EFL TEACHER YOU NEED TO BE: Eligible to work in the UK and over 18 years old.

YOU SHOULD

HAVE:

Ability to use different strategies for effective classroom management & commitment to student-centred learning.

Ability to develop and adapt materials to suit students’ needs.

Willingness to use a variety of teaching strategies and methods.

Commitment to the welfare of students.

Commitment to fostering supportive and encouraging learning environment in which teacher manages cultural differences.

Flexibility, adaptability and ability to cope with changing priorities.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

YOU MUST: Be a native English speaker or have a near native level of English. Have either a degree, a CELTA, Trinity TESOL and / or QTS in English or a Modern Foreign Language. Other TEFL qualifications may be accepted if they have been validated by an external body and include a minimum of 6 hours observed practice.

Experience of working on a junior residential programme.

Applicants will be shortlisted solely on the extent to which they meet these requirements.

Students attending our summer centres are aged 8 – 17 and typically receive 15 hours of English language tuition per week and a comprehensive programme of activities and excursions. OI Junior Programmes provides course books and teachers’ books which are the foundation for planning and teaching. As an EFL teacher you are responsible for delivering engaging EFL lessons from the OIEG Junior Syllabus, in line with the standards set out in the Teacher ’s Handbook.

ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN EFL TEACHER

A brief meeting with the Director of Studies

Teach 9-10:30 & 11 - 12:30.

Catch up with your co-teacher over lunch

and brief each other on your shared classes

and responsibilities.

Teach 14-15:30 & 16-17:30.

Complete your class records/attendance.

Catch up with your co-teacher; plan for the following day together; individually or with other teachers; find a Senior Teacher to clarify any admin tasks / timetable and / or get some lesson planning guidance. Please note that the teaching times given may differ to meet the operational demands of individual centres.

Attending staff meetings.

Undertaking administrative tasks (e.g. maintaining class register & work records, completing student reports etc.) as delegated by the Director of Studies.

Teachers will take on up to two extra-curricular sessions within the working hours set out below.

Attend the staff induction days.

Take part in all Health & Safety related training.

Carry out risk assessment as directed.

Be a positive and professional role model for the students, representative of the high standards and core values of OIEG.

Prepare lessons & adapt existing materials to suit students’ needs and abilities.

Deliver lessons with the aim of achieving the objectives of the syllabus and to the standards set out in the Teacher Handbook and / or syllabus.

Effectively manage students and their behaviour.

Encourage student participation in being positive and enthusiastic about activities in which they are involved.

Agree to be observed by the Director of Studies , an Academic Manager or a Group Leader.

Dress appropriately at all times.

LEGAL STUFF: This job description summarises the purpose of the job and lists its key tasks. It is not a definitive list of all the tasks to be undertaken as those can be varied from time to time at the discretion of the Centre Manager. OIEG is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. As part of our Safer Recruitment policy you will be asked to explain any gaps in your work and education history. You will be required to undergo an Enhanced DBS Disclosure or overseas equivalent if you are based outside of the UK. You will need to provide the details of at least 2 referees, who will be asked specifically if they have any concerns about your suitability to work with children. Evidence of entitlement to work in the UK will be required at interview.

HOURS: Up to 42 hours per week including 30 hours of classroom time and 12 hours of admin and extracurricular duties. Due to the nature of the programme some evening and weekend work will be required. All teachers will have 2 non-consecutive days off in 14 days.
