eval-uate the extent of manning efficiency in terms of effectiveness & effi-cacy.
So, the discussion turns on ~ What increases self-confidence? And what are the things that people need/ must do in order to increase their self-confidence to a very high level?
And as usual, different people with different perceptions; and with all other subjective influences have come up with some conclusions.
According to some, self-confidence is more about nurture than nature.
They think that more and more practice with some required guidance and supervision increases self-confidence. And when the self confi-dence is high, greater risks can be taken.
For instance, driving a car. It takes guidance, supervision and practice to learn the driving skills. Once the driving skills learnt properly, then self-confidence increases and higher stakes could be undertaken for further improvement.
But here, again lies some contradictions. Suppose, if a person, who has never driven get excited about driving and say "I'm looking for-ward to my driving lessons and I know I will be a good driver!" Then?!
Studies have shown that self-confidence is a 'talent' with some train-ing, which can result in 'near perfect' or 'World Class Perfor-
mance' (examples - Michael Phelps, Mohammad Ali, Sachin Tendul-kar and Michael Jackson, etc.).
Princeton based Gallup Organization have done 25 years of research on talents and observed that talents can be nurtured in a child till he/she attains the age of 15.
If, by that age, we are able to create certain recurring patterns of thoughts, feelings and behaviors, and apply that to appropriate roles in work or even play, we could have a world class performer, a leg-end!
The beautiful definition they have given is "Where others are strug-gling at something. Talents will do it effortlessly.."
So, we can conclude, self-confidence is a bit of both - nature & nur-ture! It depends on you ~ WHO YOU ARE!!!!

Something About Cloud computing
Cloud computing is computing based on the internet which delivers IT as a service with pay-as-you-go pricing. The name “cloud” represents “Internet hav-ing indefinite shape and size with complex structure”. This technology allows for much more efficient computing by centralizing data storage, processing and bandwidth. Most simple example is Gmail we never require to install it just we need a web browser to run it.
Cloud computing has a power of access with any of the devices mobile, laptop, tablet desktop etc. just we need internet connection.
The idea behind cloud computing technology is similar to the electricity that we all use at home, we don’t know how it is generated where it comes from , we just pay the bill for what we use, same is the case with cloud computing .we can use storage ,connectivity and computing power ,all the services are available on demand as you require and are delivered economically without compromising for security or functionality.
Types of clouds
There are basically four types of clouds that can be subscribed according to the need of an organiza-tion or individual.
1.Public Cloud - A public cloud can be accessed by any subscriber and it is shared across multiple or-ganizations, it is managed by an external service provider.
2. Private Cloud - A private cloud is established for a specific group or organization and limits access only to that group or organization, in short we can say it is for private use. 3. Community Cloud - A community cloud is shared among two or more organizations that have simi-lar cloud requirements.
4. Hybrid Cloud - A hybrid cloud is basically a combination of at least two clouds; the clouds may be the mixture of public, private, or community.
Cloud computing service models:
The cloud computing services are segmented into three categories based on service types namely Software as a Service, Platform as a Service and Infrastructure as a Service.
Software as a Service (SaaS): In SaaS service model, applications are hosted by a vendor or service provider and made available to customers over a net-work, typically through Internet. A subscriber has access to both resources and applications, but has a least control over the cloud; there is no need to have a physical copy of software installed on devices. E.g.: Salesforce .com, net suit.
Platform as a Service (PaaS): PaaS is the platform that hosts applications provided in (SaaS) PaaS provider gives subscribers access to the components that a developer requires to develop and operate applications over the internet. Subscriber has more control over the cloud as compared with SaaS layer but lesser than (IaaS). E.g.: Google App Engine, Force.com and Heroku.
Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS): (IaaS) deals primarily with computational infrastructure.
In this service model the subscriber completely outsources the storage and resource components,
such as hardware, software, servers and networking components that are required by him. In this service
layer the subscriber has most of the control on cloud as compared with the other two layers.
E.g.: Google Compute Engine, Google Cloud Storage and Google Big Query.

Workshop on Social Theorizing and Management Thinking
Sept. 14, 2012, IBA Bangalore
Our existing theories of life, self, culture, society, nation, business, management and the world are at a cross-roads now. We need radically new ways of thinking and practice. As part of our dialogues in Asian Forum for Social Theory we have been exploring some of these bor-der-crossing and foundational challenges since 2004. In the meantime, two of our co-walkers from this circle have published two works which try to grapple some of the epochal challenges of our times. In his just published book, New Earth Sastra: Towards Holistic Develop-ment and Management, Professor Subhash Sharma presents a new way of thinking about management and economics of our world which takes into consideration the needs of our Mother Earth. He pleads for a new sacro-civic society and harmonic globalization. This resonates with the concept of biohappiness recently presented by Dr. M.S. Swaminathan in his book, In Search of Biohappiness. This also resonates with the concept of planetary realization offered by Dr. Ananta Kumar Giri in his Knowledge and Human Liberation: Towards Planetary Realizations. Planetary realizations refer to the challenge and process of realizing our potential and aspirations as children of Mother Earth going beyond exclusion of many kinds such as class inequality, nation-state centered rationality and anthropocentrism. In our workshop, we propose to have a dialogue with Professor Sharma’s book bringing it in conversation with the concepts of biohappiness and planetary realizations.

HOPE means: Higher Order Purpose of Existence
“When the world says give up, Hope whispers "Try once more”
HOPE is a CSR activity which was initiated by the students of 9-11 batch of IBA. The main objective of HOPE is to build a better society and to make a difference in the
lives of those who are underprivileged.
Last year HOPE was launched in July by batch 11-13 who told us that being unwanted, unloved,
uncared for and forgotten by everybody is a much greater hunger and a much greater poverty than the
person who has nothing to eat. They asked us to join hands with them and make all those people feel
wanted, cared and loved by us.
Batch 12-14 students ran business plans for a week as part of Management Skills-1, of which half
of the profits generated was contributed towards HOPE. Also, during the Alumni meet a HOPE stall was
put up where games where organized for the alumni and contributions were received.
Diwali 2012 brought with it an enlightenment wherein the HOPE Team were inspired to celebrate
it with those people who were in need to get in touch with the youth. Therefore, they decided
to visit Shantidham Ashram , an old age home 4 Kms ahead of our campus which accommodated peo-
ple above 50 years of age. The HOPE team organized games and other events for them. They also ar-
ranged for their lunch and sweets from the HOPE funds. Few magazines were also donated towards their
library.
