Dringhouses Cricket Club
History
• Dringhouses Cricket club was founded around 130 years ago
• Cricket has been played at St Helens Road for over 80 years
• Ground formalised in 1942
• Colonel George Alexander Eason Wilkinson • Inherited Dringhouses from his family
• Left a lot of land in Dringhouses to CYC
• for the benefit of Dringhouses residents
• Land at St Helens Road left to be used as long as a Cricket Club exists
• Dringhouses Cricket Club now have a 99 year lease from CYC
Teams
• 1st Team – York & District Senior League – Division 1 - Mid table
• 2nd Team – York & District Senior League – Division 4 – Top of table • Awaiting details of promotion to Division 3
• 7 of this team are under 17, 5 are under 14
• Youth Teams – there are a number of young teams
Regulations
• Covered under ECB rules (English Cricket Board)
• Also local Divisions Rules
• Current pressure from ECB and York & District Senior League to • Improve facilities
• Changing rooms
• Scoring (Electronic Scoreboards & use of Internet reporting)
• Training facilities
• Engage more with young players
• Develop Womens cricket
• Have to be able to demonstrate improvements to maintain accreditation
Ward Grant Application
• To improve facilities – provision of an Electronic Scoreboard
• To encourage younger members to participate
• To encourage greater participation of families
• Application for £2500 of a total of £3100
Benefits
• Enables DCC to modernise and keep up to date with ECB requirements
• Enables scoring to be done via a WIFI link
• More interest with young members wishing to take up scoring
• Enables club to attract more members
