“Future Leaders Learn Here!” Elementary School November 2016 Dear Lafayette Families, As November is a time intended for giving thanks, I would like to take this opportunity to thank our Lafayette parents, guardians, and families for encouraging and supporting our students’ education by checking homework, communicating with teachers, participating in school events, and the countless other things you do! Our students learn the value of education through your continued support, and we value your partnership. Our upcoming Parent/Teacher Conferences provide a great opportunity for you to continue this partnership by getting informed about what our students are learning this trimester and how your child is progressing. If you have not already done so, please reach out to your child’s teacher to schedule your conference. Along with supporting school at home, I encourage all of our families to get involved with the PTO. There are many ways you can contribute! Lafayette extends a special thank you to all of the parent volunteers who helped last month with the Book Fair and Halloween Party, and for all the donations for the party! All of your help is greatly appreciated! In order to help our students become successful in their learning, it is also important that students arrive to school on time and ready to learn. We also encourage parents not to take vacations during school days, as regular attendance is important to a child’s academic success. As always, the staff at Lafayette Elementary School thanks our Lafayette families for your continued support. Warmest Regards, Ms. Weber ! Each month, Lafayette recognizes a different character trait to highlight the importance of demonstrating character as a member of our school community. Students are recognized for the many ways they show exceptional personal character as they show what it means to be a Lafayette Leader within the school and outside in the Bound Brook community! As traits are introduced, they are added to the puzzle on display in the school as a visual reminder of the different "pieces of our character."

November is RESPONSIBILITY Month!

These children’s books emphasize the theme of responsibility and are great for a read aloud at home with your child. Check out these books at the Bound Brook Public Library!

WALKING SCHOOL BUS

Thank you to all the staff and students who joined us on the November 1st chilly morning for our last Walking School Bus of the fall! We will resume the events again in the spring and hope to see everyone there!

PRINCIPAL’S CHALLENGE Since 1989, National Young Readers Week has been an annual event held during the second week of November to

raise awareness around the importance of reading. The event was co-founded by Pizza Hut and the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress.

Principals across the country are being challenged to become shining examples for literacy by choosing one day to read their heart out all day long, from first bell to the last during National Young Readers Week. Ms. Weber will be taking on this challenge and reading her heart in the gym, hallway, classrooms, and even the front of the school and blacktop if weather permits on Monday, November 7th! Classes will drop by for a read aloud with Ms. Weber!!
