Dementia Supporter Caravan
What is Dementia Supporter Caravan?
• Dementia Supporter Caravan works towards establishing an integrated
community care system that enables people to continue to live in their home
town with a sense of security even they get dementia, and train people to be
‘dementia supporters’ who support people with dementia and their family,
throughout the country.
• Various people became dementia supporters: local residents, employees of
financial institutions and supermarkets, students of elementary, junior high and
high schools, etc.
• The goal is to have 8 million trained people at the end of 2017, and now over 6
million people have trained in the country so far.
Dementia Supporter• A Dementia supporter possesses appropriate knowledge of
dementia and does not have prejudice against people with
dementia, and acts as a supporter watching over dementia people
and their family to the best of his/her ability.
• Trying to understand the feelings of people with dementia and
their families, and telling friends and family learned knowledge
about dementia, are part of their actions.
• The Orange Ring, which is a sign
that one supports people with dementia,
is given to dementia supporters.
To be a Dementia Supporter
• Take a Dementia Supporters Training Program
(about 1-1.5 hours)
• Expense: Free
Caravan-Mate
• A Caravan-Mate is a training instructor of the
Dementia Supporter Training Program.
One can be a Caravan-Mate by taking
a Caravan-Mate training.
• Expense: Free
