o Explorers -- a person who travels in search of new geographical or scientificinformation

o Native -- a person born in a particular place or country4. Play the vocabulary matching game on the board with the class. Place the definitions

on one side of the board and the words on the other side of the board. Have one

person from each desk group come up and try and match the word with the

    definition.

    5. Discuss with students what question they might want to ask the guest speaker after hispresentation. Have the students think about what we learned at the museum and

come up with questions that might help them better understand Native American life

and culture before European contact, along with the attributes of Native American

nations in the Nevada area. Also, the interactions of early explorers with the Native

    American cultures.

    6. Have the students write their questions down on their paper.7. Have the whole class discuss each of the questions. Make sure that the questions are

relevant to the type of Native American life, culture, attributes of the Nevada Native

American people prior to European contact and after European contact. Make sure

that each student has at least one question to ask the speaker.

    8. CLOSURE: Today we learned different vocabulary words to help us understand theculture, life style and attributes of Nevada Native Americans. Collect the questions

that the students will be using tomorrow for the guest speaker. Hand out a vocabulary

worksheet that the students will work on independently.

    F. Assessment: What will you use to measure student understanding?

I will assess the questions that the students wrote and discussed in class. This will allow

me to assess if they are connecting what they previously learned at the museum about

the Native Americans in Nevada and what they would like to know more about. I will

also assess the vocabulary that they learned today relating to Native American

    culture.

Explain how you will know students understand the concepts from the lesson.By evaluating their questions I will know if they are connecting what we learned

yesterday at the Nevada State Museum with what they should learn tomorrow from a

    Nevada Native American guest speaker.

    G. Reflection:1. Which part of the lesson do you think will be the easiest for you to teach?

I think that it will be easiest to teach the students to ask questions that are relevant

    to the lesson.

    2. Which part will be most challenging for you to teach?I think that the vocabulary will be the most challenging to teach because some of

the definitions might be difficult for the students to comprehend.

    3. How will you follow up or extend this lesson? We will follow up this lesson tomorrow with our guest speakerChief Sleep Easy.

    4. What will you do for students who dont grasp the concepts? If the students do not grasp the concepts, we have a review each day of this unit. I

will also follow up the vocabulary lesson with some homework to support the

    vocabulary words.

    5. Which part of the lesson, if any, do you think might need to change? If the students are not grasping the vocabulary words, I might need to come up

with an inventive way to get the students more engaged.

    6. When you were writing this lesson plan, what was the most difficult part?Trying to make sure that the objective of the day and the standards are all being

    met together.
