In his Friday Sermon today, Hazoor Anwar (aa) continued to narrate about the Badri

companions of the Holy Prophet (sa). One companion of the Holy Prophet (sa) was Hazrat

Utba bin Masood (ra). He was among those who accepted Islam in the very beginning and

was part of the migration towards Abyssinia.

He was also among the companions of Sufa. Ashab-us-Suffa refers to those poor companions

of the Holy Prophet (sa) who used to live in a lounge attached to the mosque of the Prophet

(sa). The Holy Prophet (sa) himself used to take care of them. When he used to receive

Sadaqah or food, he used to send it to the companions of Sufa. The Muslims of Medina also

helped them; however, they lived a life of poverty.

These are people who always stayed with the Holy Prophet (sa) and listened to his talks and

ahadith all day. Hazrat Abu Hurairah (ra) was also among these companions. The Holy

Prophet (sa) used to sit with them, eat with them and urged people to respect and honor the

Ashab-us-Suffa.

It is narrated that they once complained to the Holy Prophet (sa) that our stomachs have

become sick of eating dates since this is all we receive. The Holy Prophet (sa) responded that

do you not know that this is the food of the people of Medina and this is how they facilitate

us. By Allah, it has been more than one or two months since food was cooked in my own

house.

When these companions were educated, they were sent to train different people and to

teach them Holy Quran. Similarly, in the era of Khilafat, they were given high posts. For

example, Hazrat Abu Hurairah (ra) was appointed as the Governor of Bahrain by Hazrat

Umar (ra).

The Promised Messiah (as) also received a revelation about Ashab-us-Suffa:

“The Company of the Lounge, and how would know what the Company of the Lounge is? You

see their eyes streaming with tears. They call down blessings on you.”

Another companion of the Holy Prophet (sa) was Hazrat Ubada bin Samit (ra). He was part of

both first and second Bait-e-Uqba in Mecca. About 181 ahadith have been narrated by him.

About Bait Uqba, Hazrat Ubada narrates that the Holy Prophet (sa) said to us: Take my Bai’at

upon this promise that you will not associate any partner with Allah, you will not steal,

you will not murder your children, you will not level false charges against each other, and

you will not disobey me in anything Maroof (good). Whosoever among you fulfills this

promise, his reward is with Allah.

It is mentioned about Hazrat Ubadah bin Samit that he was once appointed over taking care

of Sadaqah. The Holy Prophet (sa) advised him that you should always fear Allah and never

commit any dishonesty. I fear that this wealth of Sadaqah becomes a burden over you on the

Day of Judgment. Hazrat Ubadah (ra) replied: By Allah, I do not even wish to be appointed as

guardian over two people.

Hazoor Anwar (aa) also announced the funeral prayer of Arif Tahir sahib who passed away of

Cancer on August 26, 2019 in UK. He showed immense patience during his sickness. By the

grace of Allah, he has served in high posts in Pakistan. Before passing away, he was working

as president of Fazl-e-Umar Foundation. His father was also a Missionary of Jama’at. Arif

Tahir sahib was an author of various books. He was regular in Tahajjud prayers and

possessed deep knowledge of the books of the Promised Messiah (as). May Allah grant him

forgiveness and enable his children to stay attached with Jama’at and Khilafat with absolute

devotion! Ameen
