POSITION DESCRIPTION

This is an Executive level position and will be appointed on a four year contract.

STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIESThe Deputy Principal has the role of deputising for and assisting the College Principal in leadership and management of all aspects of the College, consistent with the mission and vision of the College, its policies and directives including the College’s ‘Articles and Memorandum of Association’. The Deputy Principal will be responsible for the ongoing Pastoral Care and Wellbeing of all students, working with Year Level Coordinators and Teachers as required. The Deputy Principal’s chief responsibility will be the oversight of the daily running of the College.

TEACHING RESPONSIBILITIESThe Deputy Principal may have a minimal teaching load, as negotiated with the Principal.

ROLE OVERVIEWStaff Leadership

• Collaboration with the Principal and Director of Teaching and Learning (DT&L) regarding all aspects of College improvement, specifically focussed on providing a safe and collaborative learning environment.

• Liaison with the staffing committee regarding recruitment and induction of teachers and Education Support Officers (Teacher Aides).

• Deputising for the Principal as and when required. P-12 Responsibilities

• Oversight of all matters to do with the organisation and management of the College calendar.

• Management of the whole College timetable including ESO roles and responsibilities, and staff absences.

• Oversight and promotion of co-curricular activities, particularly music, sport and extra-curricular clubs/activities run by staff.

• The establishment and maintenance of a positive College culture amongst staff and students, including:

• High expectations of behaviour, dress code/uniform, work ethic and personal interaction;

• Ensuring that effective systems to support behaviour development and good order are implemented and supported (including Responsible Thinking Process);

• Ensure Student Support Services (staff and programs) provide coordinated wellbeing and learning support for students.

• Leadership of all teaching and ESO staff, fostering a Christian, collaborative and professional culture focussed on learning and wellbeing outcomes for students, by ensuring:

• Appropriate policies, guidance, and support to enable all staff to meet expectations; • Conducting annual performance appraisals and under-performance management

processes with ESOs and Year Level Coordinator middle leaders. (Teachers appraisals are conducted by DT&L).

• Ensuring the smooth operation of the College, including appropriate policies, procedures, guidance and operations for:

• The academic reporting processes (shared with DT&L); • Parent/teacher events, parent information evenings and other events in the life of

the College (shared responsibility with DT&L); • Collecting, recording, and monitoring student attendance data and addressing

attendance issues; • Excursions, incursions, and other variations to normal routines, including risk

assessment and management (risk assessments managed by WH&S Officer). • Oversight of teaching staff allocations, timetables, and related responsibilities. • Ensuring that parental concerns and queries are managed and monitored. • Other duties as may be allocated by the Principal from time to time.

Leadership Team Responsibilities • Report to the Principal:

• Work with Senior Leadership Team – regular meetings to discuss strategic and operational matters.

• Supported by an Executive Assistant. • This position supervises:

• Director of Teaching & Learning; • Year Level Coordinators; • Sport Coordinators (Primary and Secondary); • Education Support Officers (Teacher Aides).

• Chair the Student Wellbeing Team Meetings (usually weekly). • Reflect and represent the views of the Principal to the College community. • Support, promote and contribute to the College’s Strategic Plan. • Attend College functions and activities with a generosity of spirit, modelling support for

the College. • Represent the College and the Leadership Team in a professional manner. • Provide innovative, Christian, effective and ethical leadership. • Ensure that the Principal is fully briefed of significant developments relating to their key

areas of responsibility. • Be well read in the Bible and Christian thinking. • Be aware of educational leadership theories and current research. • Pursue positive connections with all past, present and potential members of the College

community.

SELECTION CRITERIA

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTSThe successful applicant must:

• Possess a degree or post graduate qualification in education; • Hold, or be eligible for, teacher registration in Queensland through the Queensland

College of Teachers.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIAYour suitability for the role will be assessed using the following criteria:

1. Personal Christian commitment, church involvement and ability to lead with a Christian world view;

2. Demonstrated ability to strategically lead College-wide improvement and innovation utilising current research and evidence;

3. Demonstrated ability to manage a diverse range of school operations, including timetables, student and staff wellbeing, extra and co-curricular activities, academic reporting and to deputise for the Principal as required;

4. A willingness to work collaboratively with the Senior Leadership Team, College staff, parents and students in order to establish and maintain productive partnerships and improved learning outcomes;

5. Demonstrated ability to support students in behaviour development, promote a focus on College vision and values, and seek to foster a Christ-honouring culture within the College;

6. Demonstrated commitment to developing self and others.
