Synod Wheaton 2018 Greetings from Chicago Heights, Illinois! Last month, I served as a delegate and a displayer at the URC Synod. At Wheaton College, there was a concurrent URC Synod - OPC General Assembly from June 11th- 15th. It was a rare opportunity to see ministers and elders from URC churches as well as reconnect with friends from the OPC. One of the highlights of Synod is joining our voices together in song. This Synod was historic since we sang for the first time from the Trinity Psalter Hymnal. The agenda for Synod included overtures concerning missions, marriage, the appeals process, and our ecumenical relations with

Faith URC Beecher, IL
El Pacto de Gracia is under the oversight of Faith URC in Beecher, IL. Every Sunday an officer from Faith URC attends the Spanish service. We praise God for the oversight and support of Faith URC.

El Pacto de Gracia also receives support from neighboring URCs (Oak Glen URC, Lynwood URC, Community URC, Redeemer URC). Representatives from each of these churches serve on the JVC.

Reformed denominations. Throughout the week, we enjoyed joint devotional time with the OPC. We also learned about the church planting efforts and international missionary endeavors both in the URC and OPC. El Pacto de Gracia had a display table which featured a tri-fold display, brochures, flyers and literature as a way to inform the delegates of the Spanish ministry.
During these summer months, El Pacto continues with its various outreaches and evangelistic efforts. On Tuesday mornings, we have our weekly English class using the Bible League curriculum. The class meets in the city of Lansing. We are thankful for our volunteer teachers as well as our partnership with PASS (crisis pregnancy center) and First Church in order to offer this class. Please pray for the salvation of our students. On Friday mornings, we are continuing our Bible study which meets at the coffee shop owned by one of our regular visitors. Our study is an overview of Biblical history with special attention given to the various covenants in the Bible.
The month prior to Synod I was invited by Divine Hope Reformed Bible seminary to teach and preach at Danville Prison. It was a blessing to minister to the Spanish-speakers at Danville. I taught an English class as well as a class on hermeneutics. Towards the end of the day, I led their mid- week Spanish chapel service. The men were respectful and responsive to the teaching they received.
As we continue to labor in this harvest field, we are thankful for our supporters, volunteers and prayer partners. We covet your prayers for the Spanish ministry and for our family. Please pray for my wife, Leah, and our five children (Evangeline, Sophia, David, Jonathan, and Carmen-Cristi).
