B. Summary of the Lesson Plan : This social studies lesson is for 2nd grade students to learn the types of social groups to which people belong in a community. This lesson will be completed using a list of interview question to interview a member of the community.

C. Basic Information: Grade Level: 2nd grade Time to Complete this Lesson: Approximately 50 minutes Groupings: Whole group discussion, partners for discussion, independent work for

assessment

D. Materials: • Journal• pencil

• List of interview questions

E. Objectives: o NV State Social Studies Standards

G7. 2.4 List types of social groups to which people belong o Student-Friendly Standards

F. Vocabulary Interview – a meeting face to face hobby- an activity done for pleasure in one’s spare time social group- members of a community all working together for a particular cause

G. Procedure: 1. Review the list of social groups to which people belong to in the community

2. Explain the concept of social groups

3. Call students’ attention to the features of an interview

4. Identify & discuss some of the elements of conducting an interviewo Have students conduct an interview with member of a social group in the

community and write questions answers in their journalso Interview questions

Where were you born? What are some of your hobbies?What social group do you belong to?What are some of the activities that your social group does for the

community?

5. Introduce vocabulary (interview, hobby, social group)

H. Assessment: What will you use to measure student understanding?

I will have the students write answers to interview questions in their journals Explain how you will know students understand the concepts from the

lesson. Students must have all the answers to the list interview questions in their journals

I. Closure: Brief discussion about the different social groups they learned about during their

interviews

J. Reflection: 1. Which part of the lesson do you think will be the easiest for you to teach?

I think the easiest part to teach will be explain the vocabulary words2. Which part will be most challenging for you to teach?

I think the part of the lesson most challenging to teach would be getting the students to understand what social groups are and what they do for the community.

3. How will you follow up or extend this lesson?For a follow up lesson I would have the students list some of the social groups they would like to a part of and why.

4. What can you do for students who don’t grasp the concepts?

For students who do not understand the lesson, I would review the lesson and ask if they have ever been in girl or boy scouts and explain that is an example of a social group

5. Which part of the lesson, if any, do you think might need to change?The part of the lesson I would change is I would have members of a particular social group come in to the classroom and explain what their social group do for the community.

6. When you were writing this lesson plan, what was the most difficult part?The most difficult part of the lesson was finding the correct NV State Standard for my lesson.
