01. Plain Weave

A basic weave, utilizing a simple alternate interlacing of warp and filling (warp) yarns. Each filling yarn passes successfully over and under each warp yarn, alternating each row.

Any type of yarn made from any type of fiber can be manufactured into a plain weave fabric.

Structure: Each filling passes alternately over under each warp in a square pattern.

Appearance: Flat, no distinct design unless yarn have contrasting colors of thicknesses.

Properties: Easily produce; maximum yardage, inexpensive, relative durability depends on yarn count and balance, adaptable for printing and other finishing process.

Typical Fabrics: Batiste, Cheesecloth, Cretonne, gainham, percale, voile.

02. Satin

In a satin weave structure the weft (horizontal) threads float over the tops of groups of warp (vertical) threads creating a smooth and shiny cloth.

Structure: Four (or more) shaft with warp floats in interrupted diagonal.

Appearance: Compact, smooth, interrupted diagonal, discernible with magnifying glass.

Properties: Luster, excellent, drapabillity, floats subject to snagging.

Typical fabric: satin, slipper satin, crepe back satin.

03 Twill Weave:

One of the basic weave structures in which the filling threads are woven over and under two or more warp yarns, producing a characteristic diagonal pattern.

Structure: Three (or more) shaft warp or filling floats over two or more counterpart yarns in progressively stepped up right or left direction.

Appearance: Left or rig hand diagonal, variations provide chevron (herringbone) crock, screw, hounds tooth, or other design, enhance by colored yarns .

Properties: Strong, Firm texture,increase drapability and resilience,interesting design,may devolop shine.

Typical fabrics: Cheviot, covert, denim,drill,foulard,gabardin,serge,surah,tweed,wipcord.

Dobby weave:

A decorative weave, characterized by small figures, usually geometric, that are woven into the fabric structure. Dobbies may be of any weight or compactness, with yarns ranging from very fine to coarse and fluffy. Standard dobby fabrics are usually flat and relatively fine or sheer. However, some heavyweight dobby fabrics are available for home furnishings and for heavy apparel

A weave that has a pattern that requires the use of a dobby mechanism during weaving.

A figure weave produced by an attachment on the loom that weaves an extra set of yarns into a simpler background weave. Dobby fabrics usually have small birdseye, dot or other geometric patterns.

Structure: Small, geometric designes composed of short floats created by dobby loom attacment.

Appearance: Decorative designes often with corded effect which may give textured surface.

BASKTE WEAVE

Definition: Basket weave is a variation of the plain weave in which yarns seem to approximate the woven look of a plaited basket. Two or more warp yarns ride over and under two or more fill yarns, giving a basket weave like texture.

Structure: Two or more warps simultaneusly interlaced with one or more filling giving balanced structure.

Apprearance: Variation of plain weave, basket or checkboard pattern , contrasting colors often used, attractive.

Propertise: Inexpensive, drapable,some what flixeble and resilint, absorbent, less durable then plain weave,soils more easily.

Typical Fabrics: Monk's cloth, oxford.

Oxford weave fabrics are made with modified plain weave or basket weave and are generally used for apparels, particularly cotton shirting materials. The fabric is fine, soft and lightweight.

Ribbed Weave

One of the plain weave variations, which is formed by using: 1) heavy yarns in the warp or filling direction, or 2) a substantially higher number of yarns per inch in one direction than in the other, or 3) several yarns grouped together as one. Rib fabrics are all characterized by having a slight ridge effect in one direction, usually the filling. Such fabrics may have problems with yarn slippage, abrasion resistance, and tear strength. Examples of this construction include broadcloth, poplin, taffeta, faille, shantung, and cord fabric.

Apprearance: Variation of plain weave ribs or cords provide texture and design.

Structure: Four (or more) shaft with filling floats in inturrepted diagonal.

Structure: Extra set of warps or fillings woven over ground yarns of plain or twill weave to form loops.

Apprearance: Three- dimentional effect formed by yarns entering perpendicularly into the ground weave

Propertise: soft,warm, resilient, absorbent, iinteresting,surface effact.

Typical Fabrics: Cut and uncut, pile fabrics, Ranging from toweling to rugs.

Apprearance: Soft, brushlike surface, may have rows of cut pile.

Apprearance:soft, though rougher than cut pile, loops apparent and close together, covering ground weave, loops may be on both sides.

DOUBLE CLOTH WEAVE

Structure:2 fabric of independent weaves woven together with extra set of yarns

Structure: Pairs of warps twisted over each other with each passing,filling.

Structure: small designs interwoven on surface of fabric with extra filling
