COUNSELORS Bill Powers
Diana Hardy 678-993-8494
This is the 4th Sunday of Advent. But some of my parish family will be traveling to spend Christmas with family and friends who don’t live in Georgia. So for them, and for you too, I want to share this Christmas message from Pope Francis. Christian joy, like hope, is founded on God’s fidelity, on the certainty that God always keeps his promises. The prophet Isaiah exhorts those who have lost their way and have lost heart to entrust themselves to the faithfulness of the Lord, for his salvation will not delay in bursting into their lives. All those who have encountered Jesus along the way experience a serenity and joy in their hearts which nothing and no one can take away. Our joy is Jesus Christ, his faithful love is inexhaustible! May the Virgin Mary help us to hasten our steps to Bethlehem, to encounter the child who is born for us, for the salvation and joy of all people. May she obtain for us the grace to live the joy of the gospel in our families, at work, in the parish and everywhere – an intimate joy, fashioned of wonder and tenderness, the joy a mother experiences when she looks at her newborn baby and feels that he or she is a gift from God, a miracle for which she can only give thanks! Illumined by the gospel hope which springs from the humble stable of Bethlehem, I invoke the Christmas gift of joy and peace upon all: upon children and the elderly, upon young people and families, the poor and the marginalized. May Jesus, who was born for us, console all those afflicted by illness and suffering. May he sustain those who devote themselves to serving our brothers and sisters who are most in need. Happy Christmas to all! If you will be away for Christmas, know that you travel with my prayers for a happy and safe trip. Our parish depends heavily on our Christmas collection and if you will be away, you might want to use the on-live giving ability we have available on our parish website. Knowing the people of St. Peter Chanel, I can confidently thank you in advance for your generosity and support.
Merry Christmas, and reintegrating Pope Francis – May the Christ Child bless you with love, peace, and
happiness.

“For behold, when the voice of your greeting came to my
ears, the babe in my womb leaped for joy.” (LUKE 1:44)
When you hear the scripture readings and Gospel
reading each Sunday, do you “leap for joy?” If not,
don’t blame the lecturer or priest, rather look inside
yourself. Do you prepare for Mass each week or do
you just show up and expect to be entertained?
We need EUCHARISTIC GUARDIANS to spend
time in the presence of our Lord. Eucharistic Adoration
is a wonderful opportunity to pray silently before our
Lord for comfort, strength, peace and direction and to
present him with your needs and intentions. You may
bring your own prayer books, use the books in the
chapel, read the Bible, pray the rosary or just sit and
relax and enjoy the peace that comes from simply being
in the Presence of God. For more information, contact:

TAX-WISE PLANNING BEFORE THE YEAR’S END
Have you taken the opportunity to look at your taxes for this year? You might be surprised at how much of your
hard-earned money will go to the state and federal government. Now is the time to consider making an end-of-
year gift that will help offset your current tax liability.
END OF YEAR GIFT OPTIONS
There are a number of ways to make an end-of-year gift that provide you with valuable benefits and help further
our work here at St. Peter Chanel. Here are a few options to consider:
MAKE A DEDUCTIBLE GIFT OF PROPERTY AND AVOID TAX
If you own appreciated stock or real estate that you wish to sell without paying capital gains tax, consider gifting
property to us. We will sell your property tax-free and you receive a charitable tax deduction for your gift. Please
check with us on ways to transfer your property gift to us.
MAKE A DEDUCTIBLE GIFT AND RECEIVE LIFE INCOME
If you are looking for ways to make a tax deductible gift this year and increase your income for retirement or in
the future, we have several plans that could be the answer. Please contact Tom Blond at 678-832-1224.
YEAR END REMINDERS
Thank you in advance for your generous support of our annual Christmas collection which provides a significant
portion of the funds used all year long to support our many ministries and programs. This is the single most
important collection of the year for the operations of St. Peter Chanel.
Remember the December 31st deadline for charitable gift tax deductions. Contact Tom Blond at
678-832-1224 or [email protected] for information on how to transfer stock or other assets.
Checks postmarked in 2015, but delivered in 2016, can be claimed as a deduction in 2015.
Statements of contributions to St. Peter Chanel for 2015, which many use for tax preparation, will be mailed by
the end of January.

CATHOLIC SCHOOL PARISH VERIFICATION FORMS
It is that time of the year when parents seeking to place their children in Catholic Schools need to have a
Parish Verification Form signed by the Pastor. The Archdiocese of Atlanta asks that all its parishes assist with
financial support for the Catholic Schools. It also requires that parents of Catholic School students be active,
involved, and supportive members of their home parishes. Here at St. Peter Chanel, we ask the following of
our Catholic School parents:
letter from the pastor of your former parish regarding your involvement and support;
E-Giving system.
For your form to be processed, please contact Mary Ann Plachta at 678-832-1222 to set up an
appointment with Monsignor Rau for his signature. DO NOT mail or leave forms with the
receptionist for signature.

Bond at the Atlanta Metropolitan Tribunal.
This year’s Conference examines two areas. Dr. Paul Voss will look at the complex dynamic that exists between
economic activity and the Social Doctrines of the Church, drawing insights and relevant, practical lessons from
twelfth century Saint Homobonus, the Patron of Business Professionals. Fr. Dan Ketter will discuss the life mission
Jesus Christ proposes for each business professional.
The Conference is intended for all Christians, especially those in the Catholic business and professional community,
who wish to more deeply understand the role of faith in the workplace; learning how to integrate their lives and let
their Christian faith guide their actions in the secular business world.

Peter Canisius 1521–1597
Feast Day—December 21
This Doctor of the Church was born
in Holland and studied canon law in
Belgium before turning to the study
of theology in Germany. In 1543,
after meeting St. Peter Faber, one of
St. Ignatius of Loyola’s companions,
he entered the Society of Jesus and
soon became a well-known preacher.
He attended two sessions of the
Council of Trent and was an
important figure in the post-conciliar
Catholic revival in Europe. After
completing his doctorate, St. Ignatius
assigned him to renew the Catholic
faith in Germany. As the Jesuit
provincial in southern Germany,
Austria, and Bohemia, Peter Canisius
started schools, colleges, and
seminaries. He wrote three
catechisms in German and is
credited with keeping the southern
German peoples Catholic.
