    3. The students will then get the paper titled What is a compass?. The papergives the students an idea of what a compass is. The teacher will go over thecardinal directions and how they fall on a compass. At the bottom of theworksheet the students will fill in the compasses. They can work in pairs. Theteacher will walk around the classroom during this time.

    4. The next worksheet they are going to work on is called North, South, East, orWest?. The students will complete the worksheet individually. Once theycomplete that worksheet the teacher will instruct them to complete problems 1-4 on Am I Turning in the Right Direction? The teacher will walk around the

classroom during this time.5. Once the class has completed the teacher will collect the worksheets, only the

ones that needed to be completed.

    6. There is one last worksheet called Can I make a pretend compass? Thestudents will not complete this but the teacher will point out that there aremore spaces than just north, south, east and west. The teacher will tell thestudents to try to look into those directions when they get home.

    7. CLOSURE: The students will review the first worksheet (Do You Know YourDirections?) The teacher will check for understanding. If there is a littleconfusion, the teacher will go over that at that time.

    F. Assessment:

What will you use to measure student understanding?

The teacher will use the completed worksheets to measure studentunderstanding.

Explain how you will know students understand the concepts from thelesson.

If the students can successfully complete the worksheets, they understand thecardinal directions. Also, the teacher will be walking around the classroom whilethe students are completing the worksheets, so she can check forunderstanding then.

    1. Which part of the lesson do you think will be the easiest for you toteach?

I think that the easiest part of the lesson will be at the end of the lesson

when the students have become familiar with the cardinal directions, so

they should be able to fill out the worksheets correctly.

    2. Which part will be most challenging for you to teach?

I think it would be the most challenging to teach the cardinal directions,

student may get very confused about them.

    3. How will you follow up or extend this lesson?

Some of the worksheets talk about the other directions (northeast,

southeast, etc.), so the teacher can begin to go over those.

    4. What will you do for students who dont grasp the concepts?

The teacher can spend some one on one time to better help the students.

    5. Which part of the lesson, if any, do you think might need to change?

I think that the lesson might be too worksheet orientated. So, there may

need to be more hands on activity

    6. When you were writing this lesson plan, what was the most difficult

    part?

The most difficult part was trying to figure out in what order the worksheets

should be completed. They should not be in any order because some

worksheets fall perfectly after another and it would not make sense to do

    them randomly.
