Newsletter No. 13 27th July 2016
From the Principal ………..
Dear Parents,
Coach Approach today for the Years 3 to 6 stu-
dents, mixed netball final for a Year 6 team on
Monday and a girls T-ball final today, along with
our usual physical education classes with Mr James
Feather and running club on Tuesday, Thursday
and Friday. It’s been a busy sporting week!
All families should have received an email through
Compass that next Friday, 5th August is Olympics
Day. This is a student led initiative to celebrate the
opening of the Rio Olympic Games. A country was
randomly selected for every class at assembly two
weeks ago. The list is as follows: FC - Canada
FH - India
FS - Russia
1S - Jamaica
1W - United States of America
2G - Mexico
2P - Australia
3G - Japan
3S - Greece
3MK - China
4H - France
4P - Switzerland
4W - Turkey
5C - Italy
5J - Germany
6A - Brazil
6D - Great Britain
6T - New Zealand
All students are encouraged to wear the colours of
their allocated country on this day.
A number of staffing changes are to take place this term.
Mrs Hayley Wilson and her husband, James are expecting their first child. Hayley has only been with us
for a short time but has made considerable contributions to the school as a dedicated classroom teacher
and taking on the role as the ‘Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden’ coordinator.
We wish Hayley and James all the very best for their journey into parenthood. It is such a special time.
Hayley’s last day will be next Friday. Mr Steve Donohue was the successful applicant for Hayley’s fami-
ly leave position and he will now be the replacement teacher for the rest of the year for 4H. We have been
very fortunate to have been able to retain Steve at our school. He is most valued and professional staff
member. A casual relief teacher will be appointed to cover the class of 1S for the remaining two weeks of
Mrs Kathy Skantzos’ long service leave.
Mrs Robyn Hunter, after 25 years of dedicated service to the school as our business manager has an-
nounced her retirement. Robyn’s last day will be Friday 7th October. Robyn will certainly be sorely
missed. She has an enormous historical knowledge of the school and knows everything’ financial’ about
not just the school but the idiosyncrasies of the department’s financial processes. Robyn has given won-
derful service to the school. I personally will miss her enormously. Robyn has been such a great mentor to
me, teaching me all about the finances of schools.
However it is now time for Robyn to be able to travel whenever she and her husband, Rod wish and enjoy
more special family times with their children and grandchildren.
Every four years, a detailed review is conducted in every Victorian State Government school. 2016 is a
school review year at Wattle Park Primary School. School reviews provide an independent analysis of a
school's performance against the goals and targets in their strategic plan. The formal review also evaluates
the school's strengths and the impact of its improvement efforts. It provides an opportunity for all mem-
bers of the school community to contribute to the vision and direction of the school for the future.
As part of the review process, we would like your feedback.
You are invited to attend a parent forum on Tuesday night the 2nd of August from 7pm until 8pm. Please
see attached flyer.
Notices were sent home yesterday for the upcoming 3 & 4 camp to Camp Arrabri and in September a
group of five Year 5 & 6 students are travelling to our sister school in China. Orientation night for our
2017 Foundation students is scheduled for Thursday 8th September. And next Monday is 1st of August!
Where has the year gone?
Enjoy your weekend everyone.
Regards Gayle
