Stage 3 drought project. Todays schools - ‘Creating Tomorrows World’. What an exciting theme for Education Week 2018. To help highlight the amazing work our students are capable of in regard to creating tomorrows world, all of stage 3 will be working towards becoming mini entrepreneurs and raising funds for a worthy cause - our farmers. All of Stage 3 will be working on an Inquiry Based Learning project about drought and its impact both locally and nation wide. Students will take their learning further by creating projects to not only raise awareness but also funds for our locals farmers. Through our literacy and geography sessions students will not only learn but also problem solve. During Term 4 it is hoped that in collaboration with other schools and local businesses we can gather funds, raise awareness and show support for the backbone of our country. If you or your business are interested in helping please let a Stage 3 teacher know. Stay tuned for exciting upcoming events. Lets create a better, more sustainable tomorrow’s world together. Happy education week!

P&C News Here are the highlights from last week’s P&C meeting: Nicole Drew and Sally Gesler talked about the fantastic work being done with targeted indigenous students in 3-6 in literacy and numeracy. Renae Giddings also explained about a number of the programs the school has to support learning for a large number of students in need of various kinds of aid. After discussion, the P&C were pleased to allocate a donation of $18,000 to the school for Bee-bots coding resource for K-2, Maths resources for classrooms, a new Smartboard for the library similar to those in the kindergarten rooms and music resources for percussion and singing.

MC News On the 31st of July the OMG calendar on Mr Tarry’s desk said that “Bacteria can grow and divide every twenty minutes. Turning one bacterial cell into 16 million in just eight hours.” Mr Tarry asked us to check and see if the maths was right. With the help of Mrs McGrath we worked out that the best way to do the maths was to figure out how many lots of 20 minutes were in eight hours. This turned out to be 24. So we doubled our number twenty four times and that gave us the answer 16,777,216. That is a lot of bacteria. Emma Woodbury and Cooper Fabar K/6D have been learning the art of mosaic with Mrs Thompson & Megan. We had a great time making our frames and they turned out fantastic. NAPLAN

NAPLAN online will be carried out between 20th Au-gust and 24th August. The readiness test is a ‘practice run’ for schools to participate in a trial NAPLAN online. Education Ministers have agreed that NAPLAN will move online in 2019. This readiness test is not an assessment of student ability—students in Years 3 and 5 have already completed their NAPLAN tests for 2018. This experience will offer students the opportunity to experience the online testing environment. Year 3 and 5 students will sit a literacy/numeracy online assess-ment. Not all students will sit the test simultaneously. Remember this is a readiness test only! For further in-formation please go to http://www.nap.edu.au/online-assessment/naplan-online

Make your next call to the wild! We are still collecting electronic devices!! Last term, our students in Stage 2 researched Colton Mining and the detrimental impact it has had on gorillas. Students found out about these endangered animals and decided that they must do something to help. They worked extremely hard to develop a persuasive video to encourage all of our school community and residents of Dubbo to donate their old and unwanted electronic devices. You can check this video out on our school’s Facebook page. The video script was constructed by using the students writing and clever ideas. PLEASE DROP OFF YOUR UNWANTED ELECTRONIC DE-VICES TO DUBBO SOUTH PUBLIC SCHOOL. MAKE A DIFFERENCE!! Mrs Drew
