Earlscli!e o!ers day trips on Wednesdays and Sundays, half-day visits to Ashford Designer Outlet or Folkestone on Saturday a#ernoons, and evening bowling or cinema trips. Earlscli!e is well-located, with London and the many cultural destinations in Kent and Sussex within comfortable travelling distance. All trips are supervised and students given a pre-trip briefing.

An Earlscli!e highlight is our weekly trip to London (Capital Wednesday™) when over the course of the summer we visit many of the following famous London landmarks: Tate Modern; the London Dungeon; the London Eye; the Natural History Museum; St Paul’s Cathedral; the British Museum and Buckingham Palace. On Capital Wednesdays™ we use the high-speed train link from nearby Folkestone Central station which has a journey time of 55 minutes.

Our Mini-MBA™ students visit the Bank of England Museum and Europe’s tallest building, The Shard. Uni-Prep students will also visit universities in London and Oxford. On Sundays we may visit: the world-famous cathedral city of Canterbury and take a river boat tour; Leeds Castle and Bluewater shopping centre; Thorpe Park theme park and Hastings, including Adventure Golf. Students will be given some free time in small groups.

Earlscli!e o!ers a balance of sports, cultural events, arts and cra#s, fun games, walks and competitions, so there is something for everyone on the programme. Our sta! organise and supervise all these activities. Older students may use the fitness centre in the nearby sports centre unsupervised, a#er an initial introduction to the facilities.

Students play volleyball, basketball, badminton, billiards and table tennis on-site. Our supervised a#ernoon and evening activities include karaoke nights; football; so#ball; Earlscli!e’s Got Talent; swimming; themed disco nights; tennis; rounders; ‘Jeux sans Frontières’ and quiz nights, to name but a few. Regular daytime and evening beach walks are a popular part of the week’s activities.

These sports and activities are o!ered from mid-a#ernoon, a#er the day’s lessons have finished. We are fortunate to be close to both Folkestone’s town centre and its shops, the artistic Creative Quarter, the beach and seafront, all of which o!er our students moments of discovery and relaxation. We use the excellent facilities provided at the Three Hills and Folkestone sports centres.

Earlscli!e does not use host families. All students live in our own residences, supervised by our sta!. The four residences are located within a few minutes’ walk of both the main building and the School House classrooms. All our buildings were originally built between 1870 and 1910, with four being late Victorian in style and two being Edwardian. All have been refurbished between 2012-2016.

Girls and boys live in separate, supervised accommodation areas. Most rooms are spacious twin or triple rooms with en-suite WC and shower. All rooms are Wi-Fi connected. The accommodation is a"ractive: modern, light rooms within historic façades. Earlscli!e is an ‘in-town’ campus of six buildings within a few minutes’ walk of each other, meaning that students can easily walk between classes, meals, accommodation and activities.

Meals are taken in the college dining room and prepared by our own chef and team. Meals are varied and o#en international, such as Chinese, Mexican or Indian, but not forge"ing the occasional British fish and chips! Formal dinners every two weeks (including one traditional English Christmas meal!) give our students a chance to dress up and enjoy a three-course meal by candlelight. Any special dietary needs can be catered for including vegetarian, non-dairy etc. Students are given packed meals on day trips.

Earlscli!e Summer 1514 Earlscli!e Summer

Themes: Weekly UNESCO debate: pollution; climate change; education; clean water; women’s rights. Weekly topical debate: hunting; animal testing; euthanasia; capital punishment. ‘In the News’ forum: discuss the media stories of the day. Advanced reading comprehension: discussion of a topical article from ‘The Times’, ‘The Economist’ and other popular news publications. Extended Writing: instruction on academic essay writing, both creative and reflective.

Critical thinking: if you wish to achieve higher academic grades, being able to take an informed and analytical approach to your studies is very important. Simply memorising and explaining concepts and ideas does not show real understanding and application. You need to be able to demonstrate knowledge of your subject and give your opinion(s) supported by evidence that you have judged to be appropriate. Project time: make a film, a news clip or a radio show as a group and present it to the whole school. Trips: students learn about the various cultural destinations they will visit, and write a trip review of a town or site visited.

‘ I enjoyed my time at Earlscli!e. It was my best summer experience! In Earlscli!e I loved everything from the food, to activities and lessons. I will come again – 100%!’ Saveliy, Russia
