I taught Elena at The Animation Workshop several times over the course of her degree program. In every class and every subject—which ranged from story to cinematography to creative direction to live action filmmaking—she was attentive, dedicated, and showed a flair for communicating visually with intent. Not only does Elena work hard and follow through, she takes critique well and always strives to improve both her skills and the resulting material. Consistently, she shows strong instinct for story, staging, composition, and camera work. Elena is also fun to work with, enthusiastic, and generous in her support and encouragement of others. She is a great team player as well as a strong and capable leader. This past year, I have been mentoring her as the director of a graduation film. From its initial concept to its current state of production, Elena has held on to her vision, articulated it clearly, listened to her teammates and mentors, and stayed focused on the meaning, characters, and emotional arc. She shows great potential for storytelling through sequences, staying aware of building arcs and editorial flow. As a long-time and accredited director of photography, both in camera and staging and in lighting for CG animated features (including ‘Toy Story 2’, ‘Finding Nemo’, ‘Arthur Christmas’ ‘Ballerina’), I have a keen interest in identifying students with an aptitude for camerawork, character staging and choreography, and previsualization. Since it is so rarely taught as a discipline in schools, I have been impressed to see Elena’s interest and tenacity in pursuing this rich and worthwhile craft. Recommendation for Elena Felici

To whom it may concern

I met Elena in may 2019. She was one of the students attending a workshop that I taught at The Animation Workshop, Viborg, Denmark. The students were asked to create and animate a short sequence featuring two characters having a physical interaction. Elena chose to show an unwelcome hug and a push-back. Her concept was creative and ambitious, and it enabled her to show her skills on both body mechanics and subtle acting.

Interacting with Elena in the classroom and watching the result of her work, I can attest that she shows a dedication to perform at her best at all times. She focuses her attention on the details that turn an animation from good to excellent. She is curious of new knowledge, she asks pertinent questions, listens with great interest and carefully applies everything with valuable creative additions.

On a personal level, she’s a pleasure to teach. Always professional in her behaviour, positive and eager, yet discreet, she also proved multiple times that she was a great support for her classmates by being empathetic to their struggles and providing constructive feedback.

I have no hesitation in recommending Elena for an internship in the best studios. She will make the most of learning in a professional and high-quality environment, while offering her best work on the task that she is trusted with.
