Two Pinch Pots Joined to make a Hollow Sphere

• Start with two 1 pound balls of clay.• Make two pinch pots at the same time. • When you stop, put the pinch pot

down on its rim (lip).• Try to keep the walls and

the bottom even and smooth.• Keep pinching until they

are both ¼ inch thick.

• When the two pinch pots are finished they should be about the same size and shape.

• Score and slip both rims.• Gently wiggle the two rims

together and trap the air inside.• Gently pull the outside

clay over the bottom pot.• Continue to trap air inside the sphere.

Two Pinch Pots Joined to make a Hollow Sphere

• When you have closed the sphere and smoothed the seam, tap it with the paddle to remove lumps.

• Gently move it into the shape you want for your box.

• If there is too much air inside, and the clay won’t go into the shape you want, pierce it with a needle tool to release some air.

Two Pinch Pots Joined to make a Hollow Sphere

Use the paddle tool to smooth and shape your double pinch pot.

You should have an idea of the shape you want at this point.

Where will your box open?
