DSP ALGORITHMS AND ARCHITECTURES

Objectives: Upon completion of this course, the students will have detailed knowledge of design

of DSP algorithms, modeling and synthesis of DSP systems using VHDL, VLSI implementation of

algorithms

Module I

DSP representations (block diagrams, data‐flow, signal flow graphs, dependence graph),

fixed‐point DSP design, filter structures, Modeling in HDL System modeling and performance

measures.

Module II Pipelining and parallel processing, retiming, Folding, Unfolding, Systolic architecture,

Arithmetic Circuits (Multiplier, divider), Multiply-Accumulator (MAC), Distributed Arithmetic,

Computation of special function, CORDIC architecture

Module III

Fast Convolution : Cook – Toom algorithm, winograd algorithm, FIR filters: Parallel FIR filters,

FIR filter using DA, IIR Filters: Parallel, pipeline IIR filters, Fast IIR filter

Module IV

Bit level arithmetic architectures: Bit-Serial Multipliers, Bit-serial filter design, Discrete Fourier

Transform algorithms, FFT algorithm, Fast Discrete Cosine Transform, Adaptive filters.
