Shooting PrecautionsThelensutilizesasteppingmotortomovethefocuslenswhenthepowerisswitchedonandduringzooming.1. Initial focus lens resetting operationsThelensperformsaninitialresetofthefocuslenswhenthecameraisswitchedon.Whenthelensisattachedtothefollowingcameras*,aninitialresetwillbeperformed,aswhenoperationisresumedfromanautopoweroffstate.
●● Thelenswillmoveinandoutoffocusduringinitialreset.2. Lens sleep modeWhenthecameraisON,thelenswillenterthesleepmodeinordertoconservepowerifitisnotoperatedforacertainperiodoftime.Thelenswillalsoconstantlybeinthesleepmodewhenthecamera’sautopowerofffunctionisineffect.Thefocuslenswillnotbeoperatedwhenthelensisinthesleepmode.

●● Afterdetachingthelens,placethelenswiththerearenduptopreventthelenssurfaceandcontactsfromgettingscratched.
●● Contactsthatarescratched,soiled,orhavefingerprintsonthemmayresultinfaultyconnectionsorcorrosion,whichmayleadtomalfunctions.Ifthecontactsgetsoiled,cleanthemwithasoftcloth.
●● Attachthelenscapanddustcapwhendisconnectingthelens.Whenattachingthedustcap,alignthelensmountindexwiththeindexofthedustcapandrotateinaclockwisedirectionasshownintheillustration.Followthereverseproceduretodetachit.
Toshootinautofocus(AF)mode,setthefocusmodeswitchtoAF.Touseonlymanualfocusing(MF),setthefocusmodeswitchtoMF,andfocusbyturningthefocusingring.
WhenAFoperationissetto[ONESHOT],manualfocusispossibleafterautofocusinghasbeencompletedbycontinuingtopresstheshutterbuttonhalfway(Full-timemanualfocus).Therearetimeswhencamerasettingchangesarerequired.
●● Quicklyrotatingthefocusingringmayresultindelayedfocus.
●● FocusingbyrotatingthefocusingringisnotpossiblewhenthecameraisOFF.

●● Besuretofinishzoomingbeforefocusing.Zoomingafterfocusingcanaffectthefocus.
●● Blurringmaytemporarilyoccurifthezoomringisquicklyrotated.
●● ThelenswillmoveinandoutoffocusifthezoomringisrotatedwhenthecameraisOFF.
●● Zoomingduringstillimageexposurewillresultindelayedfocus.Thiscausesanystreaksoflightthatarecapturedduringexposuretobeblurred.
TheEW-63Choodcutsoutunwantedlightandprotectsthefrontofthelensfromrain,snow,anddust.Toattachthehood,alignthehood’sattachmentpositionmarkwiththereddotonthefrontofthelens,thenturnthehoodasshownbythearrowuntilthelens’reddotisalignedwiththehood’sstoppositionmark.Thehoodcanbereverse-mountedonthelensforstorage.
●● Ifthehoodisnotattachedproperly,vignetting(darkeningoftheperimeterofthepicture)mayoccur.
●● Graspandrotatethebaseofthehoodwhenattachinganddetachingit.Therearecasesinwhichitmaybecomedeformedifthehoodisrotatedwithitgraspedneartotherim.

YoucanusetheimagestabilizerinAForMFmode.Thisfunctionprovidesoptimalimagestabilizationdependingonshootingconditions(suchasshootingstillsubjectsandfollowingshots).
1 Set the STABILIZER switch to ON.●● Ifyouarenotgoingtousetheimagestabilizerfunction,settheswitchtoOFF.
2When you press the shutter button halfway, the Image Stabilizer will start operating. ●● Makesuretheimageintheviewfinderisstable,thenpresstheshutterbuttontherestofthewaydowntotakethepicture.
●● TheImageStabilizercannotcompensateforablurredshotcausedbyasubjectthatmoved.
●● TheImageStabilizermaynotbefullyeffectiveifyoushootfromaviolentlyshakingvehicleorothertransportation.
●● TheImageStabilizerconsumesmorepowerthannormalshooting,resultinginfewershotsandashortermovieshootingtime.
●● Whenshootingastillsubject,itcompensatesforcamerashakeinalldirections.
●● Itcompensatesforverticalcamerashakeduringfollowingshotsinahorizontaldirection,andcompensatesforhorizontalcamerashakeduringfollowingshotsinaverticaldirection.
●● Whenyouuseatripod,theImageStabilizershouldbeturnedofftosavebatterypower.
●● Evenwithamonopod,theImageStabilizerwillbeaseffectiveasduringhand-heldshooting.However,dependingontheshootingconditions,therearecasesinwhichtheImageStabilizereffectmaybelesseffective.
●● TheimagestabilizerfunctionalsooperateswhenthelensisusedwithanextensiontubeEF12IIorEF25II.
●● TheImageStabilizerwilloperateevenwhenyoupressthebuttonassignedtotheAFfunctionwiththecamera’sCustomFunctions.
