This is our biggest worry,” Cristina finishes. “The Tk’emlúps indian band gym was great to get us going and learn skill but now it is much too small to scrimmage in. it is much too dangerous since out of bounds are the walls and bleachers. once the ice goes back in the arenas, we are without a home. we need a space at least 80' x 100', wide open, and ideally concrete floor.”

The Kamloops search and rescue (Ksr) society is a vital volunteer, com-munity-based non-profit organization that proudly dedicates itself to providing an important life saving service to the public, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. (Ksar) is a registered society and operates with a core of some 30 longstanding members from all ages and walks of life. in addi-tion to its search and rescue activities, Ksr regularly participates in a number of community events, and members also present public information and education programs throughout the year to schools, youth groups and others.

Ksr is searching for something else these days – a place to call home. Ksr has been in limbo for almost a year, since it had to vacate its old hall across from the riverbend seniors Community in

brocklehurst at the end of 2010. The City of Kamloops let the Ksr temporarily use a heated storage building on Mission Flats road, but that location isn’t suitable, as it doesn’t have office space nor is there room to perform training exercises.

david Freeman, the City’s real-estate manager, has publicly stated that the City has been in discussion with Ksr. however Ksr is a provincially funded agency not included in the city’s opera-tion, and it is Kamloops Fire rescue that is funded to do the rescue work within municipal boundaries. another part of the problem is that Ksr requires nearby access to water.

Kamloops airport has had some prelim-inary talks regarding space for a regional air-rescue operation, so perhaps a solution for Ksr could be included.

you know that a business has been doing things right when they have been doing it for 25 years. anna harrison and gina Caputo are embarking on their 25th year in business at genesis Fashion & beauty Complex and they couldn’t be happier. The fashion clothing store and beauty Mecca have been partners since the very beginning, and the pair wouldn’t have it any other way.

“we have always been togeth-er,” explains anna. “we love the fashion business and with gina being a hairstylist and me spe-cializing in esthetics, it all goes hand in hand.”

genesis Fashion & beauty Complex has everything you need and want to make your-self feel good. They put a lot of thought into everything that goes into the store including the cloth-ing itself, jewellery and each ser-vice they offer.

“we try to get as much Cana-dian-made clothing items as we can,” furthers anna. “we work with a lot of designers from back east as well as a few from here on the west Coast. That also goes for our jewellery lines as well. we try to support as many Canadian-made artists as possible.”

Chances are if you are look-ing for clothing and fashions that will make you sparkle and stand out in a crowd, genesis is the place to go. The word “gene-

sis” means to come into being, a beginning, or origin of anything and this word describes the fash-ion and beauty house complete-ly.

“when it comes to servic-es, our team is definitely our strength,” she says. “we provide many unique services that aren’t available at a lot of other places. we have ten talented staff mem-bers who specialize in a number of different services. we are like a family and when you come in you are coming into visit old friends and family. a lot of our clients have been coming for 25 years and after that long you def-initely build strong family-like

connections and relationships.”Their hair salon and spa is also

operating at the top of its game. some of the specialized services it offers include their Thai stem Massage as well as Cosmetic Tattooing. each practitioner has received extensive training and is highly skilled. The genesis fa-cials are also very popular as are their hair services and traditional spa services.

in this life i’m a woman. in my next life, i’d like to come back as a bear. when

you’re a bear, you get to hibernate.

you do nothing but sleep for six months. i could deal with that.

before you hibernate, you’re supposed to eat yourself stupid. i could deal with that too.

when you’re a girl bear, you birth your children (who are the size of walnuts) while you are

sleeping and wake to partial-ly grown, cute, cuddly cubs. i could definitely deal with that.

if you’re a mama bear, every-one knows you mean business. you swat anyone who bothers your cubs. if your cubs get out of line, you swat them too. i could deal with that.

if you’re a bear, your mate expects you to wake up growl-ing. he expects that you will have hairy legs and excess body fat.

yup, i’m gonna be a bear!

FOR SALE - Riding Lawn Mower. My wife had always wanted a riding lawn mower. She works all day and was always tired when she came home and thought that a riding lawn mower would help her get the yard work done quicker so she would have more time for the chores inside the house. So, being the handy sort of guy that I am, I made her a riding lawn mower. I guess I thought she would squeal with delight or something and give me a big hug. To this day I have never been able to understand why some women are so hard to please.

intrigued, a man walked over, bought a paper, and checked the front page. what he saw was yesterday’s paper. The man said, “hey, this is an old paper, where’s the story about the big swindle?” The newspaper boy ignored him and went on yelling out, “read all about it. Twenty six people cheated.”

Fine job searching skillsa few weeks after a young man had

been employed, he was called into the human resources administrator’s office. “What is the meaning of this?” the personnel officer asked. “When you applied for this job, you told us

you had three years experience. now i have discovered this is the first position you’ve ever held.”

“True,” the young man answered with a smile, “in your advertisement you said you wanted a person with imagination.”

Canadians love golf as much as anyone else, but they’re a strange lot. They insist that their golf carts have drink-hold-ers for their beer, they believe that formal golf attire means an ironed hockey jersey, and that a bogey is something that hangs off the end of your nose.

Q: why did the Canadi-an golfer lose in the golf tournament?

a: because he didn’t bring his “eh” game.

Q: why are there so few Canadians in professional golf?

a: because it’s too hard to take a wrist shot with a nine iron.

Q: why do Ca-nadian golfers stop play-ing when they get to 9

How Does YOUR Hearing Look?At a glance, hearing loss isn’t always this obvious. But it is the fastest growing, and one of the most prevalent, chronic conditions facing Canadians today. Many times hearing loss develops unnoticeably over several years. Most people compensate for the very gradual changes by asking others to re-peat themselves, turning up the volume of the TV, or even avoiding group conversations altogether.

But, allowed to continue, these habits may mistak-enly make you believe that it’s not your problem. With over 55 years of experience, we have the knowledge and understanding to get you back in the conversation. Let our team of experienced professionals help you find a better way to hear, that’s right for your lifestyle.
