Brooksby Hall - Brooksby campus

BMC is situated on two campuses and is well served by a range of buses and trains which makes for simple and easy access. BMC aims to ensure learning opportunities are available and accessible to all of our students wherever you live. This guide will also help staff members to choose their mode of transport; we hope you find this guide useful, informative and helpful when planning your journey to BMC.

Leicestershire’s Choose How You Move campaign helps people to get fit, save money, have fun and help the environment.

Walking to BMCWalking is a great way to stay healthy, help the environment and save money!Walking to BMC can help you keep fit and healthy.

Both campuses benefit from good pedestrian links within the surrounding areas, which allows people to find their way to campus easily and safely.

Walking 1 mile in 20 minutes uses as much energy as:

Running a mile in 10 minutes

Cycling for 16 minutes

Aerobics for 16 minutes

Weight training for 17 minutes

Further information is available from:

www.leics.gov.uk/index/highways/passenger_transport/choosehowyoumove/walking.htm

Cycling to BMCCycling is fun and good for you, so get on your bike!Cycle facilities are provided at both campus; including cycle parking, lockers and changing facilities.

Cycling is one of the most environmentally friendly and sustainable modes of travel as well as being fun and good for you.

Cycling is a great way to exercise, it has a low impact on your joints and each two-mile trip can burn over 100 calories.

Tips for safe cycling

Be bright – make sure drivers can see you. Wear brightly coloured clothing and use lights when cycling at night.

Give warning - ride predictably and indicate to motorists before changing direction or turning

Wear protection - cycle helmets are recommended for safe cycling

Maintain your bike – look after your bike and make sure it is safe to cycle

Melton MowbrayBus Map & Guide

August 2013

This guide has been published in partnership between Leicestershire County Council and the main bus operators in the county, as part of Leicestershire’s Bus Information Strategy (BIS). The BIS is there to assist people in finding out information about bus services.

The maps show the bus services in Melton Mowbray and the main departure points in the centre of the town. You will find a summary of the service and frequencies in the table overleaf. Our Bus Map & Guides are regularly updated online, visit www.leics.gov.uk/transport_downloads. Online updates will only occur if services change. Please note infrequent and single directional services not contained in this guide may exist, you can obtain more detailed information on the bus services including the full timetable from a number of sources; but the main place to find out details is from the traveline service by phone on 0871 200 22 33 (Calls cost 10p per minute plus network extras) or on the internet at www.travelineeastmidlands.org.uk. In addition you can get timetables for your area from local libraries, tourist information centres, local council offices and bus company travel shops. You will also find large displays showing route maps and timetables in the bus shelters on Windsor Street and St Mary’s Way.

Studies have shown that the typical commuter who car shares saves over £900 per year. How much could you save?

Car sharingWhat is the real cost of running a car? Is your car as cheap to run as you think? It is often very easy to overlook the real cost the running of a car. As well as the cost of fuel, there are all the hidden extras such as car tax, car insurance, MOT test, breakdown cover, servicing parts and repairs. You may never have considered car sharing, however you could halve your fuel costs, reduce stress and CO2 and make new friends.

The ideal car sharer could be sat in the next office or classroom and you have no idea! We are currently considering an initiative to promote car sharing within the college. You never know...it could be you!
