parade combining some elements of a circus, masks and public street party.

• It is the second biggest carnival in England. • It usually takes part on the May Bank Holiday.• It is attended by over 150,000 people each
year.

• Luton Carnival began in 1976. • It began as a Victorian fair with a parade. • It was held to celebrate the 100th
anniversary of Luton becoming a Borough. • Now the focus is on the carnival parade.
Love Luton Festival 2012• This year the carnival has moved to July.• It will be part of a festival to celebrate the
Olympic torch coming to Luton.• The festival will last for three days.• There will be music concerts.
