Prep 2019 Visit

Next Tuesday 13th November, almost 100 of next year’s Preps will spend an hour with us experiencing what it is like to be a school student. On Thursday 22rd November, our new Preps will be back for another orientation session, and will return again on Tuesday 4th December, this time in their 2019 class groups with their 2019 teachers.

In the Swim?

We will commence our preparations for The District Swimming Carnival to be held on Wednesday 27th February at the Prahran Pool, with swimming trials at MSAC in the next fortnight. Permission forms will be sent home next week for the sessions which will again take place before school. Once our trial squad has been selected, the students will train regularly under supervision at MSAC, with the actual competitors being selected in early February.

Is Your Child Here Next Year?

To assist staff in developing our 2019 class structure, we urgently need the names of any students from Years Prep - 5 who will NOT be returning to our school next year. If your child is

leaving us in December, please ring Mary at your earliest convenience to advise her of your 2019 plans.

Arts Day (formerly Music Day)

We will now be celebrating Arts Day on November 28. Now is a great time to start reminding your students to think about their costumes and saving a gold coin donation for it. Each year we do a whole school song that is sung by all students as part of our Arts Day celebrations. This year’s song is called One Song and can be found on YouTube at https://www.google.com.au/search?q=music+count+us+in+2018+song&rlz=1C5CHFA_enAU794AU794&oq=music+count+us+in+2018+song&aqs=chrome..69i57.10967j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 You are welcome to learn and practise it at home.

Hanging Out the Washing!

I wonder which school this household’s children attend?

School Assemblies

During Term 4, assemblies will be held on Friday afternoons in front of the flagpole (weather permitting) the Hall at 2.45pm on a cyclical basis: Nov 9 Senior School (3E presenting) Nov 16 Junior School (2E presenting) Nov 23 Whole School Nov 30 Senior School (4E presenting) Dec 7 Junior School (Prep DE presenting) Dec 14 Whole School assembly There will be a whole school assembly at 1pm on Friday December 21.

Parents are invited to attend these assemblies. In line with our school values, we ask that everyone attending assembly models respect by not chatting, particularly through announcements or during the singing of the National Anthem.

Weekly Staff Profiles

This week, we profile two more of our Integration Aides, Mirella Basile and Hilary Mulcahy.

Mirella worked at the “old” Albert Park Secondary College and, after it closed, spent time working as a tutor. She had wanted to work at Port Melbourne Primary School and, when the opportunity arose ten years ago, she was delighted. Mirella enjoys working at PMPS with the students. When not at work she likes to play the guitar, do yoga and go to the gym. Hilary was born and raised in England. As a young adult she travelled to Australia where she met and married her husband. Together they have four children, two boys and two girls. The youngest is currently completing VCE exams, the eldest has just completed a Master of Fine Arts and the middle two are studying at Melbourne University. Hilary began her working life as an advertising executive until staying at home to raise the children. She then retrained as a Youth Worker and spent 8 years working with homeless young people and later with teenagers in Out of Home Care. Hilary joined Port Melbourne Primary School at the start of this year. In her spare time Hilary enjoys spending time with her close knit family - travelling, attending theatre and arts events and catching up with friends.
