ECITB in collaboration with Step Change in Safety introduced the
MJI model in 2012 of training and validating skills in the
specialist critical bolting area. The 5 MJI approved training
courses are derived from the ECITB Mechanical Joint Integrity
training standards with 5 Work Based Task Assignments and 5 MJI
ECITB Technical Tests.
These training standards cover isolations, dismantling techniques,
inspection of components, alignment techniques and clamp connectors
as well as assembly and tightening techniques in specialist
critical bolting.
THE 4 STAGE ECITB/STEP CHANGE IN SAFETY MJI MODEL
MECHANICAL JOINT INTEGRITY (MJI)
ECITB’s approved training providers can offer 5 MJI training
courses ranging from 1 day to 2.5 days: · Hand Torque Bolted
Connection Techniques · Hydraulically Torque Bolted Connection
Techniques · Hydraulically Torque Bolted Connection Techniques
Module · Hydraulically Tension Bolted Connection Techniques ·
Hydraulically Torque and Tension Bolted Connection Techniques
Learners are not considered technically competent at Stage 1
These courses are grant aided for ECITB registered employers
STAGE 1 ONSHORE TRAINING CENTRE
The learner uses the Work Based Task Assignment to consolidate
knowledge and skills in the workplace under supervision.
ECITB MJI Approved Course “Training Certificates” are valid for a
12-month period only for Stage 3 technical testing application
purposes and must be supported by Stage 2 ECITB MJI “Work Based
Task Assignment(s)” completed within the same 12-month period. If
the 12-month training to technical testing period elapses, the full
MJI process must be attended again from Stage 1.
Technical Testing with an associated ECITB certificate of
achievement plays a key role in validating an Individual’s skill,
ability and job knowledge in a specific task area. Each test
consists of a knowledge test and practical activity test against
identified test criteria.
These tests are grant aided for ECITB registered employers.
Computer Based Training -Atlas has developed 4 ECITB Approved MJI
computer based training courses aimed at existing workers who
require refreshing or updating their knowledge before taking the
