CLOSE UPClose up shots are used in every type of film, to show the actors/actresses facial expression and reactions to certain moments.In horror movies, this shot is most generally used to show shock or when someone is scared or nervous. I can also be used to show when an actor/actress gets hurt, to show the injury if it is on a certain body part.

HIGH ANGLE

A high angle shot is mostly used to show that one character is inferior to the other; its shows that they are completely powerless and vulnerable.

TILTED In horror movies, tilt shots can be used in various different ways. One way in which it can be used is to act as the victim on the floor, to see what they are seeing.

It can also be used to add dramatic tension to shots, and show an act happening from different perspectives.

TRACK OR PANThese shots are used to show movement. They are usually used to follow a character that is running, or to show a character is being followed and/or watched.

These shots enable lots of tension to be built, as you do not know what you are going to come across at the end of the pan.

EXTREME LONG SHOT

These shots are usually used to establish a setting in any sort of movie. It is also used to show a vast amount of area

In horrors it could be used to show a large woodland or an abandoned city.

LOW ANGLE

Low angles are used to show a characters superiority at that particular moment. It can emphasise how scary or threatening the bad guy is.

POINT OF VIEW

This shot will allow the audience to see through the eyes of the character. It can create a higher amount of tension, as the audience member would become as scared as the character themselves at that moment, as you can see what they are seeing.

HANDHELD CAMERA

Shots like these are usually used in horrors, when a group of friends go out into the woods to film some sort of documentary.

It is similar to the POV shot as it makes you seem as if you are filming.

ZOOM

Zoom is usually used to put emphasis on something, to show something gory such as an injury.

This shot also allows tension to be built, as you may not know what is going to come at the end of the zoom.

OVER THE SHOULDER

This shot creates suspense and tension. It is usually used to show that a character is being followed my the audience member using POV. These are most commonly used during conversations between two characters.
