    A. Summary of the Lesson Plan :The students will name the current Mayors of Las Vegas, Henderson, North Las Vegas and

    Pahrump in a matching game. They will create a campaign poster that will express thegood qualities of a leader.

    B. Target Population: Grade Level: 3 rd grade Skill Level: All levels Grouping:

    o Whole group-Matching game and discussion on leader qualitieso Small group-Campaign poster and presentations

    C. Materials: Matching game of Las Vegas leaders White board and markers Social Studies Journal Poster boards both for poster and definitions Markers Colored pencils

    D. Objectives: NV State Social Studies Standards

    o C14.3.2 Name the current mayor of the town.

    o C15.3.1 List the qualities of a leader.

    Student-Friendly Standards

    o I can name the current mayor of Las Vegas, Henderson, North Las Vegas andPahrump. I can list qualities of a leader.

    E. Procedure: 1. Students will write this question in their Social Studies journal.

    o Who is the Mayor of Las Vegas, Henderson, North Las Vegas and Pahrump?

    2. Display pictures of several leaders in Las Vegas with name cards .

    3. Have the students play a matching game to learn who the local leaders are.

    4. After all the leaders have been matched correctly discuss who the Mayors of LasVegas, Henderson, North Las Vegas and Pahrump. Display their pictures and nametags in the middle of the white board. Have the students answer the opening questionin their Social Studies journal.

    5. Discuss with the class what the qualities of good leaders consist of.

    6. List the qualities on the white board.

    7. Define any qualities that students might not understand. Write definitions on poster boards and display in word bank on wall.

    8. Explain that each team is going to create a campaign poster for one of Las Vegasleaders. Each team will discuss what they think the most important leadership qualitiesare. They will display these qualities on their campaign poster and will defend whytheir team thinks they are the most important qualities.

    9. The groups will present their campaign poster and explain their important leadershipqualities.

    10. CLOSURE: Today we learned who the Mayor of Las Vegas, Henderson, North Las Vegasand Pahrump are, along with other important leaders. We also discussed importantqualities of good leaders. We will hang the campaign posters in the hallway by our classroom.

    F. Assessment: What will you use to measure student understanding?

    I will assess the students knowledge of the Mayor of Las Vegas, Henderson, North LasVegas and Pahrump by looking at the answer to our opening question. I will assess thestudents knowledge of important leadership qualities by each groups campaign

    poster and presentation of poster. Explain how you will know students understand the concepts from the lesson.

    I will know that the students know who the Mayor of Las Vegas, Henderson, North LasVegas, and Pahrump are by assessing their Social Studies journal and the openingquestion of the day. I will assess if the students know the qualities needed of a leader through their group presentation and campaign posters.

    G. Reflection:

    1. Which part of the lesson do you think will be the easiest for you to teach?I think that the students will enjoy playing the matching game. I think because it willbe fun the matching game will be the easiest part of the lesson to teach.

    2. Which part will be most challenging for you to teach?

    I am not sure if the students will know what a campaign poster is. I might need toshow them examples of this before having them make one.

    3. How will you follow up or extend this lesson?

    I will follow up this lesson by discussing tomorrow why people form groups anddifferent things that influences people to form opinions.

    4. What will you do for students who dont grasp the concepts?

    If a student does not understand who the Mayor of Las Vegas, Henderson, NorthLas Vegas and Pahrump are I will show them the picture again and explain what aMayor does for a city. I will also try and help them make a personal connection toqualities they think a good leader should have.

    5. Which part of the lesson, if any, do you think might need to change?

    I might want to add an example of what campaign poster look like and why theyare presented the way they are.

    6. When you were writing this lesson plan, what was the most difficult part? I think coming up with an engaging way to have the students do a tactile activityon this subject was the most difficult part.
