MANNA FROM HEAVEN NEWS2

We greet you in the matchless name of Jesus and we glorifyHim for all He is doing in the lives of His people, and in thisbranch of Zion, called Eleva on. My fellow readers, I pray that you will be inspired by this edi on of Manna FromHeaven News. In it you will fi nd ministry refl ec ons from 2010 and a glimpse of what’s to come this year. It even causes me to reminisce on what I shared at the 2010 New Year’s Eveservice. Just as God transi oned us from one year to another, I decreed that God’s people would “Endure to the End in 2010.” In spite of economic downturns and a reportedly bleakfuture, I spoke a word of hope to an awai ng congrega on.Just as Hebrews 10:35-36 instructs, I encouraged Eleva on’sdisciples and guests to hold fast to their confi dence and bydoing so, would be richly rewarded. I further encouraged them to persevere in the will of God so they would receiveHis promises. You see, God doesn’t work by man’s calcula ons.He is sovereign and He reigns supreme over all the earth.

I was excited about 2010 for “10” represents perfec on, divineorder, and completeness. I believed that God would endure His people in the face of tribula ons. I was preparing myself for God’s manifesta on and on September 11th it came to pass. Phase I of the Eleva on Vision unfolded with the opening of the new edifi ce, Eleva on East. It contains a worship center,

From the Pastor’s Penprayer tower, bookstore, administra ve wing and a host of classrooms. Prior to that ceremony, God laid it on my heart to invite His people to come in and write prayers on the altar, before placing the carpet. It too, was a me of worship aseach person penned their pe ons to God on behalf offamilies, ministries, jobs, marriages, etc. Now, with eachpassing Sunday, Eleva on disciples and guests are walkingacross those prayers, in faith.

During this past year, the Holy Spirit directed Elder andme to transform our weekly bible study sessions into Empowerment Nights. On several occasions, we have invited na onally renowned bishops and pastors, who have brought a transforming and prophe c word. Currently, Eleva on is studying from the book, Stepping Out on Faith, a publica on inspired by the Holy Spirit and co-authored by Elder and me. Copies are available in the bookstore so go by and pick up copy today!

Saints, if you are faithful, God will reward you. We have experienced it fi rsthand. To expose our faithfulness, I want to share with you a special moment in our lives. On November 10th Elder Carmichael and I received Honorary Doctorate of Divinity Degrees, conferred by Bishop Zamekio Jackson, from St. Thomas Chris an College, Jacksonville, Florida. We were both humbled by his descrip on of us as spiritual sculptors and vowed to con nue exposing God’s word and working diligently in His Kingdom.

Here at Eleva on the mission is evangelism and we are serious about winning souls for Christ. In 2011, we kicked off the Harvest for the Souls Campaign because God wants His house to be fi lled. According to Luke 14:23, “And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be fi lled.” We must be about our Father’s business because we are truly living in the last days and believers have a mandate on their lives to spread the gospel (Good News) to a sinful and dying world.

In 2011, we are walking under an open heaven and we are living with great expecta ons: for saving souls, good health, transformed minds and a spirit of perseverance! Won’t you join us in the charge to “compel them to come?” God is looking for laborers for the harvest is plenteous.

Blessings and Peace,Drs. T. L. and Rebecca Carmichael

On September 12, 2010, forty months of planning and prepara on culminated when Eleva on Bap st Church unifi ed the Trinity Services with one morning worship service at its new Eleva on Bap st Church Campus. Eleva on Bap st Church disciples and guests pa ently waited with an cipa on for the inaugural service at the EBC East Campus. When the sanctuary doors opened congregants entered in awe of the fulfi llment of God’s Vision. Congregants praised and worshipped corporately during the 10:00 a.m. service which began with the sign of praise ministry followed by the choir.Later during the service Pastor T.L. Carmichael, Sr., brought forth a message en tled, “Nobody’s Greater Than You (God),” referenced Psalm 14- emphasizing verse 3. Pastor enlightened disciples

as to why they needed to Praise God for Redemp on (vs. 3); Compassion (vs. 8); Kingdom Authority (vs. 11); and God’s Faithfulness (vs. 14). The spoken word reminded believers to give God uninhibited praise for what He has done in their lives.During his moments of refl ec on Pastor Carmichael expressed God’s vision of evangelism for EBC disciples. He recounted how for three years servant leaders, deacons, trustees, ministers, staff and lay persons faithfully labored during three services each Sunday un l the comple on of the new facility. The worship service concluded with Pastor Carmichael’s family joining him in the pulpit. Pastor’s 86 year-old aunt led the congrega on with a spirit fi lled rendi on of her favorite song “I Love to Praise Him.”

Pastor T.L. Carmichael and Reverend Dr. Thomas Walker

Wednesday, March 10 through Sunday, March 14, Eleva on Bap st Church disciples celebrated Pastor Carmichael’s 12th Pastoral Anniversary and his 20 years of pastoring. The fes vi es began on Wednesday when the EBC Praise Team performed an Evangelism skit en tled “Redeemed.” The skit was centered around a pastor’s vision of evangelism and saving souls, where he launched a 90-day campaign to save 1,000 souls. In the skit the pastor ques oned why God gave him such a great vision, but his wife encouraged him by telling him God was pleased with what he was doing.

Saturday, March 13 the church hosted an elegant dinner honoring Pastor and Elder Carmichael. The evening service began with musical selec ons by recording ar st Marshe a Parker and the Victorious Praise Fellowship Band. The Carmichaels expressed their apprecia on for a wonderful dinner celebra on. The evening concluded with Elder Carmichael and Marshe a Parker singing “I Love You Jesus.”

Reverend Dr. Thomas Walker from Ebenezer Bap st Church in Rocky Mount, NC, was the guest speaker for Sunday’s service. Walker brought the message en tled “One Day at a Time – Peas in the Pot.” He stated there were fi ve Ps members should remember when refl ec ng on Pastor Carmichael. Those Ps were: Pray, Praise, Protect, Partner, and Pay. Unlike many pastors who are given a vision, Walker commended Pastor Carmichael’s faithfulness. Members were reminded that faith untested is not true faith at all.

Deacons’ OrdinationOn Wednesday, October 20, Eleva on ordained its newest deacons: Michael Holmes (Terri), Harold Ransom (Shannon), John Sanders (Yve e), and Andrew Stephenson (Kimberly). Pastor T. L. Carmichael, Sr. led the deacons in their charge, no ng God affi rms deacons. Acts 6:7 (Amplifi ed Bible), “And the message of God kept on spreading, and the number of disciples mul plied greatly in Jerusalem; and [besides] a large number of the priests were obedient to the faith [in Jesus as the Messiah, through Whom is obtained eternal salva on in the kingdom of God.” The charge was not just for the deacons but their wives who must measure up as well.

Pastor Carmichael indicated the role of a deacon is a serious assignment that is not understood by all. Deacons carry the weight of the glory; therefore, they must push and press toward the mark of God. This new journey is designed to build them up and not destroy them. Two key a ributes for a deacon are: salva on and family.

Pastor Carmichael further described characteris cs of a deacon:• serve the disciples of Eleva on - minister to the sick, hurt and broken-hearted• represent the Pastor under his authority when he is not available• promote evangelism and unity; a deacon is not a gossiper• does not allow gossip to manipulate where he is going• follows and supports the visionary• serves the Lord’s supper• is a model ci zen• a family man (loves his wife and children)• is a faithful and sincere man• lives by faith• truthful in love, honest and has a good reputa on• makes monthly contact with his cell group• believes in thing, • has a teachable spirit• is willing to train and lead others to Christ• is a serious man, • is dependable, • not a badge of honor but a servant

Pastor and Elder Carmichael anointed the hands of the deacons and their wives who have been predes ned to carry out their God-given assignments.

Ministers LicensedColin Adams (Shaunté) and Michael Noel (Tina) were licensed on Wednesday, October 20 as ministers under the leadership of Pastor T.L. Carmichael, Sr. Minister Adams spoke on “Your Des na on is Worth the Trip” referencing Ma hew 14. He indicated every journey we take needs prepara on. First, every journey should begin with prayer. Next, start packing with things we need for the journey “gas up on the word of God.” Finally you need pa ence and endurance for the journey, which is ed to our measure of faith. Minister Noel’s message was “A Close Encounter of the Third Kind”, from Exodus 3: 1-6, Acts 2:1-4 and Acts 9: 1-6. He explained the “encounter” is our contact with God and knowing that we are not alone.

In 2010, par cipants of Eleva on’s Couples’ Ministry studied Gary Smalley’s book, “Making Love Last Forever.” Married and engaged couples learned how to discover the good in every trial by turning “Sand Storms Into Pearls.” Couples discussed the ques ons why does God permit us to go through trials, what was accomplished by Jesus’ suff ering, and how can our trials become pearls?

Other discussion topics were:Confl ict Doesn’t Have to Hurt Scripture: Ephesians 4:26. Confl ict in marriage, while inevitable, does not have to hurt. Healthy confl ict and anger can lead to in macy.

Guard Your Tongue, Save Your Marriage Scripture: Proverbs 18:21. The power of life and death for a marriage rests in our tongues. From this lesson, couples learned that they can use their tongues

to build up or tear down. Chris an couples should choose to build their marriages with a tongue of praise for God and their spouses. Listed below are events the Couples Ministry hosted throughout the year:

February 19 Let’s Get Physical Couples Exercise facilitated by Michael & Terri Holmes. During this event, couples learned how to take care of their physical body through exercise and proper diet.

April 16 Bowling Ou ngCouples assembled at Buff aloe Lanes Bowling Alley where they enjoyed several games and fellowship.

October 15Game NightAll enjoyed a great me as they played the Newlywed Tic-Tac-Toe Game.

The women and men were separated to create fi ve ques ons regarding their spouse. For every ques on answered correctly, an X or an O was placed on the board un l the fi rst couple got three in a row for c tac toe. Game winners Patrick & Monica Faulkner received two ckets to the UNC Tar Heels game.

The Couples Ministry prayers and expecta ons for 2011 is that God will use them to witness and evangelize to draw more couples into the ministry.

A Miracle Is Waiting For You!The Singles’ Ministry held its annual conference on July 23 at 7:00 p.m. and Dr. Kevin Williams from New Jerusalem Cathedral in Greensboro, NC was the guest speaker. The sermon taken from 2 Kings 4:14-17 which states, “And he said, what then is to be done for her? And Gehazi answered, Verily she hath no child, and her husband is old. And he said, Call her. And when he had called her, she stood in the door. And he said, about this season, according to the me of life, thou shalt embrace a son. And she said, Nay, my lord, thou man of God, do not lie unto thine handmaid. And the women conceived, and bare a son at that season that Elisha had said unto her, according to the me of life.”

Dr. Williams declared every child of God is a candidate for a miracle. He further declared, even before one is born a miracle is awai ng them and one needs to recognize and connect to the miracle. Williams encouraged singles to “Make It Happen” by taking the me to expose and become acquainted with their true selves prior to marriage in order to receive their miracle.

As the scripture reveals Gehazi discerned wisely and connected to her miracle. Dr. Williams emphasized the importance of Elisha knowing his call to ministry by no ng it was the prophe c declara on that came from the mouth of Elisha who connected Gehazi to her miracle.

Dr. Williams explained that singles must desire what God wants for them, even when they can’t see it. He challenged the singles to be “successfully single” by maintaining their integrity during singleness and believing whatever God has willed to happen, will happen.

MANNA FROM HEAVEN NEWS10

Wednesday, November 10 was not just another Word Empowerment night experience. Bishop Zamekio Jackson, from Saint Thomas Chris an College in Jacksonville, Florida delivered a message referencing the eighth chapter of Luke. Several verses, 41-43, 47-48, 50-51 were highlighted to illustrate the mighty works of Christ. From these verses Bishop Jackson drew illusions from two images: Jarius’ daughter and the woman with an issue of blood. Throughout the scriptures, the theme resounded of faith. Christ told the woman, “thou faith has made thee whole.” Later he told her to “fear not.”

As Bishop Jackson referred to the scriptures, he spoke of a certain man (one likely from the Sanhedrin Council) who approached Jesus reques ng He heal his daughter. This infl uen al man was desperate and had exhausted all of his resources. Jackson reminded congregants that material things don’t ma er when you’re desperate. Desperate mes require desperate measures. Like the man, he encouraged congregants to become transparent with God. Bishop Jackson shi ed his a en on to the other “desperate” situa on, referenced in the chosen verses. The woman with the issue of blood is cited. Although she was excluded from the general public, due to her condi on, she exercised her faith and pushed forward to touch Jesus’ garment; actually, it was His prayer shawl -- one of the tassels, where the anoin ng lies. She, too, was desperate and exemplifi ed a person of faith, knowing even though she couldn’t go to the synagogue, she would meet Him where He was.

Jackson reiterated the necessity to not fear and believe what the word of God says. He said doub ng is NOT an op on, nor is qui ng and believers should take heed. He was careful to point out Jarius’ daughter was healed, some would even say revived, but the woman washealed and made whole.

She was restored to health as though she had NOT been plagued with the issue at all.

Both illustra ons refl ected excep onal acts of faith and set the tone for others in order to boost their faith. As Jackson reached the close of his sermon, he reminded congregants to ap-ply their faith by calling out their dreams and desires. He said, “don’t think they are dead…call them to life, for you are a winner, an over-comer, a victor. Walk in the thing that God has promised.”

Immediately following the sermon, Bishop Jackson conferred honorary Doctorate of Divinity Degrees from Saint Thomas Chris an College upon Pastor and Elder Carmichael, referring to them as great spiritual sculptors. He praised them for what they already accomplished and for the greatness to come. The service adjourned with humble remarks from Pastor and Elder Carmichael, followed by a repast in the fellowship hall.

For a fi nal me members of Eleva on Bap st Church held its annual Resurrec on Sunday Celebra on on April 4 at Raleigh’s Meymandi Concert Hall. The celebra on service marked Christ’s ul mate sacrifi ce for the souls of Chris ans. For this special occasion Pastor Carmichael brought a message from Ma hew 28, en tled, “The Resurrec on That Shook The World.” Pastor Carmichael emphasized six points about the blood of Jesus. Those points were: It [Jesus’ blood] proves Jesus is the only bego on Son of God; [It] verifi es the truth of our future; [It] assures Chris ans future; [It’s] proof of Chris an’s judgment; [It’s] power for the living; and [It] assures Chris ans of their future inheritance. Carmichael further noted, the death of Christ serves as a miracle, message and manifesta on of God’s word.

Prior to the spoken word the Music and Fine Arts Ministry presented a musical centered on a young Sunday school student’s assignment on the meaning of Easter. Guided by her guardian angels the student was taken back to the me of Jesus and witnessed fi rsthand the works of the Chris an Savior.

Friday night kicked off a weekend of fellowship, praise and learning. Pastor T. L. Carmichael, Sr. ignited par cipa on by placing envelopes beneath random chairs throughout the room. Each man with an envelope gave his interpreta on of the word wri en inside. Words like pride, adultery, unforgiveness, bi erness, accountability, irresponsibility, and anger generated a thought-provoking dialogue. A er the discussion Pastor Carmichael delivered a word en tled, “The King In Me,” referencing Exodus 3:10-14 (KJV), emphasizing verse 11, And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt? He used Moses to explain how there are things inside of men that keep men from moving toward king-ness. If men saw themselves as God see’s them and get past the things that handicap men, men would become the kings God meant for them to be. Pastor Carmichael also referenced John 3:1-7 (KJV), emphasizing verse 3, Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Finally, he referenced John 17:17 (KJV), Sanc fy them through thy truth: thy word is truth. Kingdom men must sanc fy themselves and think, live and behave like kings. Sanc fi ca on must be based on faith and not feelings. Believers must separate themselves from anything that doesn’t glorify

and connect them with God. On Saturday, July 31 the men con nued to bond for a me of food, fellowship and games including Wii, Dominos and Checkers. On Sunday, August 1, at 7:30 a.m. service Minister Vincent Pe ford brought the message. The tle was “Who’s Going to Check You,” referencing Gala ans 5:22-23 (KJV), But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuff ering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. Pe ford indicated Chris ans must display long-suff ering and temperance to win souls. A believer should speak up when someone begins to speak anything nega ve into their lives. Believers can turn the nega ve around and speak posi ve. Minister Joshua Carmichael’s message at the 9:30 a.m. was “What’s On Your Mind.” His message was taken from Romans 12:2-3 (KJV), And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith. Carmichael asked congregants what is going through the minds of God’s people Monday through Saturday and does it refl ect their behavior on Sunday. He reminded them not to dwell on the failures of the past and seek God at all mes to work towards the successes of the present and future.

The men’s empowerment weekend ended at 11:30 a.m. service, led by Elder Isaiah Goodson. His message “Running the Race of Life Set Before Me With Endurance,” and referenced Hebrews 12:1-3 (KJV). Goodson stated that God’s people are running the race of life He has ordered for His children. The qualifi ca on for the race is one must be born again. Although believers go through challenging mes, they must endure with joy much like Christ did on the cross.

Friday, July 11 through Sunday, July 13 Eleva on Bap st

Church hosted the 2010 Women’s Word Empowerment

Conference. The theme “Endurance: The Faith Walk”

was taken from Hebrews 10:35-36 (KJV), Therefore do

not throw away your confi dence, which has a great

reward. For you have need of endurance, so that when

you have done the will of God you may receive what is

promised.

On Friday, Pastor Tammy Renea Glenn, from Life Center

Greenville in Welford, South Carolina delivered the

message “It’s Time to Catch Up with What Already

Is,” taken from Ecclesiastes 3:14-15 (KJV), I know that,

whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can

be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth

it, that men should fear before him. That which hath

been is now; and that which is to be hath already been;

and God requireth that which is past. The women

were advised to stop le ng the past and others

hold them in bondage.

Glenn stated the congrega on must trust God in this

season and trust what He decrees for their lives.

Believers should WALK IT OUTand press toward the

mark God ordained, referencing Job 23:10 (KJV),

But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath

tried me, I shall come forth as gold.

“Believers yearn for things to happen too strong and

too soon,” she said. Glenn told the women to learn to

relax and not fi ght what God is allowing in this season,

since this is the season for an open door. In 2010 one

must: push through some things; struggle through

situa ons; and move people out of the way in order

to get there.

On Saturday, Guest Speaker Melissa Wade, an

ordained Minister from Praise and Deliverance

Kingdom Community Interna onal in Bahama, NC

was the guest speaker. She is also known as the radio

personality, “Melissa Wade In The Water” on The Light

103.9 FM. Minister Wade’s message was “God Doesn’t

Call the Qualifi ed, He Qualifi es Those He Calls.”

She shared God’s calling is truly about the

rela onship He has with His people.

Believers have accomplished things they thought

they never would. She posed the following ques ons:

When was the last me you walked on water?

When was the last me God told you to do something

and you did it without any ques ons? When was the

last me you laid hands on someone and they were

healed?

How strong is your faith? The lack of faith is an invita on for the devil to come in and dismantle one’s faith walk, referencing Ephesians 6:12 (KJV), For we wrestle not against fl esh and blood, but against principali es, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Believers must get to a spiritual dimension, but in order to do that, a rela onship with God must be built through the Word of God and prayer.

During the Sunday 7:30 a.m. service Eleva on’s First Lady, Elder Rebecca Carmichael advised the congrega on to “Stay in Your Own Lane” referencing Exodus 15:1-6, 20 and 26 (KJV). She said if Chris ans are in someone else’s lane, their shoes may get stuck with bubble gum. Believers should stay within their God given assignment because He ordains special people.

To close out the morning worship, Prophetess Janet Floyd, from New Beginning Worship Center in Monroe, LA preached two spirit-fi lled messages. The fi rst message, at 9:30 AM, was en tled “Don’t Wait to Praise the Lord,” Genesis 29:31 and 35 (KJV), And when the LORD saw that Leah was hated, he opened her womb: but Rachel was barren. And she conceived again, and bares a son: and she said, Now will I praise the LORD: therefore she called his name Judah; and le bearing. Prophetess Floyd conveyed that true praise

comes out of bad situa ons; true praisers are people that can praise the Lord even when they do not see the circumstances going right. Believers should praise God in spite of what is seen. Floyd reminded the congrega on God does not consult His people; He deals them a hand and tells them to work with it.Floyd’s second message, at the 11:30 AM service, “This is the Last Time I’m Going to Cry About It,” referencing Exodus 14: 10-13 (KJV). She said some- mes it doesn’t ma er what the trouble is, the

problem is believers have been in it too long.

A needy person can be draining on someone else’s spiritual growth, which may cause dysfunc on in that person’s life. God wants one’s trouble to be transi onal. If one’s mind is not made up to go through diffi culty, the individual will be stuck in a permanent situa on; trouble is only meant to be temporary. When an individual stays in trouble too long it confuses friends and foes and makes a person think there is no way out. She further noted that between the promise and the performance, there is a process called in the mean me. It takes God to help the worshipper to shout in the mean me. Praise is the period at the end of the sentence of a person’s trouble. One’s des ny is linked to a spiritually sound mind, which is expedited by praising.

“If you live in this world and try to do half-way right, you are going to have problems,” stated Pastor Sheldon McCarter during the May 5, Wednesday Night Word Empowerment. McCarter’s sermon “The Problem of All Problems” emphasized the importance of holding on to one’s faith during trying mes.

Any obstacles faced can hinder others from sharing their tests. Such tests suck the life out of the one experiencing the trial and they feel like waving a white fl ag of surrender. However, like Job, believers must remain encouraged. Despite being ques oned by his wife about his rela onship with God, Job remained faithful to God. McCarter further noted, “If God calls your name, he knows your problem.” His concluding thoughts were: decide you’re not going to give up and remain steadfast;

don’t be sa sfi ed with adversity- [I will] make up my mind it’s got to change; deepen your resolve, there is a seed in every problem.

HIGHER CALLING

Bishop Neil Ellis from Mount Tabor Full Gospel Bap st in Nassau, Bahamas was the Wednesday night June 23 Word Empowerment guest speaker. Bishop Ellis stated he was on a kingdom minded assignment directed by the Holy Spirit. Ellis delivered words of prophecy and deliverance through his message en tled, “I Feel Something Coming.” He noted, “the name Eleva on says something about the des na on of the church body; and zion is calling believers to a higher calling.” Ellis informed

the congrega on of God’s plan for Eleva on is far greater than what His people have ever witnessed, referencing Joshua 17:17 (Amplifi ed Bible), And Joshua said to the house of Joseph, to Ephraim and to Manasseh, You are a great and numerous people and have great power; you shall not have only one lot.

Bishop Ellis added that God wants believers to stop opera ng in the fl esh and allow His glory to reside in them.

No longer will the glory of God visit, but it will dwell in the midst of His people.

Senior Pastor Terrell L. Murphy, of New Birth-Charlo e in Huntersville, NC, delivered a powerful word taken from Hebrews 10:35-39 on Wednesday, July 28. In his message, he described Paul as an apostolic father, one who in his wri ngs, emphasized the humanity of Christ. He also noted that Paul communicated Christ’s role as mediator, and therefore goes to God on our behalf, con nually. As stated in verse 35, Cast not away therefore your confi dence, which hath great recompense of reward, Pastor Murphy encouraged the audience not to lose confi dence because in doing so, the reward would also be lost. He affi rmed that confi dence births endurance and that

For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for? But if we hope for that we see not, then do we withpa ence wait for it. Bishop Owens explained that believersneed to learn how to WAIT: meaning W-weather the STORM;A-Anchor in JESUS, I-fi nd GodlyInspira on and T- allow God me to move.

Owens further noted that there are three things to “hang your hope on”:

1) God can’t lie (He keeps his promises); 2) Believers will not lose (don’t wait un l the ba le is over); and 3) This too shall pass (the storm didn’t come to stay). He le congregants with the thought your test will become your tes mony.

God shakes us to make us in order to promote His Kingdom agenda. “There are confi dence killers out there, he said, and we can’t aff ord to live that way. Tap into what God has already put into you for this season. Believe what the Word states in Jeremiah 1:5, Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart…

Pastor Murphy made the correla onwith two numbers: 12, meaning “founda on.” This is the 12th yearof ministry for Pastor Carmichael at Eleva on; and 10, meaning “cycles.” A new cycle (2010) begins with the Eleva on East Campus. He encouraged Eleva on disciples to move more toward rela onship and not just religion and to hold fast to their faith. He strongly encouraged everyone to start everyday with a declara on of victory, decreeing that THIS is the day that the Lord has made; make it personal and believe it with your whole heart. He closed by saying that NOW is the me for the righteous to stand up and be counted and not grow weary or become inconsistent in their faith.

Women’s Prayer Women’s Prayer SummitSummit

On Saturday, July 10, Eleva on’s Prayer Ministry hosted a Women’s Prayer Summit, facilitated by Angela Law. She encouraged women to be persistent in their prayer me and refuse to be defeated. She referenced Luke 18:1

(KJV), “And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint.” Satan wants women to give up because he knows there is victory on the other side. Be a woman of confi dence and ask God to give you an obedient heart. Women should be vessels with whom others can confi de and should appropriate God’s Word over any situa on. Gossip is not pleasing to God therefore women should ask Him to show them how to hold prayerful situa ons in confi dence. Law asked,“Are you praying or are you preying on someone?”

Women are o en too busy running with the world and being so caught up in it. Women should seek God daily (carve out me) and make a habit of talking to God. Develop a devo on me by doing the following:

• Spend me with God – you have to desire to do it• Prepara on Time – prepare yourself physically, mentally, and emo onally. Have your bible, notepad, pen, picture of the person you are going to pray for, and worship music accessible; leave plenty of quiet me)• Wait and Listen for God – let God love you, search you, and show you• Confession Time – Cleansing from sin (Psalm 51)• Be honest with God about your feelings and needs• Apply God’s word• Believe God for what you are praying for• Praise God

The Summit included tes monies of manifested prayers. Addi onally, others provided prayers for: leadership, thanksgiving, ins tu on of marriage, children, fi nancial situa ons, employment, healing and the na on as well as the Lord’s Prayer. The Summit concluded with the women personalizing a Prayer of Divine Protec on taken from Psalm 91, and the teen Sign of Praise team ministered through dance.

In 2009 Elder Rebecca Carmichael inspired by the Holy Spirit incorporated Girlfriends at EBC. Girlfriends promotes sisterly fellowship throughout the year. There were three opportuni es to con nue building godly and sisterly rela onships. The fi rst Girlfriends event took place on February 12, “Trea ng Yourself Inside and Out.” Guest speaker, Rona Drummer, of Elite Financial Services, provided points on fi nancial planning and gave scriptural references to handling money and dealing with prosperity/wealth. Drummer’s presenta on was well received given the slumping economy and one’s desire to live a fi nancially sound life, one that includes thing and blessings others as they are blessed.

The second event, held on May 14, “Surviving the Scavenger Hunt” provided the opportunity for about eight teams to seek and fi nd a host of items generated by clues related to healthy lifestyles, bible verses, and women’s health topics. The spirit of hearty compe on did abound and the winning team

received prizes. It was also a fun night accompanied with game sta ons that promoted sisterly bonding while challenging each one’s biblical knowledge.

The fi nal session, held on August 13, “Movie Nite” was an encore ac vity where the fellowship hall was transformed into a cinema type atmosphere. Approximately 100 women enjoyed movie type snacks while watching the movie, “Matchmaker Mary.” The family fun Chris an movie was centered on a pre-teen, Mary, who brought six lonely people together through the coordinated adop on of three puppies. Her use of “puppy love” led to restored rela onships, reminiscent of how Christ restores us unto Himself.

As a result of the feedback received from par cipants, the EBC Girlfriends events will con nue in 2011. Stay tuned for more details found on the church website.

Eleva on Youth Ministry, under the leadership of Minister Joshua Carmichael, hosted its annual Reaching A Genera on of Excellence (R.A.G.E.) Conference on Wednesday, April 21 through Sunday, April 25. Wednesday evening Gospel Ar st, Nikea Hooker, kicked off the conference by ministering through song. The powerful message of her songs stressed the importance of abstaining from premarital sex. Guest speaker Reverend Edwin Love from San Antonio, Texas followed with the message “You Need the Devil: the Devil is Your Mo vator” taken from Ma hew 4:1-8. He stated that it is the demonic spirit in people that pushes one’s bu ons.

The Thursday session began with a mime performance, followed by a spirit-fi lled concert from the EBC Community Choir. Reverend Love delivered the message, “Let It Go,” referencing Judges 7:1-4. He stated that Chris ans must forgive in order to get what God has in store for them. He further noted, believers need friends that encourage and they should “friendly–fi re” friends who are not posi ve infl uences in their lives.

The conference con nued into the weekend with a Choir Concert on Friday evening. Knightdale High School, North Carolina State University, St. Augus ne’s College, and North Carolina Central University were the par cipa ng choirs. Saturday was a day full of fun and games for

the youth with a 2-on-2 basketball tournament, dodge ball, and jump rope games. R.A.G.E. concluded on Sunday with guest speaker Minister Mark Moore from Faith Covenant Church in Atlanta, GA. At the 7:30 a.m. service, his message was en tled, “HOLLA Un l He Hears You!” referencing Mark 10:46-47 (KJV), And they came to Jericho: and as he went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people, blind Bar maeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by

the highway side begging. And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, and say, Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me. Explaining, don’t let what you lack limit you. At the 9:30 a.m. service, he preached “Drink From Your Cup” taken from Luke 22:42 (KJV), Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done. He stated if you are going to get to the place God des ned for you, you have to drink from the cup God set before you. At the 11:30 a.m. service, his message was “Get Your Grip Back” referencing Luke 6:6-10.

Only Sunday, October 10 Eleva on Bap st Church celebrated its 95th Church Anniversary. Guest Speaker Jeff Baker spoke to the congrega on from Joshua6:1-20. Baker, reminded Eleva on of the signifi cant changes in the world since its founding in the early 20th century. Changes including the signifi cant strides African Americans have achieved via the Civil Rights movement and technological changes in aeronau cs like the Wright Brother’s fi rst fl ight in the North Carolina Costal town of Ki y Hawk. These changes Baker concluded would bemarveled at by the founders

of Eleva on. Change is the one constant throughout the common bonds of believers in God. As in the Old Testament when Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt-trus ng in God and working in their faith are the catalysts for change. Despite the grumblings of those in the genera on brought out of Egypt by Moses those of the second genera on, the Joshua genera on, were the ones who followed their leader and saw the change God promised Moses and the previous genera on. The genera on led by Joshua crossed over Jordan unafraid of what might lieahead. The unknown of the Canaanite “giants” in the walled city of Jericho did notcause fear in them. Armed with the Ark of the Covenantthe believers walked and the city one me for six days and on the seventh day they walked seven mes

around the city. As instructedby God they made noise but on the seventh day when the trumpets sounded they yelled and the walls of the city of giants fell down leaving the city to be conquered.Baker further noted, as believers in God certain things must be bounded for it hinders full spiritual growth. Things like, denomina onal separa on, pride and spiritual resistance. He urged that people from diff erent religious and faith backgrounds must spend more me on the things they agree

on and less on those things they disagree on. For there is much work to be done for the Kingdom of God.

Walk of Hope 2010Men and women gathered on Saturday, October 23, to par cipate with Eleva on’s fi rst-ever, Walk of Hope 2010. The 3K walk, led by Pastor and Elder Carmichael, commemorates October as Breast Cancer and Domes c Violence Awareness Month. Neither of these issues discriminates, as families are aff ected regardless of income, age, or educa on. Domes c violence should not happen to anyone, but it does! Most vic ms are female and children are also aff ected by its exposure. The violence comes in many forms (i. e, physical, mental, emo onal and fi nancial abuse as well as sexual assault and isola on) and can happen on occasion or rou nely. Although predominately aff ected by women, men are also aff ected by breast cancer.

About 207,090 new cases of invasive breast cancer will occur among women in the US this year and an es mated 39,840 women will die from it; about 1,970 men will be diagnosed and 390 men will die. It is es mated in 2010 that North Carolina will have 8,213 new cases of breast cancer and 1,360 deaths and Wake County will have 712 new cases of breast cancer and 109 deaths.

The event was held on the Eleva on East campus where Jackie Thomas led the group in some stretching exercises, just prior to the walk. Several volunteers and ministries were

available to assist par cipants and an educa onal display with breast health/cancer and domes c violence materials as well as incen ves was made available to event par cipants.

All proceeds generated from the registra on fees were donated to the Susan G. Komen, NC Triangle Affi liate. Pastor T. L. Carmichael, Sr.presented a symbolic check to Pam Blondin, Execu ve Director. Par cipants donated new and gently used clothing, shoes and purses and Elder Rebecca Carmichael presented the generous clothing dona ons to Laura Hilton, Interact’s Community Educa on and Training Director. Eleva on Bap st Church praised out 2010 and worshipped in 2011 during their New Year’s Eve service. The congrega on and guests joined the Praise Team and Sign of Praise Ministry in welcoming in the Holy Spirit.Dr. T.L. Carmichael, Sr., concluded the year by delivering a powerful message en tled “Walking Under an Open Heaven in 2011” taken from Mark 2:4 (KJV) “And when they could not come nigh unto him for the press, they uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed wherein the sick of the palsy lay” and Malachi 3:10-12 (KJV) “Bring ye all the thes into the storehouse, that

there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the me in the fi eld, saith the LORD

of hosts. And all na ons shall call you blessed: for ye shall be a delightsome land, saith the LORD of hosts.” Pastor Carmichael informed congregants of the following four things to grasp in their spirit as 2010 concluded:

Purpose – represents a God fulfi lled plan; Passion – a strong emo onal feeling that compels you to get something done; Promise – a solemn pledge to perform a specifi c thing; and Promo on.

Purpose Believers have been mis-stepping if they are not fl owing in the promises of God. Chris ans should expect to cul vate new rela onships in 2011. There are old rela onships that have not been working, because of hanging out with the wrong people. Your promo on will come when you serve God with the right people in the right place. As Chris ans there are some people we need to hook up with that will bless us: hang around those that will encourage you in 2011. Those people that are holding you back cut them loose. Free yourself of nega ve people.

PassionComplete those things that were le undone. It’s important to cul vate faith partners, those people that talk, think and believe like you do. If you want friends that will not quit, you have to set the example and not give up.

PromiseIt is the faith of a Chris an that moves God. If believers want to accomplish something they have to look towards heaven. John 11:41 (KJV) “Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus li ed up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me.” No ma er what the challenges are in your life, God has promised to help His children. Rest confi dently in the promises of God.

Promo onOnce a believer gets the Purpose, the Passion, and the Promise down in their spirit, the Promo on will come.

When the clock struck midnight on January 1, 2010, Eleva on Bap st Church began its annual 21-day Daniel Fast, which restricted the consump on of meat, and ar fi cial /processed foods. Fas ng is an essen al part of a Chris an’s rela onship with God; denying the fl esh of foods, drinks and worldly desires. As a result, Chris ans open up to receive spiritual blessings God has for them. Through prayer and devo on, a believer’s connec on to God is apparent and constant, but by fas ng, coupled with prayer and scripture, the connec on takes on an unselfi sh and sacrifi cial dynamic. Too o en during a fast the focus is on the emp ness that was once fl eshly cravings. Instead, believers must focus on humbling themselves and fi lling the void with God and His will in their lives.

The onus of a Daniel Fast is on consuming natural foods referenced in Daniel 1: 8-14. This passage explains how Daniel chose not to defi le himself with the king’s meat and wine and instead requested

to eat vegetables and water for ten days. At the conclusion of the ten days Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah compared themselves to the king’s children and found themselves fairer and fa er than all the children, which did eat the por on of the king’s meat. Another reference to spiritual cleansing is found in Daniel 10: 2 and 3, which reads, In those days, I, Daniel was mourning three full weeks; I ate no pleasant bread, neither came fl esh nor wine in my mouth, neither did I anoint myself at all, ll three whole weeks were fulfi lled.

For one who was not accustomed to restric ve dietary guidelines it was advised that they consult their physicians before par cipa ng.
