    Years, just after Christmas,

    Still bemoaning the fact,

that the fat man had missed us.

At our door we heard voices,

    A group of our friends

saying, lets go to a party.

    Out the door we trundled,

    into the snow and ice.

    A gathering with friends

    would certainly be nice.

At the place where we gathered

    smiling faces were many.

    If I was to guess,

    NEW YEARS EVE SPECIAL

6:00PM - MIDNIGHTFREEGlass of Wine or Tom & Jerry -- Ring in 2014 with Us!

It is with much sadness to report that Kansas CityChies kicker Ryan Succop (pronounced suck-up)missed a 41-yard field goal attempt with our secondslef in regulation, a kick that could have eliminatedthe San Diego Chargers while vaulting the PittsburghSteelers into the playoffs. Instead, San Diego beat Kansas City 27-24 inovertime to clinch the AFCs second wild card. Based on a new rule this season, the Chargersshould have been flagged or illegal ormation prior

to Succops missed field goal. A flag should have beenthrown, the ball should have been moved up five yardsand Succop should have attempted another kick rom36 yards. Granted, Succop had just missed rom 41,so its no guarantee he would have hit rom five yardscloser. But, or his career, the Chies kicker is 90% onattempts under 40 yards. Missing one field goal romunder 42 yards was unexpected enough. Missing twoback-to-back is almost unthinkable. Te Chies, with nothing to lose orgain by a victoryover the Chargers, started just two o the 22 regulars.Perhaps i they started three or our, the outcome mighthave been more avorable or the Steelers. In short, San Diego lucked out and the Steelersand their ans have reason to be angry. But, thats what

happens when you dig a hole so early in the seasonand have to depend on other teams losing in hopes omaking it to the post season. When you go a ho-hum8-8, you dont have much room to complain. Te Steelers (and Chies) werent the only ones toget screwed by poor officiating with time winding down. With the Dallas Cowboys trailing by eight in the ourthquarter, tight end Jason Witten caught a 34-yard pass overthe middle o the field. Beore Dallas could get anotherplay off, the team was whistled or delay o game. It should not have been. Te play clock wasmistakenly reset to 25 seconds, as it would be or a playout o bounds where the game clock stops. It did noton this play, and the clock should have been set at 40seconds. Simply put, there was no penalty, and although

the Cowboys went on to score on that drive (convertingon 4th and 9), the argument can certainly be made thatevery snap counts in what ended up being a two-pointDallas loss. However, reerees and side judges are humanbeings, and as such, it isnt reasonable to expect them tobe perect. Except, o course, when it involves knockingthe Steelers out o the Playoffs.

What a way to end it

    By eight you could notice

the yawns that had started. The chili kicked in and

by golly I had enjoyed it.

    By nine some eyelids

    had started to droop.

    I took a break

cause I had to go outside.

    By ten the door

    was opening and closing.

    And there on the side

    several were dozing.

    Id come to the party

with one thing in my head.

    To make it to midnight

    before heading for bed.

    By ten fteen Id

    let that thought y.

    So yawning and nodding

    we all said good-bye.

    Maybe next time Ill

make it all full of cheer.

    and then right at twelve

    holler HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
