Richard D. Hurt, M.D. Emeritus Professor of Medicine, College of Medicine. Emeritus Director, Nicotine Dependence Center. Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota. As an Emeritus Director of the Nicotine Dependence Center which he helped to found in 1988. Dr. Hurt is the Founder and Chair of Global Bridges: Healthcare Alliance for Tobacco Dependence Treatment. He continues to serve on the Global Bridges Executive team which directs an international initiative to train healthcare professionals on the treatment of tobacco dependence and advocating for effective tobacco policy. Dr. Hurt is author or coauthor of over 200 scientific publications. A native of Murray, Kentucky and graduate of Murray State University, Dr. Hurt received his M.D. from the University of Louisville (Alumnus Alpha Omega Alpha Award 2008) and did his internal medicine fellowship at Mayo Clinic. He joined the faculty of Mayo Clinic in the Division of Community Internal Medicine in 1976. Rasha K Bader, MBA, PMP, Global Tobacco Control Certificate Heads tobacco control at King Hussein Cancer Center (KHCC), and is the operations manager for Global Bridges in the Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMR).With a background in engineering and business, Rasha earned the Global Tobacco Control Certificate from Johns Hopkins University. Playing a leading role in designing, developing, and managing KHCC’s TDT training program which received full accreditation from the Council for Tobacco Treatment Training Programs (CTTTP). She is a technical expert and the project manager on the Expand Availability of TDT Service in the EMR. She has played the leading role in mapping the status quo and developing Jordan’s Tobacco Control Roadmap. Being a passionate advocate of protection from exposure to tobacco smoke she has been leading KHCC’s Smoke-free Zone Certification Program. Currently, she is serving on the Curriculum Review Board for the Global Certification Program which is being developed by the Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco (SRNT).

Taylor Hays, MD Professor of Medicine in the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine. He is the Director of the Mayo Clinic Nicotine Dependence Center, and past Chair of the Division of General Internal Medicine (1997-2009).Dr. Hays holds board certification in Internal Medicine and Addiction Medicine, is actively engaged in the practice of general internal medicine and provides clinical care for patients with tobacco dependence. His clinical research is focused on developing and testing pharmacologic and behavioral treatments for tobacco dependence. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles, abstracts and book chapters on the treatment of tobacco use and dependence.

Dr. Hays received his M.D. from Vanderbilt University in 1980, completed Internal Medicine residency at Vanderbilt in 1983 and was Chief Medical Resident 1983-84. He has been a staff and faculty member at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN since 1991.

Feras Hawari, MD is the director of the Cancer Control Office at King Hussein Cancer Center (KHCC), and the director of the Tobacco Treatment Specialist Training program (TTS). Dr. Hawari plays a key role in advancing tobacco control as a national priority in Jordan. He received the Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids’ 2016 Judy Wilkenfeld Award for International Tobacco Control Excellence. He is active in research on a variety of topics related to tobacco control. Dr. Hawari established and leads the inpatient and outpatient tobacco dependence treatment (TDT) programs at KHCC and is a lead trainer on TDT in the EMR which received full accreditation from the Council for Tobacco Treatment Training Programs (CTTTP). Dr. Hawari, is the chief of the Pulmonary and Critical Care Service and director of the Respiratory Unit at KHCC. Dr. Hawari is board certified in internal medicine, clinical pharmacology, pulmonary diseases and critical care medicine and is a fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians. Prior to joining KHCC, Dr. Hawari worked with the Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Branch at the U.S. National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute at the National Institutes of Health.

Maher Karam-Hage, MDProfessor of Psychiatry at the Departments of Behavioral Science and of Psychiatry at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, in Houston Texas, USA and Medical Director of the Tobacco Treatment Program at MD Anderson Since 2006. Lead faculty and course director of the MD Anderson Certification as Tobacco Treatment Specialist (CTTS). Accredited July 2017 and Secretary and Treasurer of Texas chapter of the Society of Addiction Medicine (TSAM) 2011-2015, and currently president of TSAM since 2015.

Dr. Karam-Hage Graduated from medical school in 1993 at Universidad Francisco Marroquin Guatemala, Central America. Did his general psychiatry training, then addiction psychiatry sub-specialty and subsequently a Neuro-psychopharmacology research fellowship at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, Michigan, US. Served as medical director of the University of Michigan Addiction Treatment Services (UMATS).

Fatimah M S EL-Awa, PhDRegional Advisor Tobacco Free Initiative, WHO EMRO and supports the 22 Member States of EMRO in applying, adopting and developing tobacco control policies, based on the WHO FCTC, MPOWER and NCD best buys, through a variety of activities including training, capacity building, developing of technical and awareness raising, developing of regional and country profiles.Dr. EL-Awa, has a legal back ground that qualifies her to provide the needed legal technical support for countries in advancing their tobacco control legislations, policies and strategies. And she, coordinates between the region and other international partners on tobacco control activities. Dr. El Awa, is the author and co-author for a number of publications and peer-reviewed articles in support of tobacco control in the region and she has participated as a speaker, organizer, and training in many regional and international meetings and conferences.

Mounira Masmoudi, MDNational Coordinator of mHealth/mCessation project of the Ministry of Health-Tunisia, and vice president of the Tunisian Association Sport for All and tobacco control, vice president of the Tunisian League of diabetes, Executive Board Member of the International Association for cooperation and Sustainable Development and executive Board and a member of Tunisian Society of Tobacco and Addictive Behaviors. Dr. Masmoudi is a specialist in public health, having worked for over twenty years as head of NCD department and as national focal point for tobacco control at the Ministry of Health of Tunisia and therefore with much experience in the program management and the relationship with different national and international partners.

Asma Hatoqai, BS.Tobacco control specialist working with the Cancer Control Office team at King Hussein Cancer Center to reduce the tobacco burden in Jordan. Beside her work in raising awareness against tobacco use and in tobacco control advocacy, Asma mainly focuses on projects and training programs that build capacity of healthcare providers to offer help to smokers. She co-designed and co-delivered Tobacco Dependence Treatment (TDT) training programs for healthcare providers and currently working on and continuously updating the curricula. She played an important role in executing the Expand Availability of TDT in the EMR project, through remotely managing faculty training. In addition, she developed an evidence-based dissemination plan for the national TDT guidelines and currently leading the execution of the plan. Asma holds a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from Jordan University of Science and Technology, and is currently enrolled in the Global Tobacco Control Certificate Program at Johns Hopkins University.

Yolonda C. Richardson, MSExecutive Vice President of Global Programs for the Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids, where she oversees the Campaign’s international program focused on reducing global tobacco consumption in middle and low income countries.Ms. Richardson served as the President and Founder of Richardson Consulting, a managing consulting firm specialized in providing senior level strategic support and expertise to nonprofit organizations, foundations, corporate philanthropies, and global development agencies.

Ms. Richardson holds a Masters Degree in Public Health from Columbia University and a Juris Doctorate from Yale University School of Law. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree, summa cum laude, from Dillard University in New Orleans.

Dr. Zakiya Al-Busaidi. MD. MRCGP. PhD(psych)Is a senior consultant –assistant HOD-department of family medicine and public health. Sultan Qaboos university hospital- Sultanate of Oman. Specialized in family medicine. Dr. Busaidi, is passionate about a holistic concept to care using a bio-psycho-social approach. Her current published research projects are in the area of depression, healthy lifestyle, tobacco use and women’s mental health.

Dr. Al-Busaidi, received her MD from sultan Qaboos University followed by a residency program in family medicine and receiving the MRCGP (int). and received her PhD in psychosomatic medicine (mental health) from the university of Nottingham, UK followed by training and experience in cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing and tobacco dependence treatment.

Mahmoud Elhabiby. MDAs Associate Professor of Psychiatry, Ain Shams University and Founder and Director of the Tobacco Dependence Treatment Unit in Ain shams University. He is also, a Consultant in the Tobacco Free Initiative Sector (TFI) WHO (World Health Organization), EMRO (East Mediterranean Regional Office) representative.Dr. Elhabiby, is a Consultant and Addiction Treatment Program Designer of Addiction Unit in Ain Shams University and Member of WPA (World Psychiatric Association) Section of Pharmacopsychiatry and Technical Consultant in the Addiction Treatment Administration in the General Secretary of Mental Health, Ministry of Health, Egypt. And Consultant in Global Bridges International Organization for Tobacco Dependence Treatment. Dr. Elhabiby, received his Medical Doctorate in Psychiatry (M.D.) in 2009 by Institute of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt.

Faris Mili, MD Tobacco expert at the Tunisian ministry of Health, a member of the steering committee of m cessation project (WHO-ITU-Tunisian Ministry of Health) and a member of the Tunisian National Committee for Tobacco Control and he is executive board member of the Tunisian Society of Respiratory Diseases and Allergology (STMRA) since 2012. Dr. Mili graduated from medical school in 1985 and he is a tobacco treatment specialist (CTTS, Mayo Clinic, Roshester Minnesota USA).

Nour Obeidat, PHDPharmacist with a PhD in Health Outcomes Research, a certified Tobacco Treatment Specialist and a Tobacco Dependence Treatment trainer at King Hussein Cancer Center (KHCC) focusing specifically on the pharmacotherapeutic management of smoking cessation, the clinical aspects of tobacco dependence treatment, and establishing TDT services in clinical practice. She is also, an experienced Cancer Control Researcher whose research work aims to inform the development of evidence-based healthcare interventions that can improve cancer and tobacco control in Jordan and the Region. Local as well as regional qualitative and quantitative research studies she has led or been involved in survey research studies in the area of anti-tobacco pictorial warnings; clinical studies regarding the cardiopulmonary, respiratory, and quality of life effects of waterpipe smoking; studies to evaluate smoking cessation therapy practice patterns and outcomes in cancer patients; and survey research studies to gauge knowledge, perceptions and practices of healthcare professionals as they pertain to important educational practices such as smoking cessation counseling and counseling on cancer prevention and early detection.

Sukaina Al Zyoud, PHDAssociated Professor – Dean [Deanship of Academic Development and International Outreach. Dr. Al Zyoud gained a scientific understanding of the role of waterpipe smoking in both young adult and adolescent populations. Her expertise translated into assessing the problem of tobacco use and designing and implementing interventions to prevent and reduce tobacco use in vulnerable populations. Currently, Dr. Alzoud is Principal Investigator [PI] on several studies that explore knowledge, perceptions, and behaviors surrounding the use of waterpipe among adolescents and adults and have published frequently on the subjects of waterpipe use; dual tobacco use (i.e. use of both cigarettes and waterpipe); and the relationship between tobacco and religion, the perception of health, cannabis use, and other risky behaviors and a study related to the effectiveness of a waterpipe smoking cessation intervention for Jordanian school students. Other recent projects include assessing nicotine dependence among adult smokers, as well as assessing nicotine dependence among adolescents who smoke waterpipe using a standardized scale. Dr. Alzyoud, received, the Hashemite University Deanship of Research funding to conduct a prevalence study of waterpipe use among Jordanian school students.

Omar Awadh Al-Rawas MBChB, FRCP (Glasg.), PhDDean of College of Medicine & Health Sciences (COMHS), Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), and the Chairman of the SQU Hospital (SQUH) Board. He is Professor of Medicine and Senior Consultant Pulmonologist at the Department of Medicine of COMHS & SQUH. He is also a member of Council of Trustees and the Executive Council of Oman Medical Specialty Board, and Chairman of the national Committee for improving Respiratory Service in Oman. He received his MBChB, postgraduate training in Respiratory Medicine and PhD from University of Glasgow, UK. Among the positions held in the past are President of Oman Medical Association; Chairman of OMSB Internal Medicine Scientific Committee; Chairman of the Health Sector Open Grant Committee of the Oman Research Council. His research interest is in lung function in health and disease, epidemiology of respiratory conditions in Oman, especially Asthma; being the Country Coordinator in the International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Children (ISAAC) in addition to respiratory health care delivery in Oman. He contributed to more than 80 publications in peer-reviewed journals in these areas, in addition to many conference presentations and published abstracts.

Dr. Malek Ayed Habashneh, MDIs a Family Medicine professional (Senior), acting as Director of Health Awareness and Communication Directorate at Ministry of Health (MOH) / Jordan. Participated as an expert in the implementation of workshops to train doctors in the Eastern Mediterranean region on the Tobacco dependence treatment program (TDT), in cooperation with the King Hussein Cancer Center and Global Bridge. In 1989 Dr. Habashneh started his specialty in Family Medicine Residency at Ministry of Health Hospitals and Military Hospitals (Royal Medical Services). And after that he was appointed in several positions at MOH from Director of School Health to Director of Specialized Centers (which include center for drug and alcohol addiction rehabilitation, center for sport rehabilitation and center for blood banking) to technical Assistant Director of General Health insurance.
