Good Luck Teams! Welcome to South Metro Destination Imagination’s 2016 Creativity Celebration! Thanks to all the teams, Team Managers, teachers, school sponsors, Appraisers, volunteers and parents for your hard work to make this tournament possible. The top 3 elementary teams, the top 3 middle school teams, and all of the high school teams that present their solutions at this tournament will advance to Colorado Affiliate Finals on Saturday, April 9 at the Auraria Campus in Denver. Additionally, because of the large amount of South Metro teams registered in these challenges/levels, we will send an additional 3 teams for Pace of Change – Elementary Level and an additional (1) team in Get A Clue – Elementary Level to the Colorado Affiliate Tournament. Acknowledgements A special thank you goes to all the South Metro schools and school districts that support the Destination Imagination program and encourage their students to learn/use creative problem solving strategies and teamwork skills. Tips to Ensure a Fun and Successful South Metro Tournament Experience

Arrive early so your team and parents can become oriented to the building and the places your team needs to be. Paperwork: Every competitive team needs to bring 2 signed copies of the Declaration of Independence, one Expense Report and 5 copies

of their Tournament Data Form. We suggest that your team brings two sets of this challenge paperwork. Have the paperwork arrive in two different cars in the care of trusted team members or parents. This way if one gets stuck in traffic or has to turn around and pick something up, at least some team members can check in on time.

Unloading: There are unloading doors noted on the attached map. There is plenty of parking all the way around the building. Please do not park where teams will be unloading/loading. Please tell your families and friends to be considerate of teams unloading props.

Interference: Tournament officials are trained to stop interference when it is witnessed at the tournament. This is to keep the tournament fair for all teams competing. Please let your parents know that even seemingly innocent or unintentional interference is not allowed. We do give friendly warnings but if non-team members cannot keep their hands or ideas to themselves, we will be forced to make deductions to the team’s score. Have a team and parent Interference meeting to remind everyone how important this rule is to the competition.

Prep Area: The check-in officials in the Prep Area want your team to get as many points as possible so we carefully go over all of your team’s solution and paperwork. The Team Manager needs to be with the team in case they need help to clarify the team’s intended solution. Other parents and supporters tend to add an unnecessary level of anxiety that teams do not need as they are trying to focus on giving Prep Appraisers challenge related information. Please have your parents/supporters find a seat in the audience to wait while the team is prepping.

Instant Challenge: Instant Challenge is on the second floor and accessed by the stairwell just to the south of the main entrance. Only team members and one Team Manager are allowed in Instant Challenge rooms or check-in area. Parents and supporters should wait for the team in the cafeteria. The team will join them there after IC is finished. Please tell your parents not to wait in the halls or stairwells. Halls should be kept clear for teams to access their sites with props.

Pick Up Raw Scores: You can pick up your Raw Scores from your Head Appraiser in your Team Challenge 45 minutes – 1 hour after your Team Challenge Performance. Notification that scores are available for pick-up will be posted outside the Performance Site. Instant Challenge scores are only reported with the final scores that are handed out after the awards ceremony Saturday evening, March 5.

Tournament Etiquette and Sportsmanship: Please respect our host school and the other teams competing in the tournament. Do not go into areas that are not labeled for tournament use. Please do not touch classroom equipment and supplies. Running and horseplay should be taken outside. South Metro DI teams and supporters should stay in the cafeteria and gym area after 5:30. There is another event happening in the auditorium in the evening so parents should park on the east side of the building for the Dance Party and Awards Ceremony. Deductions for unsportsmanlike behavior can be determined at any time including after the Awards Ceremony.

DI Store: Pin, shirt, water bottle and Dance Party light-up sales all contribute to our fundraising for teams from South Metro that qualify for Global Finals. Support our teams and take home some awesome DI stuff!
