Human Festa in Kameyama Beginning of December Taiganji 太巌寺(wisteria) One of the most popular wisteria view- ing spots in Mie prefecture. The tree is about 130 years old. It is adorned with prominent more than one-meter-long flower clusters. Beginning of May Kameyama Misoyaki-udon 亀山みそ焼きうどん(Noodles) Countless full-bloomed cherry trees adorn Kan- nonyama Park within the Suzuka Quasi-National Park. Various events are held there. Kannonyama Haru Matsuri 観音山春まつり Beginning of April Shoboji Sanso-ato Local specialties Editing/Publication 正法寺山荘跡(Cherry trees) It is a site of the castle of the feudal lord who governed this region. This important historical site was designated as a national cultural property of Japan in January 1981. Today, the castle is a famous cherry blossom viewing spot with some 200 cherry trees, and attracts numerous visitors. Beginning of April Sekijuku Natsu Matsuri 関宿夏まつり It is a traditional event that continues since the Edo Period. The parade features four beautifully decorated floats. At its peak, sixteen such floats competed over the extravagance of their deco- rations, and paraded through the narrow streets of Sekijuku (one of the 53 stations of the Tokaido Highway, today located in Kameyama). From this, the expression “seki-no-yama”, which means “the best one can do” , was born. End of July Kameyama-shi Noryo Taikai 亀山市納涼大会 A wide variety of events are held including dances performed by local residents, lottery, stage shows, etc. There are also numerous stalls selling refreshments, and the event is bustling with visitors. Beginning of August Seki j u k u Noryo H a n a b i Taikai 関宿納涼花火大会 Approximately 2,000 fireworks are set off and a dazzling display of fireworks lights up the night sky. The event is held on the banks of Suzuka River near the Seki Fire Department. Numerous stalls selling refreshments are erected, attracting crowds of visitors. End of August Hanashobu Matsuri 花しょうぶまつり Some 20,000 iris flowers of nearly 100 varieties are grown on an area of 4,000 square meters in the park. 正法寺山荘跡(Cherry trees)It is a site of the castle of the feudal lord who governed this region. This important historical site was designated as a national cultural property of Japan in January 1981. Today, the castle is a famous cherry blossom viewing spot with some 200 cherry trees, and attracts numerous visitors.

Beginning of April

Sekijuku Natsu Matsuri 関宿夏まつりIt is a traditional event that continues since the Edo Period. The parade features four beautifully decorated floats. At its peak, sixteen such floats competed over the extravagance of their deco-rations, and paraded through the narrow streets of Sekijuku (one of the 53 stations of the Tokaido Highway, today located in Kameyama). From this, the expression “seki-no-yama”, which means “the best one can do”, was born.
