Nashdale Awards At Nashdale we recognise students for their hard work and achievements. Students are awarded credit awards at each assembly. We have revamped our system with some new awards. Students can save their credit awards and when they have saved 4 credits they can be awarded a MERIT award. When students earn 4 MERIT awards they are then awarded a BRONZE STAR. The next time they earn 4 MERITS they earn a SILVER STAR award and then save another 4 MERITS to achieve the GOLD star level. 4 credits = 1 merit 4 merits = 1 bronze star 4 merits = 1 silver star 4 merits = 1 gold star Here are our two first bronze star recipients – Gianrico and John . They are sure to be joined by many more students soon! Easter Hat parade Our annual Easter hat parade will be held tomorrow Friday morning 11th April at 9.20am. K-Y6 hats are to be made at home and brought to school on the day. Any kind of crazy hat/headwear (as long as appropriate for primary school) can be worn. Transition hats will be made at school. Our Easter raffle will be drawn during the parade and prizes awarded. If it is raining the parade will be in the K/1 classroom.
School Tie Thank you to all who have responded to the school tie survey. There were 86% of families who voted and 87% of those chose the tartan tie. The tartan tie has been ordered and will be available at Kingfishers Clothing very soon. The cost will be $19.25 per tie and your child will only need one during their time at Nashdale. The ties are optional to wear during terms two and three (winter uniform) but we would like all students to wear them on special occasions representing our school for events such as school photos, Anzac Day and eisteddfods. I will text families as soon as the ties are available as it would be lovely to have their first outing on the Anzac Day march. Rugby 7’s A number of students from Nashdale represented OSSA in the recent Rugby 7’s competition – Alex, Tom, Georgia & Gus , Jono, John, Angus, Carter, Lochie. The teams performed extremely with Under 12s coming 2nd in their pool and the Under 10s were runners up to Orange Public School. Thanks to the super Dads who coached on the day! Future directions for Nashdale Thank you so much to all the families who have contributed to our discussion around the pros and cons of a four or five class structure at Nashdale into the future. Just a reminder to add your views by tomorrow. I will collate these responses during the holiday break and then send home everyone’s thoughts. This will be accompanied by a “Likert scale”. I will ask everyone to indicate where their family sits on the issue. All of this data will then be considered by myself and the P&C executive to make a plan for our school’s future. Parking/Road safety Representatives from the Roads and Maritime Services, Department of Education and Communities, Orange Buslines and Cabonne Council met with us last week to observe the traffic issues around parking and student safety entering and exiting the school.
There were a number of ideas that have been used successfully in other areas that could work for us. These ideas include;
Raising the front gates and installing a child proof latch (similar in pool/child care fencing) to stop students/toddlers running into the car park,
Installing “chicanes” to further slow down and funnel children after leaving the gates. This would also stop people from parking in front of the school gates
Possibility of increasing number of car parking spaces on the other side of the road.
Amending bus zone times on opposite side of the road to reflect the new bus times
All ideas are being passed onto the various departments and we will keep you informed as to any decisions. SRC - Buy a Bale The SRC would like to thank everyone for supporting our Dress Like a Farmer day. We raised $151 to help farmers dealing with drought. Please visit: www.buyabale.com.au for more details about the Buy A Bale organisation.
ANZAC Day March Our school will be joining the Anzac Day march. If you are in town on that day we would appreciate students to join us in marching to the cenotaph in Robertson Park to show our respect for those who have served our country. We will meet at 10am opposite Hawkes/Lolli Redinis in Sale Street (as the schools march in alphabetical order). Could students please wear full winter uniform (jumpers and hopefully ties!). We will assemble outside the Orange Day Surgery in McNamara Lane at the conclusion of the march so that you can find your child with ease. The captains and I will join the service to lay our school wreath.
Chutney! Students from Years 2/3 were fortunate to learn how to make chutney on Monday afternoon. Mrs Hansen and Mrs Petersen helped children through all stages of the process. It looks like they learned a lot and had fun on the way. Yummy!
