Educate Yourself & Your Family

• Know your surroundings• Dangerous weather conditions• Evacuation routes• Nearby hazards

• Have a place to go• Friends or family members house out of

the danger area• Learn your disaster plan

• If there is a disaster plan at your business or community, know how to use it

Create An Emergency Communications Plan

• Know area of shelter• Inside and outside of home

• Identify evacuation routes• How will you get there

• Identify a meeting place• A place to meet with your family or friends

• Include information on keeping your pets safe

• Know the plan & Communicate It

Emergency Supply Kits

• You should have on hand:• 3-day Supply of Water

• More if during a hot summer month or for pets• Food (non-perishable) for 3 days• Non electric cooking tools (plastic utensils, hand

can opener, etc.)• Paper Towels, Toilet Paper and Soap• Battery Powered Radio & Flashlight

• Extra Batteries• Blankets and Pillows• First Aid Kit• Pet Care Items• Extra Set of Keys

AND REFRESH THEM REGULARLY!

Special Needs

• Discuss Plan with home health aides• Teach others how to use equipment

• Label your equipment• Tell people where you keep your

supplies• Create a support network of people to

help you• Wear medical alert tags• Keep extra medications on hand

Medical Information Cards

• Have a list of your medications• Include your allergies

• Have a list of your medical problems• Ask your primary doctor for a list• Include a list of your doctors

• Keep important papers with you• Keep your medical insurance card and any

other important papers with you (i.e. Living Will)

• Remain Calm & Patient• Listen for instructions or updates from

officials• Code Red System

• Use 911 only for emergency purposes• DO NOT USE FOR GENERAL INFORMATION

information
