Dear St Joey’s School Community,
I do hope that all mothers had a
wonderful day and were treated extra
special yesterday.
There is a lot of engagement occurring
in our classrooms at the moment.
Following are a few snippets from the
many learnings in each class. In
English, Prep students are learning
about rhyme, rhythm and poetry. They
are also learning about creation
stories, seasons and habitats. The
Year 1/2 class is looking at developing
characters in narratives. They are
investigating 3D shapes and will be
constructing a castle from 3D shapes.
They are also learning about Mary, the
mother of Jesus. Year 3 is creating
persuasive texts, researching
neighbours of Australia, using atlases
for mapping and learning about the
sacraments of the Catholic Church.
The Year 4 class is producing a
magazine about our local ANZAC
memorials. They are also learning
about indigenous perspectives and
Judaism. The Year 5/6 students are
creating persuasive texts,
investigating graphing and learning
about sustainable energy.
A reminder that National testing in
Numeracy and Literacy for our Years 3
and 5 students will take place this
week. Students who are absent on a
particular test day are able to sit the
missed test on Friday 13 May. Tues 10
May: Two Tests - Language
Conventions and Writing (ii) Wed 11
May: Reading (iii) Thu 12 May:
Numeracy. A reminder to parents that
these tests are not marked by our
teachers. Results will be issued by the
testing authority in due cause (usually
by the end of Term 3).
All Year 3 and 5 students are invited
to share in breakfast each day (details
inside).
Regards, Liam Dougherty
