    The session will start with a brief summary of modernhistory of mediation and a quick review of mediationmodels/approaches, such as facilitative, transformative,evaluative, restorative, distributive, and multipartial, andthe ethics that inform mediation underpinning each.

    Sam will introduce some differing concepts of truth andthe ethical tensions that may be raised. The narrative-focused technique of multipartiality will be presented.In role play practice, participants will explore the ethical

    issues that a multipartial mediation session may present.In group discussion, participants will share insights andlearnings, comparing the strengths of the stances ofneutrality and multipartiality.

    About the Presenter:Samuel Gerszonowicz has over 25 years of consultingexperience in a variety of management and conflictresolution settings, including negotiating conflictresolution within and between multicultural diverse

    peoples, both in the workplace and within disadvantagedcommunities.     Presenter Sue McCarthy will introduce the RestorativeCircles approach to facilitating community mediations. Basedon the work of Dominic Barter, this approach relies heavily oncultivating reflective listening among the participants. After aintroductory presentation, Sue will demonstrate the RCmodel, by inviting the participants to participate in a semi-simulated circle exercise.
